Armor and Agility
#16339 - 02/28/07 12:14 AM

I have two question about the game mechanics.

Armor:

Is armor calculated on a percent basis or on a flat rate? With a flat rate one big attack has an advantage over several small attacks against a heavily armored target. With a percent basis it the only thing that matters is the dps you generate regardless of speed (like in WoW)

Agility:

Everything i can find says that agility increases your chance to hit. Does it effect you ability to dodge attacks like in some other games? (like in real life)

Thanks

agility adds ranged damage.. it also increases attack rating so i dont think it affects dodging ability, that, i think, comes under the defense rating.(derived from str)

someone correct me if i'm wrong

Ahhh good Question on the Armor. If I may I would also like to add this Question.

Does the lvl of Armor you are wearing make a difference in your Def. / Abilities in that the higher lvl armor is better even when the def / enhancements are lower then a lower lvl piece. IE LVL 29 has 175 def with xxxx enhancements while LVL 31 only has 165 def with xxxx enhancements. ?

Hope I made that clear.

Thanks, Slo.

the only difference between those two pieces, should be lvl requirement. your stat bonuses etc increase as your level does, and generally you can find higher dr pieces too

think of it this way. if they were both white items, all they'd have wasa lvl req and a dr. the thing with bonus stats, is that they can be more useful than the dr.

again, someone correct me if im wrong

My take is that the better stats on the item means more than a higher level weapon. Defence rating isnt as importand as some stats as well, i took a lower defence rating item for the bonus it gave to str, or agility for example. Or mana steal.

Defence rating has to do with your ability to reflect damage. I dont think there is a damage reduction.

When getting attacked by physical damage it's your defense rating against the attack rating of the attacker. I won't post the exact formula (because I want it to be a mystery), but just know that a higher defense rating will help you be "missed" more often by attackers. There is no damage reduction, outside of magical properties on items.

Ok, so with this being said I can assume that my misses on mobs comes from my "Attack Rating" being low verse the mobs defense rating that I am attacking?

So does one ever become a dodge monkey of sorts by having a defense much higher then the mobs attack rating??

hmm Very good Information. Question, Does Ranged (Arrows/Shotguns) register as Melee / physical damage?

(Hope I am not jacking this thread, don't mean to)

Thanks, Slo.

Odd concept. Wearing full plate armor, which weighs a ton, helps me "evade" a monsters attack. But if he manages to hit me, his attack goes through my full plate like a hot knife through butter.

Think of it as "blocking" an attack, you either hit the armor or you dont; and if you dont it goes through like it would any flesh. Armor doesnt absorb blow after blow in the first place so it actually makes more sense than a simple reduction, still both accomplish the same thing.
