vB post 140833 - 10/01/08 04:45 PM

Just curious,

just hit 25 and thinking about that skill.
Is it worth the extra dmg which goes extra on my mana?
atm I got 11k Mana.

Would be cool to know ^^

yes! Did I say yes? (posts require a minimum of 15 characters or else the answer would have been just Yes!)

It's worth it, definitely, and is essential for INT Mages. However, I've tested out END Mages (in PvP) before, and they still work okay at higher levels.

Think of it as turning mana-bar to your "2nd health-bar" since damage taken is transfered to mana instead, making that go lower instead of your Health.

I think the ratio is:
level 1 = 50% damage absorbed
level 2 = 56% damage absorbed
level 3 = 62% damage absorbed
level 4 = 68% damage absorbed
level 5 = 74% damage absorbed
level 6 = 80% damage absorbed

BsoL has its advantages IF you can keep your int (mana) at high enough level to justify it.
If you are an endurance mage, then you won't need it as much (but you will get one shotted by quite a few bosses)

So on an 100HP Hit
Level 1:
50HP taken from HP
75HP taken from MP as MP

Level 6:
20HP taken from HP
105HP taken from MP as MP

Did I get this right ?

BSoL is a must-have for...
vB post 141085 - 10/02/08 10:13 PM

BSoL is a must-have for mages, Endurance (Battle) Mages don't need it but they're rather ineffective in anything but PvP.
One downside to BSoL is that it reduces Reflect skills and stats, because the amount reflected is a % of the damage you take.

For example:
100D(damage) - 80% = 20D + 200%(My reflect) = 60D
Whereas without BSoL it would have been:
100D + 200% = 300D

Now all that means is that lose the ability to use +damage reflect stats.
However you gain the ability to drop your hitpoints to very low levels in order to boost your intel for spell damage.

Agreed. Couple that with Crispy Critters, Pyromania and Thickheadedness, and you are pretty much a soloing death machine, or at the very least, a one-person wrecking crew.

It's amazing to see just how fast you actually gain exp with those skills. Toss in the mage passives, bling gnome, and the extra crispy KFC, and you can EASILY pull 5-6 GROUPS of mobs in a dungeon at a time, and cackle maniacally as you watch your exp counter go crazy.

Biggest problem by far is the time involved in deciding what loot to pick up and what to let the bling gnome play with.

Since mages have such a HUGE mana pool, it really doens't matter that you're taking mana damage, since your potions heal a percentage of your mana--that means that you really have supercharged mana regen built in.

I put 100 percent of my attribute points into INT, and never really had a problem with my low HP, due to my high mana. Hope that helps!

I tried it ^^
Yeah it's quite some change now.
But I often forget to recast it before it vanishes, gives a good shock.
Even with only 900HP almost no problem, really cool. Didn't think it makes such a huge difference.

thx guys

I developed the 'habit' of simply triggering it just before I started 'every' fight. That way you tend to do it automatically, so it doesn't suddenly drop on you right in the middle of a fight--which can get downright ugly if you've pulled 5-6 mobs of 15-20 mobs each and they all want to shake your hand at the same time...

I trigger it whenever I see it available. Waste of mana, but who cares? You have a lot of it. =P

True dat.
The 3k or so for the spell is barely a dent in your mana pool.
