Bling Gnome sightings
vB post 135143 - 08/24/08 11:22 AM

Sightings? These little guys are all over the place. Can't walk 3 steps in town with out accidentally tripping on a Bling Gnome. Glad to see so many people are buying the box.

Re: Poll

I cancelled all my other PlayNC accounts (tabula rasa (too much of a grind to level yet another toon), city of heroes/villians (too many spammers selling stuff), and Lineage II (just too many darn PK'ers), and Dungeon Runners is the only game I still 'pay to play' (and quite willingly, I might add).

Re: Bling Gnomes

AKA: How to get 2.5x more gold!!!!!!

Ok, the bling gnome was cute at first, a neat symbol of having bought the retail version of the game...HOWEVER, I've come to realize that the Bling Gnome is just a hotkey slot sucking piece of crap! Yes, it's true! Here's why:
  • The lil' guy takes a 60% cut of what you could sell an item for at a vendor.
  • 87+ levels so far (for me anyway) and ZERO drops other than gold.
  • (others have reported an extremely rare purple or rainbow but not many...)
  • He takes up a hotkey slot that could be used for something more useful to kill mobs, or buff yourself, etc.
So other than 'eye-candy', he's not all that useful...Yeah, he picks up your money automatically, but really--who's THAT lazy? Is having a buttler (pun intended) to pick up your coins THAT useful? 1 click and you can pick them up yourself! Yeah, you tend to leave the green & white items on the ground, but if you sell the yellow and blue junk you get, you get 2.5x more gold!!!

"How's that?", you might ask.

Well, here's how:
  • A healing or mana potion sells to a vendor for 25 gold.
  • The bling gnome will 'convert' it, and give you 10 gold.
  • Therefore, the bling gnome gives you 40% of what you could get for it, meaning his 'cut' is 60%.
  • By selling at the merchant, you actually are making 2.5 times the amount of gold you would have gotten if you'd 'bling gnomed' the item.
Extrapolating this theory, if you're getting let's say 10000 gold on each activation, you'd be making about 25,000 gold by selling those same items.

So: In conclusion, Bling Gnomes really really suck.

...your money.

Do yourself a favor and pick up your own money, and use a simple waypoint scroll to shuttle back to town to sell...it takes 15 seconds, and gets you 2.5x more gold for each trip.

Of course, if speed killing is your objective, and you don't mind the extortion the bling gnome is getting away with, feel free to go on getting ripped off.

At lvl 55 i have a Bling Gnome, and i have gotten 2 rb drops, and over 10 purple drops, i myself think that it is wor th it, cause who has the time to pick up all the blues and yellows also, when the majority of my time i spend farming bosses.

I definately think you should have the bling gnome, although i don't think it should take up a skill spot, but if that's the sacrifice i have to make then oh well.

Sorry If I didn't explain myself to well in the first post.

I love Dungeon Runners. Started playing it as soon as I had a chance. This thread was meant in a weird/deformed way to show my love of this game.

It was what first made me aware of PlayNC and then of EXteel. I loved Dungeon Runners enough to subscribe to it twice using game time cards. I met plenty of characters in the game and have enjoyed knowing them. I have enjoyed simplistic easy way of building characters , that was built into this game.

Anyone else better at writing testimonials? I suck at it!!!

I love this game too. Sometimes I get bored and head to other games, but end up right back here. I could play this game for hours on end. In fact, I do! I just love it, and despite recent bad news from up top, I still will play this game until I or the Game goes to the grave!

As for biting on the Bling Gnome debate, my bottom-line opinion is: You didn't pay exclusively for the bling gnome, and in my mind, it was a free addition to the already cheaper-than-usual 20$ fee for 6 months; Its for the lazy people, and if you farm bosses all day, i'm sure it saves you a lot of time and when you save time, you can do more runs, to get more uber loot!

My tests came out a little different. Are you guessing or did you actually compare a few items? I found that the gnome takes only 50%, unless you consistently sell to the Amazon, which few bother to do. I admit that's still a big chunk, so I tend to fill up my inventory before I convert.

But most of us don't bother with blues and greens, so that's bonus money as far as I'm concerned. Ultimately, Bogey's statistics seem to hold up: Subtracting the gnome cut, and adding the bonus bucks, the average boss run is going to pull 11% less than without the gnome -- but for that 11%, the player cuts the run time by 25% (guessing) by not picking up coin and running to town 2 times (or more).

I haven't seen any rbs outta the gnome, but I'm up to about 15 purples.

I can take or leave the gnome when I'm questing on norm, but for boss runs, the gnome just makes sense.

Klingon I see your issue. It sounds like you have him equipped all the time. Take him off your skill bar while training!
Also the rainbow drops. Dont just convert one or two items at a time. Very rare to get a RB that way.
I have gotten 5 rbs from my gnome out of 11 balzy runs. Your thinkin thats bad correct? NO considering each run gave me a mil gold and at least one rb without gnome.
Its not a matter of the gnome being useless.

.....its more a matter a loss of pure common sense :/
