I've got plenty to suggest...
vB post 134077 - 08/16/08 10:41 AM

Ok, I'm quite a bit of suggestions that I've thought of and also have had members think of.

So, lets see how well these go over...

- GOLD TRADE! -

Ya, a very common and well-wanted suggestion that I think everyone wants. Not much to explain here...

- BLING GNOME COOLDOWN -

I've a couple people suggest they wanted zero cooldown on the bling gnome, and I find that reasonable...

- BETTER and/or NEW MONSTER/DUNGEON DESIGNS -

I had someone suggest that they wanted some new dungeon designs, not just a new dungeon that looks like the other ones with everything the same but the name...
Also, some new monsters would be cool as well!

- MOUNTS! -

A common topic. Have players compelte a quest, or something similiar to the way you get Shadow Wargs, and then have the reward be a mount, such as a horse, a llama, a pig....Knowing DR, they could fish out something pretty cool along the lines on this...

- GUILD ALLIANCES/ALLIANCE CHAT -

This probably is already covered in upcoming Chunk 4, but I'd like to post it here since there is a chance that it's not covered yet...Guild Alliances. Let the guilds be able to be allies with one another and have an ally chat for easy alliance communication!

That's all the suggestion I've got so far! I'd like to hear some comments!

Most of your suggestions or ones very similar have been discussed at length, so for that I would suggest the search function. I would also suggest checking out idearunners.com, as there are lots of suggestions on there and you can add input there as well.

As for gold trading, I know that the devs have always been against this and that many of us agree with them. They have always said that gold trading would never be instituted. I would garner that your "everyone" that wants this falls under the newer side of playing the game and have yet to realize that gold is fairly easy to come by, since all you have to do is go play the game.

Gold Trade - Will never happen (or so I hope). Gold grows really fast and having it non-tradable keeps all the "buy gold at www-you're_screwed-com" spambots away.

Bling Gnome Cooldown - I agree that 45 sec is a bit much, but I think 30 sec would be just perfect. Have to be SOME kinda cooldown to it.

Monster / Dungeon Designs - There were quite a bunch new monster-designs in the last chunk and in the next (coming within like 1-5 weeks) there'll be a new dungeon design. It's all in the patch-notes.

Mounts - Dungeons are short and fast. Mounts would be fun but... Spirit of the Hare is more than enough.

Guilds - Guild chat I know will come. Alliences will probably come in a future build.

Gold Trade- No No No Never Myself and a ton of older players will leave then. Gold trade encourages spam bots which are the devil and Stephen has said as long as he is in charge no gold trading ever.

Bling Gnome Cooldown- 30 seconds is reasonable but 45 is not game breaking to me.

New dungeons are added each chuck so wait a few and with the new chunk that will be solved.

Mounts- What use is a mount in a game full of nothing but instances??? Travel does not exist so what you want to go though the dungeon faster and skip all the looty goodness?

Gold Trade: NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! If gold trade is inserted into the game you will have people bothering you every 5 seconds asking for gold, and i think my iggy list would hit 500. KC trading might be ok but i think that even that could be bad.

Bling Gnome Cooldown: I definately think that 45 seconds is to much, but there needs to be some kind of cooldown, somewhere in between 15 and 30 seconds would be much more reasonable.

Mounts: Mounts might be cool but i idk, it doesn't really seem like a DR thing.

Gold trade: Terrible, terrible, terrible idea. As said over and over in this topic, gold spam bots are the worst. Gold is easily abundant in this game.

Bling Gnome Cooldown: I honestly don't think there should be one. I don't even think it should take up a skill slot. Just my opinion. Its not like it gives you any advantage over other players except that it saves time.

New dungeons: There is a new chunk coming.

Mounts: Meh, the game is not that big. It might make for a cool novelty or quest line. You could do that with pets or maybe special visual upgrades to armor.

But hey, even if most were against most of your suggestions this time: Don't let this discourage you coming with more. It is we players who make Dungeon Runners to what it is and you posting this much suggestions while being this new to the game, and explaining them good as you did, you're bound to come up with some pretty sweet suggestions in the future.

I am in complete agreement with everything you write. As with all others who replied, I think gold trade is a terrible idea and that Stephen should stick to his guns on this one.

