At this time, it is unknown, in general. Recently there were some changes within the development team, so it may be a while still. Keep and eye on the announcements section of the forum for updates.

Um, are the developers going to arrange it where you have to pay real money for the best gear like the other freebie mmos? Frankly speaking I hate it in those games, i can't say I'm too pleased at the thought of it happening here.

Actually, that is already the case. While some of the high end items for purps and RB's are non member, the majority is membership only. So technically, you already have to pay real money to get the best gear in the game. As far as what would be implemented for a cash shop, not sure what kind of items they would come up with to put in there.

I really hope that this game never has any type of NC coin, why you might ask, well to me playing a game online is like a second life or an alternate life where you earn what have in the game IN THE GAME, this allows all people weather rich or not to have the same advantage and disadvantages in their online persona. The implementing of NC coin might be a good idea for the company to make extra cash but it would take a lot of the pride in playing to 100 and earning your gear away, even now it is far too easy for people to give items to others, I myself have done it, and although I do like to see good items I can't use to be used by someone, I also see that the challenge of finding good gear and working hard to get it, is mostly gone, there is also the twink factor in pvp which allows anyone to make a lvl 10 player, beg for lvl 10 rb gear and bam you are a rockin pvper. Allowing perks or other custom gear to be bought rather than earned is IMO going to ruin the whole second life feeling of online gaming.

All items should be available to membership paying customers without any extra cost for custom content. Please do not flame me for this post as it is only my opinion and I would welcome any comments that could open my eyes as to why NC coin would be a good thing.

I agree with most of what you're saying, as I can't imagine any reason why NCCoins would add anything to the game, other than a potentially small increase in profits from those players who are either too lazy, inept, or stupid to actually play the game to get their gear.

In fact, I'd like to see them go even a step further and entirely get rid of the ability to trade, making it so that you really did have to EARN the gear you have/use by virtue of actually playing the game--not getting gear as a result of 'twinking', begging, or some other act of kindness from someone who just tossed out a ton of items on the ground, or simply gave you something.

I don't see that as happening, but I wouldn't miss it one single bit if they eliminated trading altogether--that sure would get rid of all the useless 'rainbow spam' of people wanting to trade items.

As I have said before, I hope the coin system is used for nonessential game features. For example, everybody and their gnome's mom wants different races, armor color, etc. This way DR can make more money, players can have their bells and whistles and other players will not be penalized for not spending extra cash.

I win Disney Land!

As I recall, froobs get access to 5% of purps and rainbows. So we are only paying for the ability to use them. We are not paying for the item itself.

As for the coins, it would make more sense to me if they added useless things like skins (someone here may have already mentioned this). And possibly, additional character appearance features like new faces, etc. I can't stand those korean mmos because you have to pay real cash for the best items available.

For the sake of clarification:

1) The percent that an item will can be equipped by a non-member on drop is:
  • Yellows and lower: 100%
  • Purples: 25%
  • Rainbows: 5%
2) All items from KC Vendors, including Purple and Rainbow Sam are 100% usable by whomever redeems coins for the items, even non-members.
  • The KC items cost more for non-members - IMO, this is because it was too easy for non-members to farm KCs and "skittle out" their characters, thereby giving little incentive to upgrade to a paid subscription.

What Ripper said, plus that you won't be able to buy gear and stuff with NCcoins (what I've heard) but helpful stuff. Higher Exp-potions, crafting-items (there'll be crafting in the future in the forms of mini-games) and such.

If you do a cashshop do it like many other free mmorpgs.

Sell things that are cosmitic upgrades, like hair dyes or armor dyes or something like that... Those are kewl.

Even do a couple things here and there that might be needed for like a pet quest or something, but nothing game breaking.

I should be able to become a member and stay comeptive with those that are just dropping a bunch of money in the cash shop.

Microtransactions of some type are on the drawing board. They're a ways out though. The kinds of things we would sell are not totally decided... but they will make the game better for folks that want to trade money for time.

I waiting on NcCoins because one of the ideas was upgrading players' rainbows. I got rainbows I would love to upgrade. The rainbows I got because fellow players have gave me said items. I'm not having no luck getting them as drops and would love to upgrade the ones I have.

Because that makes it so all you have to do to get the best gear is pay. The exact thing everyone is protesting. You should have to earn the gear. You want cosmetics and cool look stuff or small trinkets fine. But high end gear should have to be earned.

No matter what game, when microtransactions gets introduced it'll get loads of people complaining and disliking it, but like all major changes to a game they'll get used to it and soon don't have anything against it at all.
Since they still don't know exactly what will be sold there, there's no use in taking sides yet.

Paying to upgrade your own soulbound rainbows is twinking or gamebreaking? I think you are misunderstanding what I asking about. All I want to bug a redname about was the upgrading your own soulbound items is still on the table and a redname has answer with a big maybe. Thanks Stephn. Good luck with Chuck 4

I could see spending a LOT of King's Coins to upgrade soulbound items, but I'm still steadfastly against the idea of having a system that allows you to pay to obtain better gear (other than a subscription that gives everyone equal access to content).

Of course, that's my opinion, and if yours differs, then I will have to kill you--oh wait...no, that's not right--if your opinion differs, that's cool too. (Still having problems adjusting to Human etiquette.)

