I'm at work and we're trying to play this game atlunch time.

I have had to get the network admin guys to give my machine direct access to our net pipe just so i could get the damn launcher to even start up because it couldnt connect to the update server and doesn't provide any proxy configuration options. And no the ports are not blocked.

So once we get pass this hurdle and it connects it then barfs up:

"Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

A little googling turns up some information that this is caused by .NET and certain data permissions for Web based applications.

Please fix this mess...

I think that you should ask your employer about this :p. Every company has it own server system and in many are some of the web applications banned or disabled in order to prevent employees to spend their time on unwanted issues, i.e. you should not play games while you are in work.

Please don't post unless you have answers...

If you had read my post properly it states clearly that our Network Admin team have been trying to get this to work. They opened up an unobstructed connection for me which was able to connect then it generated and error which is to do with the API the launcher uses.

Incidentaly I work for a developer that allows it's staff to play games during lunch hours...

Get over yourself. If you want "answers" then open an official support ticket. If you don't want opinions, don't post in internet forums. Also, you invite flaming with a topic like "NC Launcher is rubbish!". You didn't even ask a question, so how are we supposed to answer you? You simply stated your inflammatory opinion.

The launcher works perfectly well for most players, so what is your definition of rubbish, exactly? I opine that most games and their launchers/patchers aren't designed to work behind a corporate network (nor should you EVER expect them to), regardless of your employer's policies. That doesn't mean it can't be done, but games are designed for home users with fewer security restrictions and protocols than those you'd find in a corporate environment.

Are you an admin on the machine?
Is the machine running anti-virus/software firewall?
Is the machine running Xp, and if so, does it have the XP firewall enabled?
Do you have 5% of the machine's HD space free?
How large is the pagefile cache size?
Does the machine have an onboard vid card or an agp/pci-e card?
How much RAM does the machine have and what is the idle usage?

If you do not provide information pertaining to the problem, people can't help you.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble with the Launcher! We purposefully use port 80 for all Launcher traffic specifically so that individuals (or network teams) won't have to go through extra trouble of opening ports. Most firewalls won't block it either since it's just downloading web traffic. It sounds like your machine requires a proxy connection however, which NCsoft does not _officially_ support. However if you set the proxy connection in Internet Explorer's internet settings, the Launcher will use these by default, and you should no longer require a direct net connection.

As for the memory error you are seeing, that definitely has me concerned. I don't believe that we've seen that one before, and I want to look into it. I will make sure that our support team takes a look at this so we can get you playing.

Thanks Taytay,

And I apologise for being rude.

I'm just pretty frustrated with the experience I've had so far. Creaing a forum account was the 1st thing that annoyed me. You have to use your NC Account user name to login not the display name you created then you use the password you created for the forum not the NC Soft account password. Very confusing and not very consistent.

I have .NET version 1.1 and 2.0 installed on my work machine if that helps in resolving the memory error.

When the Launcher starts up it does this:

- Testing BITS Service
- Unable to Contact Launcher Update Server

If I 'Skip' I can then get to the main menu and can browse each of the games. So this part is working with respect to web content.

We use a Proxy at work and it is auto configured.