Mostly I agree that Bling Gnome cool down should be reduced or eliminated and that the Gnome should NOT be taking up a skill slot. There are more new skills being introduced and not enough room as it is. I spend more time swapping skills around for different enemy types than I do exploring. I really like DR, but that is the one thing that will probably keep me from playing as long as I would like.

I really don't believe mounts are needed in a world of this scope.

vB post 134169 - 08/16/08 09:06 PM

I'd have to disagree with your initial assertation that 'everyone' wants the ability to trade gold.

On the contrairy, most players of Dungeon Runners HATE the concept of gold trading for many reasons, having seen them firsthand on other MMO's, such as:
  • Beggars: These people hang around in main cities/population centers, and constantly spam all channels with messages asking players to give them money because they're too lazy to actually PLAY the game and earn it. The truly obnoxious ones will send you private tells out of nowhere asking for money.
  • Gold Farmers: These people are the mindless drones that play the game for the sole purpose of making gold to sell to other players for real currency. Considered by many to be the bane of most MMO's.
  • Gold Selling Spammers: These are the truely obnoxious players that constantly spam all channels telling you to go to a website to purchase gold for real currency. If banned, they simply make another account, and continue their abuse of the chat channels
  • Twinking: A lot of people take pride in the fact that in Dungeon Runners, for the most part, you have to EARN the gold to finance your character's education (learning skills). It's no free ride, and it does give one a sense of accomplishment to actually have to play the game and earn what you get.
As for transferring 'gold' to other players, if you really need to give another player some money, you can always trade them items, and then they can simply go sell them to a vendor.

I just have to put my 2 cents in here about gold trading. This might have already been said but most every online I know has those aweful gold selling spammers.

That would really ruin the game to see all that channel spam and I am sure it would have a negitive effect on the market prices.

I don't need to comment on gold trading as everyone else has and it would be preaching to the choir so...

I know I'm "new" but not as new as I once was, but I don't understand why a mount would be useful. If someone could tell me why they'd be a good idea (mainly the original poster) I'd love to read the reasoning for the suggestion.

I agree with both the bling gnome having a reduced cool down or none at all. Better still is no cool down, not taking up a slot in the bar and having his own settings on what to pick up and what not to (including purples). Having to keep him in the bar is almost a penalty for becoming a member. "Hey, you get a cool little guy that poops gold for you when you spend $20 to become a member. Not only that, but you get one less slot for a skill!!!"

One other suggestion I'd add, and it goes with not having the BG take up a spot, is to have a separate spot not on the bar for always active buffs like Bookworm. The 2 spots could only be used for passive skills. If you want to use more than just 2, you can still add them to your bar, but now you are dipping in to what skills and spells you have to use for damage/buffs.

I'm not the original poster, but the ONLY thing I think a mount would offer would be some sort of 'status' sort of graphic thing, maybe as a reward for completing a HUGE quest or for (stupidly) spending an insane amount of gold or King's Coins (or both) to acquire. Purely a useless graphics thing with no 'real' function (since you can easily use a waypoint scroll to get back to town, hence no 'real' need for a 'mount') Same 'theory' would hold true for 'pets, sidekicks, whatever'--money sinks for status symbols... I'm not advocating the implementation of them, just trying to offer REASONS why they MIGHT be logically considered even quasi-useful.

Figurativly speaking yes but I can think of better things to add that would symbolize status among players. Varying types of specialty equipment or cover slots that you equip "nice looking" stat-less items over your gear for personal preference and individuality which wuold cause much less lag then mounts or any "sidekicks".

This game is too closely built for mounts to have any viable use. Between the movement speed increase from gear the skill Spirit of the Hare, you will get anywhere just as afast as you need too without a mount.

The other reasoning is simple but annoying. People are used to other games having mounts or gold trading or auction houses or... You get the idea. I understand that humans are creatures of habit, but it is ridiculously hypocritical. "I want something new and different. But I want the new and different thing to be just like everything else."

So it'd be a male thing like "I have a bigger penis than you"...or in this case "I have a mount and you don't"? I understand now.

