While i play DR there is a black flashing bar near the bottom i know it is a graphical problem its a brand new computer. so i dont see what the problem could be.

If I had to guess, I'd say it was your graphics drivers. If you're playing on a brand new OEM computer, it's very likely that you don't have the most recent or the best drivers.

1) What OS are you running? XP or Vista?

2) What graphics card or chipset do you have?

Look under the heading "display adapters" .

I'm going to hazard a guess and say you might be running an integrated graphics card. I got DR to run on a Dell with an Intel GMA integrated graphics card (in XP natch), but it didn't run all that well and only at the lowest graphics settings.

What brand and model computer is this new machine?

So you have a laptop with integrated graphics... they are notoriously difficult to game on, since they're often just not up for it.

Make sure you have the latest chipset and video drivers, and scale back the graphics options to the bare minimum.

What Khazandra said. "Brand new" <> "good". You have a machine that's designed for school/office work, not games.

Try updating your drivers. Also, you could try this: linky...

Upgraded...? In a laptop...? I'm a little confused now.

So how is it running? Did the black thing go away or is it still flashing you?

He means updated.

Oh, and you should get the latest DirectX-drivers too manually. It's weird that Microsoft don't include those in their automatic updates.

Do you have object dock/alien dock/stardock installed on your system? If so, when the icons change (CPU usage, RAM usage, etc) it causes black voids where the icon sits on the bar. there are three easy fixes if this is the source of your problem.

1. Close the dock before you start DR.
2. Uninstall your dock software.
3. Leave a maximized window open while you play DR to "block" the icons.

Hope this solves your problem.
