Having Lag Issues?
vB post 139451 - 09/22/08 05:05 PM

As we all know, no one likes lags. Well I see people asking how to fix it and I have some suggestions.

1: Get a cleaning program. I use crap cleaner. It gets rid of old internet files you just do not need. http://www.ccleaner.com/

2: Defragment your computer. Some may ask "How?" Simply go to start, My computer, right click the drive you want to defrag (usually drive C) click properties, then click the tools tab and there you are!

3: If your doing virus scans or something to that effect, don't run DR its common sense the vvirus programs are checking all your files for viruses including dungeon runners.exe. Just wait till the scan is done.

4: Don't run ANYTHING besides DR. Everything you do on your compuer takes up computer useage. Simply running DR solo should significantly reduce your lag.

I follow these steps myself I hope they help!

Nice tips.

Also, thanks for the crap cleaner link. My computer is about 3 months old and I haven't defragged it or anything like that. I'm not lagging when playing the same with firefox and itunes on, but I think it would be a good idea to defrag anyway (:

I have a desktop computer that lags so badly in DR that it is beyond infuriating.

The computer in question has 2GB of RAM, a GeForce 7800 GTS and a 3GHz P4 processor. It runs Neverwinter Nights 2, and it runs The Orange Box, both with ease. The reason it will not run DR? The network card is a useless piece of **** excuse for electronics that should never have been sold in any decent store anywhere.

I am currently playing DR on a four years old Compaq nc4010 laptop, and there I have no lag whatsoever.

Carnage's suggestions are great. They will take care of almost every software cause of lag you will run into. If they don't help however, take a long, close look at your hardware.

Windows built in defrag is really not good so it's good to use one of the free ones from either Auslogics (Disk Defrag) or Defraggler. Auslogics also have a Registry Defrag who scans and fixes your registry for you. Just make sure you make a copy of your old during the process.

Build 147 has some significant graphics engine optimizations that will really help performance on low-end cards. It's really quite impressive.

Even more than we've already seen in 145 and 146? That's great news!

Note to self, get before-picture screenshots from the laptop.
