Ray of Gosh
vB post 140419 - 09/28/08 09:28 PM

So what do all the other mages think of the new divine 'Ray of Gosh' spell?

I have no idea, but as a fighter with a focus entirely on dealing Divine damage, I think it kicks ass. It hits the ranged and running mobs, and it deals serious damage. Even better, when I use it to hit the cluster of mobs that are focussed on hitting me, it literally wipes them out.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I personally love it.

I love it, it's my new favourite AoE. It's cooldown synergises quite well with Shadow Lightning: you could easily alternate between the two (Ray of Gosh, Shadow Lightning, Ray of Gosh...) very quickly without triggering the stupid "run forward and whack the monster with your puny wand" annoyance.

On normal, a single Ray of Gosh on a Monster Bait surrounded with melee monsters can kill them all, while Shadow Lightning is great at taking out ranged mobs quickly and efficiently.

The spell does have it's problems though. For one thing, it's AoE is ridiculously small, you could cast it right next to a monster and it won't hit it. Also, the Ray only starts dealing damaging about a second after you cast it, so it's rather useless at attacking anything that isn't stationary. And... Mages don't have +Divine gear. Although that barely matters, since it does so much damage anyway (kind of like Gaseous Blast, in terms of damage: on par with "normal" Mage skills even without +Elemental Damage bonuses).

True, I ran a bit as a fighter with gear who gave loads of +divine and full Int (The Divineadin-build found here) and it's really, really useful and effective for that build.
*note to self: Need to update the build-guide with the info*

I think I'd like it a little better if it had a slower cooldown -more like RoF- but a higher damage output, as is its just a bit to slow to use as a primary and it's a bit to fast to cast, switch to primary, cast etc...

It's okay. I use it in conjuction with CC when im on pyro gear, and IS when I go ice.

Does it stack? The cooldown is faster than 3 secs, and I'm not sure if the damage stacks or not. I just cast it and then wait for 3 ticks before casting it again.

I'm not sure if it stacks, but from what I can tell when using it, the damage numbers are higher on later rays than on the first one. It's just an impression I'm getting though.

It doesn't stack, because though the Cooldown of RoG is only one second, it takes another one or two seconds after you cast it for the ray to shine down and start dealing damage, by which time the previous Ray would have ended.

There is at least one RB with +to Divine Damage, the verigrim specific robe. But the only way to obtain it at a level where its useful(45+ for RoG) is from the well. However there were new stats added to some unique gear, such as + to mage casting speed. I've seen this on Eidolon, Revenant and Ninja gear, and i wouldn't be surprised to see + to divine damage on some mage gear out there as well. They added a Poison Mage weapon via sissirat as well.

There are lots of Fighter RBs that add + Divine DMG... I have a few of them. For mages though, I haven't heard of any other than the Vergrim ones.

I've been waiting for a skill like this to come out for awhile now, and all I can say is when im spec'd mage its one of my favorite skills to use, sadly though I have never seen a ring with full int and divine %

Hopefully if it isn't already in the game I would love to see the addition of divine mage items/jewelry and possibly more skills.

While you're waiting, buy Divine Ascendancy and Righteous Stomp from the Fighter trainer. I find RS very useful for my alt toon, the lvl 8 mage. I would never have tried it if I hadn't found a skill book, but it really is very nice to have.
