For a fast mele...
vB post 142441 - 10/11/08 02:54 PM

Like a rogue or assasin. What stats would be best?

Im thinking to just put everything equally in str and agi or even just all in str or all in just agi.

would one of those work? Or would i die due to the total lack of endurance?

you would die due to total lack of endurance.

A rouge or assassin build is pretty much impossible in this game because of the open class system. Since you can't really sneak up on mobs, the only way to get good one shot hits is with big slow 2h weapons with good str/agil stats and critical hit bonus, but that leaves you with very little endurance and survivability.

With the new pirate armor, and at least one new Mythic(verigrim specific helm) there is now very light fighter armor, that has fairly low defense, but is fast like light ranger armor with str and melee bonuses. So with the pirate gear the rouge/assassin like build is almost there, but only in the sense that they move faster and have light armor.

The problem with the pirate gear, is that as far as i know, you can only get it from the well, and it only comes in unique quality. So building a full set is really only feasible once you get to 100 so as not to dilute the effectiveness of the gear.

Yes i am aware of the untenability to make a very good assassin/rogue build in DR, but i just wanted a good build for a fast mele attacker that isnt dirt slow. I dont want something that would work perfectly but something that is decent.

I also read the post below me but i really dont want an "assassin" Or "rogue" But i just want a fighter that can attack very fast in comparison with the average fighter and isnt very slow.

So would anyone recommend a decent stat build and what abilities to grab that would be good for a speedy mele fighter?

The only two abilities at the moment that come to mind seem to be the 1h swivel action and the spirit of the hare ( or w/e the speed increase the ranger trainer teaches is callled.). And Cleave seems decent to grab.

But what else?

EDIT: I would 1 endurance 2str and 2 agil work?

I'm guessing you want to attack fast then?

Ok stats don't increase attack speed, and only 2 skills do 1h and 2h swivel. Spirit of the hare increases movement, thats all.

For stat building, i generally suggest 2 agil/3 end. 1 agil/4 end works as well, but 1 agil/3endurance would be a little better.

Str is going to be on most of the fighter gear you are going to find, therefor it's really not necessary to put it into innate stats. The benefits are really only slight. 1 pt to str adds 1.5 points of melee damage, and a little defense.

So the skills you would want to use would be 1h or 2h swivel arm action, and your passives, everything else depends on your play style and equipment build(mostly adjusting for resistances if needed). So whatever attack skills you want to use. Cleave is good to use for mobs, usually later in game when the mobs are bigger so its more effective. Soul rend and holy roller are good for extra damage, and catching ranged mobs respectively. Heal self, for in between skirmishes, and spirit of the hare if you need to back track more than a few steps to clear the dungeon, or get to the door you want.

Now to really work the build how you want, increasing attack speed. Its as simple(or pain in the ass) as looking for gear that has + to melee attack speed. Some unique scale armor has this bonus(this is also the regular fighter armor with the lease speed reduction, not including pirate gear), not a lot else other than maybe jewelry until you get to mythics, there are rings and a few bits of armor that will do this for you.

Pirate armor is the same way, much of it has + to melee attack speed. Pirate armor also serves a dual purpose if you are trying to be able to move fast as well. There is no movement speed reduction on pirate armor(that i've seen) and i think there are some with a slight increase to movement speed. But its light armor, like middle weight ranger armor, which also means it has much lower defense than standard fighter armor.

Some ranger armor is acceptable to use to lower the reduction in speed from regular fighter armor. Splint armor, notably Bone and Military splint(unique). Helm, gloves, boots and shoulders in these types have -1% speed, same as fighter scale armor, so its best to use the fighter stuff there since the defense is going to be higher, and stats will probably be more what you are looking for. The major benefit is going to be from using a body piece, since they only have -2% speed vs fighter scales -8%. You'll want to use pieces with end and agil stats only, not usually int, since the small amount won't do a lot for you. They come in 100% of one of those stats, 75%ish/25%ish and 50%/50%. Go with one that fits your needs of a particular stat, or you can use other gear based on the stats on your body piece. Try not to use pieces with empty bonuses, such as + to ranged attack speed or damage, but if your movement speed is the major factor in using it, then it doesn't matter as much as long as the stat bonuses make sense. NOTE: Some of the Mythic varieties of the Military Splint have + to movement speed that counteracts the -, so -2% standard, and + 1, 2, 3 or 4%. As far as i know this is most common on peripheral pieces, usually gloves or boots.

In general its good to have close to 100-110ish attack rating for every level you are i.e. lvl 40 you want around 4000 attack rating, give or take a few hundred. This is one of the reason i suggest putting 2:3 agil:end for stats, it gets you closer to the attack rating you want, particularly when you don't have many or any pieces of gear that add agil or have attack rating bonuses.

So to be brief the only things that speed up your attack speed are:
Items with +Attack Speed

Spells:
  • Way of the Roo, passive.
  • 1H Swivel Arm Action, buff for 1 hand weapons.
  • 2H Swivel Arm Action, buff for 2 hand weapons.
  • Dark Conniption, buff for 1 hand weapons with a shield.
