Request for data - Melee Damage
#28015 - 07/08/07 12:48 PM

This is a polite request for data from anyone who wishes to help and is the second such request posted in the general discussion forum.

I am currently trying to calculate the damage equation for melee attacks. I have calculated other equations and I wish to try and sort out this one.

So anyone with a couple of spare minutes in game who wishes to help me solve this can you post in this thread with the following information:

I need your characters level
your total strength
the melee damage bonus and the percentage melee damage bonus if any on any equipment you have
The particular damage type bonus and the percentage damage bonus if any on any equipment you have this refers to bonus to crushing or piercing attacks please only post the one relevant to the weapon damage type you currently have equiped
The particular element damage on weapon attack bonus and the percentage element damage on weapon attack bonus if any on any equipment you have
the min and max damage listed in the weapon description
the min and max damage listed in the character sheet
To make it simple you can just copy the below and fill in the relevant information.

Character level:
Total Strength:
Melee Damage Bonus:
Percentage Melee Damage Bonus:
Damage type bonus:
Percentage Damage Type Bonus:
Element Damage on weapon attack bonus:
Percentage Element Damage on weapon attack Bonus:
Weapon Min Damage:
Weapon Max Damage:
Attack Speed from character sheet:
Total Min Damage from Character Sheet:
Total Max Damage from Character Sheet:

Thanks in advance. If you wish to help with the skills data the post can be found here.
If you wish to help with the ranged data the post can be found here.

Character level: 41
Total Strength: 224 (90base +134magic)
Melee Damage Bonus: 80
Percentage Melee Damage Bonus: 6% Total (+3%, +3%)
Damage type bonus: Slashing: +44, Crushing +23 **
Percentage Damage Type Bonus: Slashing +6% total (+3%, +3%)
Element Damage on weapon attack bonus: +57 Divine
Percentage Element Damage on weapon attack Bonus: +3% Divine ***
Weapon Min Damage: 227
Weapon Max Damage: 783
Attack Speed from character sheet: 0.88
Total Min Damage from Character Sheet: 620
Total Max Damage from Character Sheet: 2140

Notes:
** My weapon is slashing type damage, but I included this just in case.

***I put +3% divine damage assuming that when it says "+ 3% to all divine damage" is what you meant by "percentage element damage on weapon attack bonus" since I have divine bonuses to the weapon attack.

Also my attack speed is .88 with a +2% melee attack speed, 0.90 otherwise.

I'm not sure if you're still working on this or not, but thought I'd post this here anyway. I spent the last 30 minutes playing around with a low level fighter to see if I could work out the effect of certain attributes on displayed damage, and so far I've come up with the following:

+x slashing/crushing/piercing damage(x = value, not percentage) is shown on displayed damage.
The effect of strength seems to vary depending on the type of weapon used. I tested this out with 3 different weapons, more will come as soon as I find suitable weapons. If you want to have a look at the data gathered, have a look at this spreadsheet.

I have yet to test out the influence of weapon types at higher levels, but I'm fairly sure this trend will continue. Also still on my list of testing is finding out if +% damage is shown on displayed damage. Anyway, for the data in this thread to be useful, I'd suggest people post their weapon type aswell.

Cheers,
Found / Kashya
