So a lot has happened since December?

No, actually nothing has happened except billing. Everything else got pushed back.

Hey Colon! Hows my favourite internal organ doing?

Moving right along, footloose and fancy free, so say the Muppets. Sorry I didn't reply sooner -- I don't really look at these forums any more now that I rarely play DR (and refuse to pay).

I do understand *why* the devs did what they did. It's damage control. However, it highlights a fundamental concern of all of ours from the start. If the devs idea of improving communication is to destroy it, what does that say?

It begins with messages, and then it turns to banning from the forums.

<.<
>.>

DR is a game that must be based on a solid user community. If a community arises, it will be in *spite* of, rather than because of, the actions we've seen. A company that struggles with the most basic issues of communicating to (what they hope will be) a fraction of their potential customers has little hope of improving upon their record when the population increases drastically. (Perhaps in another surprise beta test conclusion.) The bad thing is that customers who *start* the game paying won't be as forgiving as those who tried it for free and stuck around because of their innate loyalty. (And I salute them, though I am not one.) People who come to the table with cash have expectations this game has little hope of meeting. (My opinion, of course.)

As my psychologist friend says, the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Past behavior = bad communication, misdirection, and outright manipulation. When we were griping at the beta end, we basically were told that multiple characters were on the brink of happening and that they'd be stupid NOT to do it.

Now they're saying they need to determine if there's a demand.

Grrrrr. It reminds me of how angry I got when the beta ended. This company actively ignores and mislead us, and now they are reinventing the past and utterly dismissing everything we told them.

So be it. Isn't it true that people reap what they sow? They've sown a whole ton of crap. Harvest time is going to be nasty.

There is a lot of truth to this, and only the veterans know.

Im anxious to see what happens on reckoning day!

This bugs me a lot. and it smells like a cover up and a hush up (i even got banned from the forums, although crickette swears it was a glitch - odd kind of glitch)

1. we still havent actually been told the date of the beta close, and they never sent out an email saying it was finished, we were only told it was over when we complained about paying for a beta

2. Most of us refuse to pay. the board receives a very sudden wipe, of all of our gripes are gone about how the game is not ready to pay for.

3. Referral is opened within 2 days of billing going live. all the new players shoot down the old players, saying the $5 is chump change and we should pay it, and the reasons for us not paying is lost amongst all the new players rushing to cough up their "chump change" to use their purples and the bank. you cant even explain to them why you aren't paying, they just don't get it.

4. Updates are so far apart. little bugs they've said they've fixed, we don't see the fix for months. why not do a fortnightly patch so we can see some progress more often?

mabe it's a string of miscommunication and just coinkidinks, but i'm beginning to think they just wanted to drown out the few of us left from the beta phase's voice of dissent with the voices of eager new players willing to hand over their money for something that looks so attractive at the start.

How many "yes we should have told you sooner"s and "oh that's our bad, but we can't change it now"s does it take to declare it a conspiracy i wonder?

In the end old timers, those who were once beta-testers (oficially), want this game to succeed. We like it! Some of us love it inspite of its shortcomings and all the miscommunication/(dis)information.

All that's really left is to hope that the new *paying* players will use their real world leverage, the money they're forking over, to pressure DR into improving.

They 'dropped the ball' a few times on the old timers (beta testers) lets hope they don't do the same on the new guys (new paying members)... cuz if they do, well... that Sharp Pointy Dagger of Lost Revenue has a nasty crit...

adios,
biterman.

The person who sent me my invite got banned for being outspoken. They dont want to hear the truth.

1 - True

2 - True

3 - New players dont have a clue what they're in for. But once they wait months for Promises of content and fixes, which remain as just promises, they will understand.

4 - Far apart? THERE HAVE BEEN NO UPDATES since beta ended. No content, no fixes, no new builds...Zilch!

Lack of communication is the key as I see it. Players can be extremely understanding and resiliant as long as good communication is present.

I disagree! As long as people pay, in spite of their poor performance, they have no incentive to make changes. If you choke them where it hurts, then and only then will things improve. Thats why I refuse to pay! That is our only leverage.

They need to turn some of their words into action. They love to use phrases like, "we plan on this", "we are considering this", "this will be in the next build", etc...etc...These are just stall tactics, and I can only speculate as to why they dont take action. Maybe they dont have enough programmers and developers on the project. Maybe they dont have any. We dont know because they refuse to communicate.

Ok now watch, I will be the next one to get banned for speaking out against the MAN.

It will only be a matter of time until the new players see the same pattern. I sure hope for the games sake that this pattern changes soon because Reckoning Day approaches.

but that's where you're wrong. we lost our leverage the moment they opened the invites again. the few of us waiting for theose golden promises, well our voices have been lost in the the drone of "this game is fantastic" and "i'm paying because $5 is chump change"

you know, that's a fair point. isn't it kinda standard to do an update when the beta ends? hmmmm

last night i saw that some of the new intake have passed lvl 30. i asked if they were bored or happy grinding. about 50% of them said they were bored, and only hanging around til pvp or some other feature comes in. sound familiar?

you know what else? they haven't even fixed our issues with the forums, like the tiny post box. that doesn't even take a game update. lol

I'd bet dollars to donuts it WAS a glitch, as there was a glitch on the CoH/V forums awhile back that caused a mass banning of several forum players.
