There is no "best" answer. You will get people saying shadow is better and people saying fire is better. Just go with what works best for YOU. Sounds like you already have an idea anyway.

I was under the impression...
vB post 137327 - 09/09/08 12:40 AM

I was under the impression that Shadow Bolt is more damaging than Fire Bolt is... Shadow Bolt has a very high minimum damage and decent maximum damage, Fire Bolt has a very high maximum damage but almost negligible minimum damage. On average, Shadow Bolt is considerably more damaging than Fire Bolt is... not taking into account Fire Bolt's increased Crit Chance, of course; which I consider to be negligible (though I may be wrong).

Not sure if PvP has changed since I've last participated in it, but I believe that Shadow was suited for out-dpsing and general ownage, while Fire Bolt is more suited for strategic kiting and taking down runners, due to longer range and faster bolt speed... although perhaps Shadow Bolt is better for runners, I don't know; I lag too much for Shadow Bolt to work well against runners.

But, wouldn't it be better to bring both Shadow and Fire gear, so you can switch elements in a match? Gives you more dexterity (especially against people with invincible-resistance gear).

Seems like it, my fire is much much higher then my shadow. But like I said, trying to get a good feel for what I want for him.

Looking at Wyenn in in a char-viewer tells you have higher Fire Bonus on your gear than you got Shadow Bonus, thus you do more damage with Fire. As you might get gear who gives you a better Shadow Bonus, you might want to consider to change to that.

Look for items with "Dreary" (shadow) or "Super Heated" (fire) in the title, those usually have the highest damage to that type.
Ice items are called "Chilled".