As it's been said in previous posts--cosmetic graphics are one thing--buying your way through the game are entirely another.

This debate has gone on for years with many types of games. Many people do not understand that online games is a business. Players usually resort to selfish requests to extend their entertainment (non)-dollar. Put it into perspective:

The poor spend time to save money
These are people who cannot (or will not) spend money on an online game. This also includes potential paying players who want to try out the game. This is a form of marketing and a way to keep the game active to build the community. It is not a bad thing, but it doesn't pay the bills. A company wants to be rewarded for its work, so methods of revenue streams are developed either through the player-base or external sources (ie advertising). A player may invest lots of time in the game, but it doesn't necessarily help the company.

The rich spend money to save time
Players who pay for playing the game is the lifeblood of a company. World of Warcraft, Everquest and many online games understood long ago that revenue streams must be established from the player-base. Paying players have more privileges and have the capability to obtain the best equipment with less time than non-paying characters. But, there is still time invested to build up your game character, skills, resources, etc.

The super-rich spends even more money to save more time
Some people have too much money and can't be bothered to spend any time constructing a character. Game companies realized there is a growing demand for "fully-ready" characters and "virtual" objects. Buying and trading "virtual" gold, equipment, resources and game accounts is a potential source of large revenue. Many companies resisted the "virtual" black market (game players would sell "virtual" items for real life cash), but it is such a large market and potentially lucrative if it can be harnessed. "Micro-transactions" is the latest attempt for companies to legalize this black market (and make themselves rich).

The poor/rich/super-rich divide
Non-paying players (the poor) will always feel sub-par compared to other players. Paying players (the rich) will always look down upon non-paying players because they won't shell out a few dollars. Paying players who bought the best stuff in the game with real cash (the super-rich) is resented by everyone. The only difference between these monetary cultural dividers is time and effort.

No fair, life is hard
In an ideal world, lots of "super-rich" players would play the game and the game company would be happy. In reality, the paying and non-paying players dominate the gaming landscape. The super-rich players can turn a game upside-down with their antics, especially in Player versus Player (PVP). The super-rich can dominate leader-boards, kill everyone, conquer the best territory and simply make the game miserable for others. This can economically hurt the company if it drives players away from the game. But if the company can manage these super-rich players while accommodating the existing player-base, it's a very profitable venture. There are a number of ways to do this, but i'm bored of typing and nobody pays me enough to type more.

Sorry but an Itemshop ???
I would understand if they would rise the "membership" about $1 - $3 and I would also understand that but an Itemshop...
That is one of the points I REALLY love in DR. You don't have ppl that are only ubber because they poop their money.
$5 or $15 for retail is something everyone can afford and is no real deal for such a great game but putting in new options that are only available to people that pay more and more is not ok. DR isn't a game like that and, honestly, should not ever get that way.

Raise the membership or make 2 membershipments but don't integrate some damn shop, I beg of you...

edit: The only thing, that would be okay in my thoughts, would be if you also can afford everything with ingame possibilities, like Mythos wanted to do.

Everything I've heard and seen the Devs write about this point to that you won't be able to buy your way through the game with RB's and all that. Will probably be cosmetic stuff, some potions maybe, things like that. Give them a chance to explain more before jumping to conclusions. Also, this feature is probably far off in the future still.

I know, but I still know really LOTS of games that have gone from free/membership to itemshop and it was always the same.
Mythos was the first game to be different, because you would have had the chance to buy the "CASH" with ingame Gold too.
That would be a way I would find okay but as stated, the other games that've gone the IS-way are all gone worse

I love DR way too much as I want to see this happen here too.

I enjoy to game as is, I did buy the box set. My kids like the gnome and save me time from going into town and selling. But as far as free play game this beat Priate and Maplestory hands down. I am able to play with my kids and my guild. So from me do not turn this into Exteel.

Not to over-analyze, but Steve's statement makes it sound, to me, like items (including gear) might be made available. What do people spend the most time doing? Leveling and farming. I suppose a level potion could be added (hopefully for a ridiculous price, if at all) and rb gear. Of course, I might be way off, but that's how it reads to me.

Either way, I'm not going to "hang the juror with the innocent," to quote M.J. Keenan.

Yeah but it's the same comparison like apples and strawberries ^^
But mythos isn't totally dead. It is atm only on hold and will come back. If not with Roper, it will via Namco-Bandai. Mythos has the potential of being new Diablo. Lots of players would even, atm, play Mythos instead of D3 if they would have the choice. :>

Um, no it isn't at all anything like that.
By paying $5 a month your not buying items off a store shelf, you still have to play the game, find the item, level so you can use the item, etc etc.

If the NCCoin is added the way I think it would be it would mean that anyone could go to a online shop buy the very best gear for their character without playing at all then go and roast everyone in PvP.

It would also turn PvP into a virtual Ebay, someone starts losing, they can go to the NCStore and buy the Uber Sword of Amazing Godliness and own all the players who actually... umm.. play the game.

I would open up the game to the sort of people who like to buy a game, get all the uber loot and then say "I'm leeter then you! nobody can beat me in PvP!!!". I think their called "@ssholes". Not to mention that they don't stay with the game, don't contribute anything to the community and most likely drive off quality players who care about the game.
