The little things that drive us nuts...
vB post 138121 - 09/13/08 01:11 PM

...co-workers who show up right next to my elbow, making a point of getting as far into my cube as possible. Apparently they've never heard of the concept "personal space". And while crowding me in that very uncomfortable way, without a "good morning Khaz" or "how are you today Khaz?", or even--and this is the kicker that makes me want to swing that elbow they are standing so close to right into solar plexus--a "do you have moment to spare, and would you mind helping me for a second?"

If it was a car problem, it would never occur to them to be rude or inconsiderate in any way to the mechanic. But with computer problems, I'm supposed to immediately drop everything, listen closely, and then help you out right away? Because I have nothing else to do and don't mind in the least, right? That is how it works when you know nothing about how computers work and I know more than you, right?

Here. Let me show you something cool. When you come home to that problem computer, start it up and tap on F8 until you come to a menu that lets you boot to a command prompt. At that command prompt, type in "Format C:\" and hit Enter. That will remove all problem files and viruses from your hard drive. Guranteed.

One of these days I will snap and offer that as a solution, just to keep people like these co-workers from ever bothering me again. Except... I have to face them and our mutual supervisor at work again on Monday, so for now I don't have a lot of options other than to just keep up with them...

I had to vent. I feel better now. Thanks for listening. Now move along, nothing to see here. And don't try that command prompt thing at home, kids. Dad will ground you for breaking his DR computer.

.......Was that supposed to be a joke or a friendly, good-hearted brush off?

I meant it as a joke. You're free to take it however you want though.

Yes, work is slow and boring today, and I would rather not be here.

Just do what I do when I'm bored...let your mind wander off somewhere. That's basically how I lost 7 hours of one day, 1-2 years ago.

I was in the bus when I came and 5 minutes later I was back in the bus, headed back home. No kidding...

That's what I was doing, until my annoying co-workers started showing up asking dumb questions ever 15 minutes.

So instead I'm here in the forums, looking for entertainment.

Oh wow, basically you have another guy ninja replying to your thread and another one, discussing the "finer" points of social DR gameplay...

THIS is your idea of entertainment? =/

You realize there is one other explanation, right? They read your posts, and they decide you're not worth their time, and go someplace else. People do that to me a lot in world chat.

I'm in Mountain Time, so it's ten minutes past noon here now. I get out in another two hours. Two long, long hours....

Two long hours...with no one to talk to but your co-worker pests and someone you don't even know who gets ignored over the forums (Read <---- loser).

Personally, if I was you, I'd choose the gun.

I never promised it would, all I promised was that it would remove any virus you might have on your hard drive. Which it did, I might add.

thanks!

Hope you feel better at work I also get annoyed when people expect me to fix all their computer problems at the drop of a dime just because I understand how to turn one on.

In all fairness, far above 90% of my coworkers are great. It's just these two people who irritate the **** out of me. The others are outstanding... I wouldn't have a working DR-capable laptop today if not for a couple of smart coworkers with friends in other departments. I love those guys, and I love working in what essentially is a Geek Central. I just wish these two would leave me the **** alone.

You could try to use the time you spend fixing their problems by telling stories about how you collect dog feces to make sculptures of the nativity scene, or about how you've had to soak your feet in a discoloring powder solution since you were young to fight a chronic and severe foot fungus. Maybe they would then decide to bother you less often.

You know, the worst part is these people would probably think I was serious. They're very... gullible.
