Fascination with Assassination
vB post 141887 - 10/07/08 02:14 AM |
I'm more or less looking for input on whether it is feasible to construct a character that acts as an assassin/rogue style character. I'm rather new to the game, but from what I've seen thus far, there are only a handful of possible archetypes that can be effectively used... well, without total suckitude. I'm happy with my ranger and all, but every time I try to start a new character with the intention of being sneaky and underhanded in combat, the system fails me(or I fail the system, which is infinitely more likely). I suppose I just have an unnatural fascination with hitmen and assassins. But unfortunately, there don't yet seem to be any skills or items that really compliment that idea. My fantasy is to create a character that slinks along hallways and forests unseen until that critical moment when I burst forth from the shadows and shank the living bejeezus out of the unsuspecting mob. *sigh* Or should I just give up that hope right now with this game? |

I've thought of trying out a speedy, poisonous, dagger-wielding build but I haven't gotten to it yet. That would be really cool. There are purple items who gives loads of +Attack Speed. -------------------- __________________________________________________ "May The Rainbows Drop As Cows From The Sky" HDoL.eu - Horrific Domain of Legend - Your source to Dungeon Runners |

I'm not the only psychopath up at this hour... wow. Yeah, the whole problem with the idea I think is lack of stealthy abilities. However... Blue Screen may make up for it... *ponders* |

Nah, you just need an obscenely high defense rating so the mobs never hit you. Think of it an an uber-version of the AD&D dodging skill, perfected by thieves and rouges. -------------------- Khaz: W4 Laker Girl Khaz of Shadow and Flame Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult. With a blog. |

Actually there is now (new last patch) a 'Ninja Armor' set, I don't know about the stats but at least you'll look like an assassin. -------------------- DarthNinja lvl 100 Arch Ninja ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Webmaster of DarthNinja.com Darth's Ninja Shoppe " Your source for the best Dungeon Runners items " "The Thread Necromancer!" |

As to the original post and other comments. I think it would be interesting to see this concept work out for you. As for the poison comment, are there any poison skills that will work with melee weapons? |

Yeah, I agree with the defense rating idea. It would likely be the closest thing to being stealthy there is currently. Poison would be a must. I dunno, I've only played a character up to lvl17 thus far though, so there may be more that I'm not seeing yet as far as items go to help with the build. Gaseous Blast would be a must I believe, for crowd control. May want to have a good old Righteous Stomp to help out for soloing(which is how I roll). I love having Righteous Stomp on my ranger, keeps them off of me long enough so I can stab them with bullets |

This is what I did some time ago, tried with Edge of the Su Nai, and Excutioner, those swords. Got loads of <element> to weapon attack stuff, in my case it was fire, and used pyromania along with speed skills, and tried to get very quick gear. Worked out pretty fine for PvP, not so well for PvE but yeah.. I expected that already. IMO, theres still too few all elements for all classes skills, like fire shot, poison slash or whatever. |

I agree, there are definitely not enough elemental skills to work with weapons in general. A poison skill for use with piercing weapons would be ideal for this build idea. Or just 1 hand weapons in general. Poison shot is great and all, but I've never seen a ninja with a shotgun |
