How to quickly use melee
vB post 152350 - 02/16/09 10:39 AM

I was wondering is there any way to quickly switch between ranged and melee weapons, it's kind of dissapointing that the ranger can only seem to either use ranged or melee.

Thanks

Short answer, no.

Long answer, the current design of Dungeon Runners doesn't necessarily lend itself well to quickly switching from ranged to melee damage due to the use of passive skills for each of the different types of damage. For example the skill "Way of Roo" buffs melee attack rating and speed, but lowers magic damage and ranged weapon speed. Likewise, "Trigger Happy" buffs ranged attack speed, but lowers magic damage and melee attack speed. You can definitely slot both, if you're willing to live with buffs canceling each other out and taking up extra slots. I do, for example, with certain hybrid builds (typically, mage/ranger or mage/fighter). Additionally, all the "fighting" skills require either a melee weapon or ranged weapon to activate. As such, your skill bar will be filled with this active skills, as well. This skill dependency differentiates Dungeon Runners from most other games.

FYI, don't think of a "ranger" as a class, per se, like Rangers or Scouts in other games. In Dungeon Runners there really aren't classes. Instead, there are attack types (ranged, melee and magic). Your character is defined by what combination of skills and weapon you use, not by stereotypical "classes" you're used to from other games. For now, there aren't any melee "ranger" skills or ranged "fighter" skills.

All that being said, I would love to be able to hotswap gear and an alternate toolbar with the touch of a button. Doing so might be game, breaking, though.

The ranged/melee switch is kinda tricky. You not only have to watch the passives as was said, but your stats have a big impact as well.

Rangers get their damage with agility. Fighters with strength. So a simple weapon/ passive skill switch may not be very effective. If you want to run a rgr/ftr hybrid, the best way I can think of with out respec is to carry jewelry/gear with strength bonuses to be able to effectively do any melee damage.
