Being a newbie here and playing the game casually currently I have run into this same issue. I think a moveable "bind point" would be a good idea. Let's say you are working in a dungeon like the ones mentioned and you know you have to come back to level 2 often to turn in quests. you set your bind point at level 2. So you have to clear level 2 again no big deal. You clear it and do your thing and decide to move on down to level 5 to complete those quests you reset your bind point at level 5 which takes the level 2 bind point away so if you do need to go back you have to fight from 1 through 2 again but you can return to 5 until you set your bind point elsewhere. The bind point would not go away with a disconnect or with logging off.

sound about right?

In essence this BIND POINT is what portal in effect create. when you enter a portal, you are (I will use the term Keyed) to that level. That is to say, if you log off, and come back later you can use the obelisk to go back to that level of the instance.

An example... I want to kill Agrock 17 times. So, I find Agrock's field, walk through the portal from Agrock 7, and kill him. Reset instance. Now I can use the Obelisk to go back DIRECTLY(no need to enter levels 1-7) to Agrock's field. You can ALWAYS come abck to the game and enter the LAST portal you used. NOT SCROLL POINT. Only portals. So if you use GOTO and fail to enter a portal(again, SCROLL is not a portal)... and the instance is reset... you will not have instant access to that level.

as for Seiryu, when you doa s earch the default time is only posts in the last week, so you need to be sure you change it to a year to get all pertinent threads

ok swordgleam, no need to get anxsty. you put "us" into a category of only farming bosses. maybe that "us" is people with nothing left to do but farm bosses because there are no quests left, but that's besides the point.

the way i see it is you want everything to be nice and easy in this game. yes it can be a pain to pick up a quest item, and then forget about it and then realise you have to go to someone in algernon level 5 for instance. but you and i both know don't need to reclear every level to get there. put on a speed buff and run right through.

however, i will say that this does cause one concern by itself. to get back to level 5 you HAVE to go through a portal, and your waypoint scroll point is lost. and could be somewhere in widowers nest or wherever further along.

i agree that the system is not perfect, but adding in extra opbelisks or whatever every 2 levels is excessive. i think one simple measure would fix this issue. don't have "the last portal" save point override a waypoint scroll. have both available from the obelisk, and have one clearly state "waypoint - Agrocks field" or whatever. i think one of the reasons, this hasn't been done, is that then boss farmers can then potentially farm 2 bosses. i'm sure some code could be written such that you can only have one boss point saved at a time or some such to prevent this.

I find that really funny, because new quests are now being added rather frequently. The thing is, people who farm bosses aren't doing the quests, because they don't have "good enough" rewards. Make up your minds. Either you're looking for the most time-efficient way of getting gold/xp, in which case nothing will ever beat farming, or you also get your fun in other ways, in which case just go enjoy the quests, even if the rewards in terms of gold/xp are less than optimal. (I'm using the general 'you,' by the way.)

Anyway, having waypoint not be related to gate still isn't helpful. You have to return a quest to someone on the second level. You complete the quest on the fourth level. You're a casual player with time to clear only two levels in a sitting. You have to clear levels 2-4 just getting there, and probably 4 an extra time to complete the quest, so that's two sittings. You then have to clear level 3 and 2 again to get back to the quest-giver. Then you have to re-clear those levels to get back up to 4 so you can continue. Finally, you clear 4 again to move on. That's five sittings of play just to return one quest, when it could easiy have been just one or two sittings were there an obelisk on 2 and 4, or a way to set more than one waypoint. And if you took a break from the quest half way through to go group with your friends in another dungeon.. a couple more sessions just clearing levels just to get back to where you were. I enjoy door-dashing as much as the next person wearing -20% movement speed gear, but I don't think it should be a requirement for normal play.

All the suggestions about new waypoint systems have also been criticized in that they make it easier to farm. I say, they actually discourage farming. Some farmers won't go do new quests because they'd lose their waypoint at the boss, so they spend the time they would have spent doing quests, farming. If they could save their waypoint at the boss and go on quests, less time spent farming! And as for farming more than one boss, I don't see how it's any more 'harmful' than farming one.

Oh, and it's 'angsty,' and it means something different than 'annoyed.'

