Hurricane
vB post 136367 - 08/31/08 03:50 PM

I just wanted to offer well wishes to anyone living in or around New Orleans and the other areas that will be affected (or has family living around there) in regards to the coming Hurricane. Be safe and careful out there.

Bah. I had to stay during Katrina. I will sit this one out too. Let me see if my supplies are ready... Smokes and a case of beer. Ok, bring on the storm.

God help all those suffering from one of the storms down there. Seems like somthin goes wrong down there evry time hurricane season starts. No offense ta all florida people, but it just seams stoopid to stay in a place were hurricanes destroy your home and come back with a new pair of sunglasses and a bathing suit to start all over.

Lets see,
Couple Liters of Vodka - check
Boxs of Cereal and Chips - Check
Weather-torn basement of many hurricanes - Check
Ridiculously Huge generator of enormous power - Check
Half-finished gaming computer of poverty - Check
Weather-proof Satelitte Internet of the Comets - Check
Smoking peripherals of the DR cannabis humanoid - Check

I'd say we are all good to go then.

(guess I shouldn't have opened the vodka after I ate, but the chips and cereal just made the liqour look pretty.)

Well, this time the storm did not head towards Florida, it hit the Gulf Coast near New Orleans, Louisiana and Mississippi and headed in the direction of Texas, I believe. In defense of those that come back after hard times, it's usually because that is their home, where they have lived for quite some time or perhaps they can't afford to live anywhere else. It's really a personal choice, as there are plenty of potential hazards almost anywhere you choose to reside. As my family is station here in Tampa, Florida serving our country in the US Army; we only live here temporarily, as do most of the men and women serving throughout the state. We have to come back. When Tropical Storm Fay was on its path towards Tampa, originally, it was an eye widening experience. The people down here do not take any potentially dangerous storm or the return to their homes lightly. I'm originally from Southern California and that is where a good majority of my family still lives; there is always a threat of earthquakes, but that doesn't mean they simply stop living their lives.

Yeah even in the peaceful lands of my home. You still have to worry about rogue dear trying to take out your car and possibly your life.

Again I say no offense, just saying that there are better/safer places than Florida (although I must say the summers there are better than were I am).

I'm sure you don't mean any offense, but you can't say something like "it seems stupid" and not expect someone to respond...

ok, so, take this: you're a freind to a 450 pound girl, and she only gains weight - should you let her die of high colestoral or say "no offense, but your fat and need to lose weight"? not that i'm saying ppl from florida are fat - which there not - it's just that when you got a state that just got hit by a tropical storm and a hurican, with more probobly on the way (not including the ones already formed, i'm talking about ones a year from no, cause you almost positively know there coming) it dosen't realy make sense to stay in that place. Now, I can understand people with situations like LadyV having to stay, but with people who have a choice, look at new orleans and know that within the next 5 years that kind of a hurricane could very likely come your way.

But for those who stay in the summers when there aren's any hurricanes, good choice.

If we were to take your logic, then we pretty much couldn't live anywhere really. I would hazard to say that every place in the world has its on inherent dangers. The reason I used California as another example was because there is always the potential for an earthquake ("the big one") to happen at any given time; therefore, everyone there should move? So they all move... let's see to Wisconsin. Now there are some huge winter storms there. So that is deemed too dangerous and everyone moves to where? Ohio, Tennessee, Nebraska??? You mean places that have tornado seasons? So, like I said, there is no completely safe place to live. I'm just not sure where you think everyone who lives in a potentially dangerous place (which is pretty much any place) should actually live? I mean tsunami's happen a lot in the southeast Asia, perhaps everyone from China and Japan down should move somewhere else too?

I realize that your intentions were good, and frankly, I doubt I'll ever make thread like this again, but it's important to be careful how we say things.

As a side note, Florida was not just hit with a Tropical Storm and then a Hurricane. We were hit in multiple places by Tropical Storm Fay and Hurricane Gustav never came near us and went towards the New Orleans-Mississippi Gulf Coast and then towards Texas. Tropical Storm Hanna will not really effect us either and will probably make landfall in either northern Georgia or South Carolina. Now Hurricane Ike is what I'm a little concerned about, but that I'll have to wait on.

but still, it matters not wether or not i was trying to offend someone, what matters is that there are hurricanes comin and we all need to pray, hope, wish, or watever it is you do that no one loses too much.

God help Florida and all those related to residents of Florida.

Southeastern Michigan, FTW!!!!!
(mildish winters (less than a foot of snow during most 'storms', and no major tornados (at least for the past 10 years or so). Warm summers (around 90 degrees or so), seasonal changes (you can actually watch the leaves on the trees turn colors!!! (OMG THEY'RE LIKE RAINBOWS!!!), and best of all, no hurricanes, tropical storms, monsoons, tsunamis, or other major 'freak of nature'-type of weather.)

Worst weather we seem to have is the occasional rain/thunderstorm, and mosquitos in the summertime (but they can be handled with an ample supply of "Cutter")

So--who wants to join the new Dungeon Runners Commune?

You have just shot yourself in the foot. Now everyone who does not wish to live in a potentially problematic area will move to Michigan! Prepare for extreme overpopulation, poverty, crime, pollution, etc.

Sorry for joking around on such a serious topic. It is the only way I know how to handle life and how I go through it.

I really do wish you well. May you see the fairest weather. Even when it was supposed to be at it worst. I wish that on anyone else too. May you all never be out of house and home. Homeless is not a very nice way to live. Though the bear is free.

Sort of...it's more like 2/3 of the way between Lansing and Ann Arbor...about 40-50 miles west from me.

I'm in Sterling Heights (about 20 miles north of Detroit),
and we actually have to go SOUTH to get to Canada from here.
