Official KingofCarnage is sorry thread
vB post 137759 - 09/11/08 07:59 PM

Well Ive been thinking alot about my actions lately. I realize I have been a jerk and should think my actions through. I also realize my attitude toward some of our newer players has been less than optimistic. For these actions I apologize.
For threats of reports just to end an argument, I apologize. I realize I have made nearly all of the regulars of world 7 angry. I argue there sometimes provoking people for no reason, I am sorry for that. My ways of calling people "cowards" on pvp because they kite...Im sorry for that also. I play the way I want to play why can't you.
I am no longer going to be the same as I was before. I don't want to be hated anymore. I would rather be able to come online and be welcomed.

If I have missed something I am sorry. I truly am tired of this gameplaystyle. Forgive me or not apologizing is all I can do.

Wow, it takes a big man to punk out like that. Juuuuuuust kidding.

I've no clue about the situations described, but that's pretty mature and sincere of you. Hope the people it's intended for take it to heart.

I was thinking the same thing. If this is genuine, it''s a mature and very brave thing to do. Kudos.

I believe that's the crux of the problem:

You seem to be frustrated that people have a pvp tactic that works against you, and seem to want people to conform to your playstyle, creating angst that manifests itself by (as you said) "arguing and provoking people for no reason", but as evidenced by your post, there IS an underlying reason...

Thank you for visiting the online psychiatric forum of Doctor BigFatKlingon, MD, PhD, yadda yadda yadda... That will be $350(US), since online psychiatric therapy is not covered under your insurance plan.

On a side note, I think that your post is a good step toward mending bridges with folks. WTG!

He or anyone may not owe anything to anyone on the internet, but it doesn't mean people cannot be respectful and polite. Which he is trying to do and has decided on his own to offer apologizes to those he feels he has angered or wronged in some way; which I too find mature and genuine. Respect doesn't have to just be given when you're face to face with someone, it can be show in many ways and through many mediums of communication. Obviously, KoC felt that he wanted to change how people on the game he likes to play perceived him to be. We're small community of players and it doesn't hurt to try and make amends, as it can get pretty lonely when no one feels as though they wish to talk or play the game with you anymore.

Well, I'm pretty cool with playing alone. It's not like people open up groups anymore...and when I send a polite tell asking them if they would be interested in grouping, I find they've set themselves on busy...

Now, I wasn't talking about DR solely when I said "The Internet is VERY serious business *wink", but you have to admit...

People, behind their monitors in their rooms...can often be assholes. I have seen and experienced this, from illiterate flamers in Exteel to Internet elitist trash here (though civil, mature people overshadow the above mentioned group).

Now, in my opinion, you don't even owe respect to someone in real life, before (or even after) you meet them, so imagine the Internet then. Not only is it stupid to get upset over a load of pixels forming offensive words on your account, written by someone you don't see or hear, but it's also stupid sometimes to expect to be respected over the Internet.

People even lie about their age and gender. That's disgusting and perverse. That wouldn't happen in real life, now would it?

Bad attitudes also get a pretty neat buff here. Realizing you're safe behind your PC and all. Like people laying pathetic empty threats on your head and tossing in a few comments about your heritage and family.

It's okay he wants to apologize, but take my advice, don't take it too seriously, any of you. We really don't know each other after all...it's like having a group of a dozen strangers stop in the middle of the street and start discussing various subjects, without even knowing the guy next to you might be hot-headed enough to smash your face if you imply his opinion is plain idiotic.

Sad, humorous, but true...

That being said, it's still not entirely unrealistic to expect basic courtesy from a stranger on the street.

The people behind the monitors, whoever they are and whatever they do, are still real human beings, and I've found that it makes life online a little easier to remember that simple fact.

Don't act surprised. A lot of people do that, partially because they don't want to listen to trash in /w chat, spamming in /market chat or some guy bragging how he got a super uber RB from Abaddon, like he deserves a medal. The other half put themselves on busy because they either don't like getting invited into groups or to just freely run their mouths in /w chat about rubbish that makes no sense whatsoever without fear of someone telling them they're acting like idiots in a PM. No, these guys like it public.

I know, I was being sarcastic. "Doesn't everybody already ignore those channels?", though I was actually thinking of the ones who go Busy so they won't have to deal with random unexpected group invites, tells from nagging noobs who want either items or powerlevelling, and of course, PMs from the strange people who spend their time trolling the online list on PvE servers and harrassing people on them to come PvP with them.

Sorry if it wasn't clear I was joking...

Well, in my opinion, busy shouldn't be used like that. If someone's bothering you, put them on ignore 'till they leave you alone, then take them off.

I consider it rather rude when someone puts themself on busy for no reason whatsoever.

As for invites...I was bored one day and politely asked a certain player if she would group with me, and guess what...it was fun. So no, not everyone who asks to group with you is an annoying pest who probably doesn't know squat about grammar/spelling and makes lame jokes all the time. Besides, wasn't it you who posted a topic about how people never open up groups anymore and generally show no interest in grouping?

Really, if someone's fun, but is on busy, I really don't feel like shouting over /w chat if they would group with me. Forcing someone to do so because you fancy yourself being out of others' reach in a way is a bit rude IMO.

It's like I'm constantly asking you if you wanna go hang out or see a movie, 'cept you don't hear a thing 'till I scream it out for everyone to hear.

I never said that, and yes, that was me.

But unless you know everything about when I set to Busy and when I'm not, then you can't even know if any of what you just said applies to me, or if it applies to me some of the time but not the rest of the time, or if it doesn't apply at all.

One of the good things with DR is that it doesn't force players to group in order to be able to play the game, do quests, or advance in levels. It's an option that is there for those who want to do it, when they want to, and for the rest of us, it is fun when the mood strikes us. And when I don't feel like being overly social, or when I don't feel like investing an hour or so grouping, then I don't have to.

Again, I wasn't referring to just you. You should know by now I generalize quite a bit. But when I see all those people saying they put themselves on busy with excuses such as "to avoid random invites"...really, who says the guy who could invite you because he's bored is annoying/lame/idiotic? It almost sounds as if that's EXACTLY what they think since they do a move that basically says "I don't want to talk to you".

Also leaves a pretty bad impression, at least on me, when you put yourself on busy and proceed to run your mouth and spam idiotic crap and things from your personal life no one gives a damn about on /w chat. So you either have to tell that person to STFU and play, which causes drama or ignore them to spare yourself the amount of idiotism they display publicly. Because, of course, they're on busy and you cannot tell them politely to stop hogging /w chat.

Some fine examples I've seen...like this guy talking in /w chat about how he needs to shave...

Or this other tool turning a lame joke into a whole bloody story.

A group of imbeciles asking for a cookie after they've gotten a Vis'kar's Bilespitter from Abaddon.

The list goes on...

That's where you lost me... Why would you bother being polite to them in the first place?

Yes, I use the ignore function very liberally.

No, no. That part didn't lose me. The part two sentences later, where you seemed to want to ability to ask them politely is what has me confused. As if that is the preferred option...?

Nope. I see me as such a person.

I see you as someone who think that sort of behavior is pointless, and who would prefer to send a PM to someone rather than flame them in world chat. I usually don't bother with the PMs, I just /ignore the ones that bother me. Or if I am very bored, I start poking the troll with a sharp stick, just for the fun of it.