I must agree; I went and killed Sissirat, then came back to town, completed some quests, and had to go to level 1 of Algernon...after which, I logged out. When I logged back in, oops, I can't go back to Sissirat's lair and move on to Agrock's Gauntlet, because it only stores the last portal...and yet, if I've got a waypoint set, I can't see what the last portal was. And then I did something similar again (Algernon Audit: Red Tape, I think the quest was), and lost it a second time. And it doesn't help that I'm a 'kill everything you see' sort of person, either.

What I'd like may be simplest described through an example: I log in, start going through Algernon, and wind up reading a waypoint scroll on the first level. This adds the first level of Algernon to a player-managed portal list, and allows you to return there at will. Then I read one in the Orok Outpost side dungeon, so that one is added...and so on, down through level seven. If I'm through the Orok Outpost and then read another waypoint scroll on the first level of Algernon, it doesn't add a second 'first level of Algernon' player portal, it changes the original one on the player list to drop me in front of the Orok Outpost portal (or whatever portal was last used to enter that level). I would also have the option to delete portals from the player-managed list at any time (ok, maybe only at an obelisk, but that's not too onerous), so I can remove dungeon levels that I'm no longer interested in visiting.

And, yes, this would make it easy to save boss locations, but it'd also make it easier for people who maybe only play one or two levels before logging out...or people like me who haven't mastered the portal dance yet.

The problem that we "casual" gamers encounter, is there are quest npcs placed all over a dungeon. If I'm trying to beat Algernon, and do quests that are in levels 1 and 5 of algernon, it's extremely tedious to have to go back and forth over and over.

Yes, the waypoint scrolls work well, but if I log in after work, teleport to my waypoint on Alg-7, finish my quest for Alg-5, I then have to go all the way back through Alg-7, Alg-6, and Alg-5 to turn in that quest. Having to re-explore three massive floors to turn in a quest can easily take a half hour or more.

If I had a chance to teleport to Alg-4 or Alg-6 (without breaking my Alg-7 waypoint) I could clear just one (or possibly two) levels, saving me 10-15 minutes of unnecessary tedium.

If you could use more than one waypoint scroll (set a limit of 3, to different places) or if the obelisk could teleport to every even or odd level of an instance, it would eliminate a great deal of downtime and repetition. I may have an hour to play, and I don't want to waste the majority of that hour traipsing through dungeon levels I've already beaten a half dozen times. I want to log in, turn in my quest, and then continue pushing forward with the actual game. I don't find that unreasonable, given that this is a "free" game designed to attract like-minded casual gamers.

Well all of this could be easily solved by fulfilling that age old suggestion of having a NPC in town to hand all quests in to. many quests though there is no "reclearing" of levels. reclearing implies you are having to kill all the mobs. many a time ive had to re run up to lvl 7 to get back to a boss for a group who want to run a certain boss. never took me more than 20 mins to run through all 7.

and thanks. i new something about anxsty looked wrong. new word = anxious crossed with angsty?

well they could make bosses be worth cheez wizz
-in terms of xp AND loot
-they could require bosses to be beaten to reach next dng
<no skipping allowed>
-bosses could explode on deth instantly killing any1 who saw him even if their in town when he dies
-they could replace bosses with giant donuts

if treasure chests had the BEST rewards <even xp>
-and appeared randomly <they do right ?>
-ppl would actually need to -play- the game to farm them

but thats just silly isnt it ?..playing..phsshh whatever

personally i dont care if ppl farm bosses
-but it seems like it would get dull eventually
-doesnt it get dull ?
-if not cheers to you

I like the 'flavor' of having quest NPCs in the dungeons, but I must admit that I always get really happy discovering that a quest I've just finished returns to the Towneston commander. I'd support this, but I'd still rather have the waypoint system fixed in a way that didn't penalize you for grouping for a bit with friends in a different dungeon.

I can door-dash fairly quickly, but it's still tedious and a little frustrating. When there's a payoff at the end, like a boss, it's more fun, but when it's door-dash three levels, turn in a quest, door-dash back, and be back where you started.. Not so exciting.

Anxsty sounds like it should be a name for something. Maybe a new mob type?
