questions for a dev on grouping
#14598 - 02/07/07 11:15 PM |
much discussion goes on in game as to how exactly grouping works... but a lot of the time, what we say to people doesn't hold true. question number 1. what determines (ie what algorithm) the difficulty of the mobs you face? is it based purely on the leader's level? i ask this one because today i grouped with some very low levelers. i am lvl 45 they were under 20. understandably, the mobs were incredibly hard for them (and yellow to me). so we swapped so that the lvl 15 char was leader. somehow the boss (now green) was harder for me to kill and cast more sresurrect and fire rain spells more often. we could not kill the boss (abby) even though we sat there for a good 20 minutes Q2. how big is the kill zone you must be in to claim a share in loot and exp? Q3. if you are dead but in the one will you still stake a claim? Q4. does the mob automatically go for the lowest lvl player? if so, could this perhaps be switched to the leader of the group? Q5. how exactly is exp and loot divied up? i think that covers it cheers Ivy -------------------- The FAQ-Read it! Why isn't DR in beta? coz the Big Boss Man said so! Ivalaine - Lvl 50 Waynger |

Yeah, I was there. I remember once mobs going straight for me while Laurana was just standing there (well she wasn't just standing there, you know what I mean). Scary. For a while there I was just running around in circles LMAO while mobs chased me... hehe, fun fun... adios, biterman. -------------------- It is time to toss the dice and hope that chance rolls in our favor. |

I've also noticed that the mobs make a beeline for the lowest level person. -------------------- Swordgleam - Level 40-something Arcane Fighter Vanishing into the wilderness from May 25 to late August. |

I think I have some answers. Q1. The monsters level depends on the leader level. Q2. You get XP and loot when you are in the same stage Q3. You get no xp when you are dead but if you stay, you still get the loot. (Had the experience with a boss) Q4. Monsters look for the warrior first Q5. For XP you get the same xp alone or in group (The xp depends of the color of the monster) -------------------- Sorry for my English, I am French ![]() |

Some corrections below: Q1. The monsters level depends on the leader level.- Correct, also the monster level is set by the zone level range as well, so the min level of the monster will never be below that of the zone, even if your leader’s level is. Other factors are that your group size affects the number of monsters that spawn as well as increasing their health and mana. Q2. You get XP and loot when you are in the same stage- Correct Q3. You get no xp when you are dead but if you stay, you still get the loot. (Had the experience with a boss)- Correct Q4. Monsters look for the warrior first- Incorrect, they go after the person with the lowest health or the person closest to them in that order Q5. For XP you get the same xp alone or in group (The xp depends of the color of the monster) - Correct Hope that helps, Kit -------------------- "Making games better one bug at a time..." |

Q4. Monsters look for the warrior first- Incorrect, they go after the person with the lowest health or the person closest to them in that order I can show you that they go for the warriors lol -------------------- Sorry for my English, I am French ![]() |

You are probably seeing that because of the proximity factor. If a lower health person and a warrior are both standing at the same distance, they should be going after the lower health person. I will do some extra testing to confirm that this has not changed since we last tested it, but this is the way it it designed. ![]() -------------------- "Making games better one bug at a time..." |

They always go for the warrior even if an other character is close to them. And you have a small chance to get the agro of melee monster even if you shoot them when they are fighting the warrior. But you have more chance to get the monsters with range attack. An other thing if you use the skill stomp in a monster group you may get the agro after ![]() -------------------- Sorry for my English, I am French ![]() |

ok. most of that makes sense EXCEPT the first one. we went in grouped with me as the leader (lvl 45), and we killed abby twice in about 15 minutes, it wasn't too hard (excpet for me having to chase him cose he was chasing biterman) but the others were struggling so we swapped so a lvl 15 was leader, and Abby suddenly became increasingly hard and we simply could not kill him. i ran out of potions in the 20 mins we tried to kill him. im lucky to use 5 pots in an abby run, even when i killed him solo grouped with 4 people higher levels than me. it was absolutely bizzarre. also someone needs to fix the double spawn bug. two abbys are not much fun when they're casting fire rain everywhere -------------------- The FAQ-Read it!
