the longevity of this game
#19063 - 04/02/07 03:38 AM |
This game held my interest until a couple of things happened: ran out of quests after vergrim killed almost all the bosses leveling up too slowly and ended up facing Rotgut at lv 25, even though I picked every dungeon floor clean from the top down at least once and usually more so basically after two days and 25 levels I got bored.. I did enjoy the quests though so once more of them are in there I might be more inclined to head back.. despite the fact that I could probably make far more loot/money/xp farming the Chieftain boss floor than the quest rewards (which I got bored of after doing like 5 times.. I'm not cut out for farming apparently). anyway I'm sure they'll come up with new content to keep players hooked but from my perspective they still have a long ways to go.. I'm guessing their business model works like 'even if a person only signs up for a month then gets bored and leaves, we'll get so many impulse signups that there will be a steady income'. I signed up! Edited by inversion (04/02/07 03:58 AM) |

Quote: 1)I feel your pain at the ending of the quests around the vergrim area. I'm at Widower's Lair (I think?) and I just may as well run Vergrim with the fish and singing sword quests up to get a ton of money and decent experience. 2)Yeah, it takes a while to level up. There doesn't really seem to be any reason to clear levels at the moment, unless you're just really unlucky and end up not finding the exit until then. Perhaps they should implement some kind of reward system for clearing a floor of all monsters. An exp bonus based on your level would be cool, but it could be many different things, like slots that give you a random prize based on what you roll (item, exp, gold, etc). I'm starting to get bored with the game too, but since I'm not a subscriber, it would probably be a good idea to subscribe for a month to see if it renews my interest in the game. Maybe... |

They always seem to add new quests anyway. But the way I see it, their technically not within completion status. So in the end I think its safe to say that they will improve things. -------------------- Entrican - Mage - LV Range (20-30) |

A dungeon crawl game like this lives or dies by the easter egg model imo. Quests just provide context for what you're really doing, looking for the leet items. The problem with this is that everything in DR has lvl reqs on it. So a great rainbow item can be quickly outgrown. It would be nice if instead of lvl reqs, items scaled in power through some formula that factored in your current attributes and skill lvls. Also, and this has been mentioned before, the ability to collect things usually prolongs a games life. Item sets or components for recipes are 2 well used examples. A random quest generator would make things interesting too, but again, only if there is something to quest for, those rare easter eggs, whatever they are. |

I see this game lasting a long time, and I'll probably be here to enjoy it. My impretion of the game, reminds me of Diablo 1. Alot of the features of the game are identical to features that were in Diablo 1, and some from Diablo 2. I love it, but this type of game play isn't for everyone. As long as the game is regularly updated and content continues to be added, the game will only get bigger and better, and if it doesn't then it won't. As far as the business model is concerned, I'm not really sure their plan was to lure in impulse signup's, probably more like make a game we enjoy playing, and hope other people enjoy playing it. I've seen Dev's on, just playing the game because they like the game. I played the game for 2 days before I became a member, and I also debated on whether or not half an hour of work was worth the hours of fun I've already had, and am going to have in the future. |

Quote: You are a power leveler / hard core gamer / whatever you want to call yourself but casual. If you are playing that many hours in a row, you are going to get bored here just due to how small and easy it is compared to the big MMO's. There are no time sinks here, no rep grinds, no crafting, no gathering, no real travel times. Its the ultimate casual game. Slow down and enjoy! -------------------- Johara From Brutish Barbarian to Stinging Rogue! RAWR!! lvl 50

Quote: that gives me an idea. id on't knwo how codeable it is, but why not make rainbows automaticcaly adjust their bonuses to your level? that way rainbows become something far more prized. because the 2 i got were dropped at least 2 levels below mine, making them pretty much useless (although they were fighter gear and thus useless anyways) and then maybe add the ability to pay to have normal items do the same thing. -------------------- The FAQ-Read it! Quote: I'd actually be against that. A lot of the fun of this game is getting l33t new gear, and if you've got a rainbow helm that gets buffed every time you level, you're not even going to glance at the helmets you find any more, because you know none will be as good. There goes one less fun piece of loot to collect. -------------------- Swordgleam - Level 40-something Arcane Fighter Vanishing into the wilderness from May 25 to late August. |

That and all i would have to do starting from agrocks is famr coins use em at a dungeon vendor till i get a rainbow for that item do the same for next dungeon vendor. so on and so on then i'd have a complete rainbow set that i would never have to change <g> granted that would be one huge headache and would take quite the while too do. expecially as far as the jewelry is concerned. ![]() |

I also respectfully disagree. Getting a rainbow drop is great and, assuming its for your class, is probably a huge upgrade when you get it (I have yet to see one at level ~28). But if you never had any hope to upgrade that piece of gear thats a percentage less of loot drops you have to look forward to. Too many of those and why fight at all unless its just to get through the dungeons? |
