After recently installing FarCry2 and being ever so kindly informed that my 8800's graphics drivers were out of date, I went and installed the latest drivers, once installed I had no mini-map in DRs and no Tab-map.
After rolling back my drivers (burn in hell with your SecuROM DRM FC2!!) the map came back fine.

I'd really rather be using the latest drivers but am willing to forgo it for a working mini-map.

Does/has anyone have this problem on an 8800 GTX graphics card and is there any handy dandy fix for it?

It appears to be a bug between the game and the latest Nvidia drivers (linky...). Try turning off your AA and see if that helps. You could also try setting up a custom DR profile in the Nvidia control panel and playing with settings.

I have 8800GT and no issues... yet. Haven't updated the drivers though. I might do that and see what happens, and see if I can find a solution.

Thanks for the info but after spending 14+ hours today getting my drivers sorted out (rolling back my graphics drivers caused a chain reaction with my audio drivers), I think I'll pass on re-updating and experimenting with AA.

I will however be reinstalling windows on my brand new 1.5 TB drive (Yay!), so I'll have to try that AA idea when I use updated drivers on my fresh install.

I can confirm the the mini-map and auto-map stopped displaying (only the location icons are present) when I updated to the latest Nvidia drivers for my 8800GT card.

Never mind then... I'll just cancel my little experiment then.

I have 2 8800gtx's and i just recently updated my drivers as well... turned anti-alias off, and my mini-map now displays shows everything not just the location points... the new nvida drivers have a conflicting issue with the games anti-alias... im going to make a custom profile soon and post it so i can run the game with it on. so just turn it off to fix the mapp

So, bottom line, I can update the drivers to run my other games at optimal, as long as I turn off AA in this game?

yes so far... i had an issue with vertical sync as well turned i off fixed the issue... but im still playing with driver profiles in the nvidia control panel... all post an update as soon as get the right combo. Crysis, oblivion, company of heros, bio shock still all work fine... i put back in my 8800GT too see if it had the same problem as the gtx and it, and its the same. turning off the AA also fixes the problem. so im guessing its all 8800 at this point have the driver issue.

Interesting, I'll make a point of testing it with new drivers and no AA when I reinstall.
Now sure when I'll be reinstalling windows though, gotta find my cd key for Vista (ugh).

Well after being forced to update my graphics drivers I can confirm that updating to the latest 8800 drivers does knock out the minimap, however disabling AA does fix the map as AlovableSTD said.

I guess if it's a choice between random crashes, no minimap, or jagged looking trees, I'll take the trees. :P

Thank you. Now that I know how to make it work, I feel better about the notion of updating the drivers so I can play Fallout 3 and Witcher Enhanced on max settings.

I will once I experience it... by then I will have driver numbers, .NET version numbers, and any other info they might want.