I have over 157mil in gold. I don't want to be begged for gold every time I log on.
If you'd even actually played the game you'd know that not trading gold is what sets DRs apart from crap like WoW and RuneScape.

Nice to know that you find it reasonable!
This has been suggested before, the formal reply by Stephen is that it's fine as-is.

Ugh, yes, lets turn the game into some kind of Zelda / My little pony hybrid, great *BLEEP*ing idea.

Yea, if you'd bothered to read the patch notes you'd know that, yes, guilds are coming, they will be called posses.

Ignorant posts like this really piss me off, if it wasn't for the gold trade thing I might have let it pass.

GOLD TRADE: Not gonna happen, when I first played the game the no gold-trade was the smartest thing I noticed, even the lamest free mmo has a website dedicated to selling players gold for real $, those sites end up running the show and take the power away from the creators of the game, in some games, namely uo, supposed '10 trillion dollars' in real $ of 'duped' gold was found on a number of gold-trading accounts which got banned and resulted in gold selling becoming illegal, so gold trading alone forces crackers to hack the game. The ability to trade gold doesn't by itself make a game funner, try Archlord Online if you don't believe me, it only spams the chat with gold trade sites.

BLING GNOME COOLDOWN: Just chill out, the gnome has a poop cooldown you're just gonna have to deal with it.

NEW MONSTERS/DUNGEONS: I wouldn't mind seeing this.

MOUNTS: I wouldn't mind seeing this also but I don't think it's needed.

GUILD SYSTEM: This would be cool, this is something that could really liven up the game, add a Guildtown and the ability to easily form and join guilds and a lot more players would join, add a capture the flag for guilds, or some kind of guild-only fight-off dungeon would also be cool.

Poll:

Which is worse?

1. Noob suggestions that have been posted a hunnerd times before.

2. An initial response explaining that fact to the noob, followed by a dozen other responses that say nothing new, but exist to get in a few lazy kicks to the noob's head.

Edit: Kind of in a trolly mood today, if you couldn't tell. Let's get something started...

... 3. People who actually spend time pointing out in a forum that questions have been posted 'hunnerd times before' instead of just giving the answer to a question someone asked.

Seems things would be a LOT simpler and friendlier if people didn't take one person's lack of knowledge of the game as a personal crusade to malign someone ...

<wavy transition into the flashback scene>

--Why, I remember one time on Kronos, the Klingon Homeworld, when I used to teach Klingon Martial Arts (long before I got the job writing witty fortune cookies), a young student of mine questioned me on how to properly wield a bat'leH (shown below), and suggested I was holding it improperly.

Now, I could have prolonged his ignorance of knowledge of the Techniques involved in the proper wielding of the bat'leH, making him suffer undue ridicule at the hands of the other students, but no. That would be far too much besmirchment upon his Honor, and far to cruel for even a Klingon to endure. Instead, I demonstrated the proper technique, giving him firsthand experience by eviscerating him where he stood. Lesson Learned. K'Pla!

<wavy transition back from the flashback scene>

Man, I sure am *squirrely* today.

Thought: bat'leH (2h sword) in Dungeon Runners! That'd look cool running around with one of those babies!

In response to your number three, yes people often do that, but usually it's because the questions or suggestions have been seen a lot of times. Directing them in how to use the search function is still teaching. What is it...Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime.

When it comes to questions that have been repeatedly asked, I for one, try to respond as politely and friendly as possible that they should perhaps explore the forums or use the search feature some before they start right off posting suggestions. It doesn't hurt anyone really to click around a bit and read some before posting in general actually; I think it gives you more of a feel for how the forum is.

Oh, and I wouldn't mind a weapon like that. It would look pretty damn cool running around with one.

Zzzzzz... whah? Sorry, musta dozed for a minute.

That story is worse than your "Nine of us went into the jungle that day... and nine of us came out" story. In my experience with klingons, you just need to use extra tp, and you're good to go.

Now then, back to our regularly scheduled programming. When we left off, the Arabs were back at the oasis, eating their dates...

The correct answer was:

Teach him how to fish, and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day, come home late, and will ask you what you fixed him for dinner.

How so? For example a quick search for "gold" turns up results posted back in 2007.
