I would think they were fine if I could stay logged in. Every time I close IE and come back I have to relog.

Sorry, I disagree with you. Having been a beta tester for these boards, I've seen their true potential before 'yall have, it's just gonna take some "polish" to get through the bug's I and others have mentioned in MatkT's thread before these boards will shine.

Have patience because these new boards were originally worked on by far more people then finished them today....

Yeah, I like this better in many ways, but I think it's important to be able to stay logged on so I don't have to log on every time. It's just time-wasting since I visit the forums a lot.

Seems like most other bugs is fixed so I like this version the best.

Edit: Bah, the most annoying 2 bugs is still there:
- Topics shows new posts/threads even if it were I who posted
- I do NOT wanna subscribe to every dang thread I post in and having to go to User CP to remove it after every single post.

Still, I find this forum better than the old.

Control Panel -> Edit Options

You can set your subscription settings there.

Edit: Never mind, I just noticed that's still not working. Nor is the cod in the signatures

I still agree with you though. This forum software is inherently better and superior to the old one.

Yeah, there's the e-mail notification (glad the standard-setting is off) but still: I don't wanna subscribe to every single thread I write in. I can't find a function to turn that off.

It's there though. Every other vBulletin forum I'm a member of has it, so we just need to get it enabled

What the he...! Where did my avatar go?! It looks like it vanishes when you use quick reply. Very odd.

I haven't gotten used to these forums yet so I can't give an honest reply. So far the only complaint I have is that I can't find my old forum avatar that I though looked so neat. I'm not hard to satisfy. I post things and you can read them and vice versa, so I'm happy.

Hahaha, yeah. I just tested that function. It's "gone" at first but if you go to another thread and back, then it's there.

Ratha, dang... Can't remember your old avatar. I guess I just have to make you a new one instead. PM me how you want it (movie-clip, picture and whatever).

DR FORUM FROM UBBTHREAD TO VBULLTIEN

Pros:

Better looking

Cons:
Slower for dial up users
You have to activat e before a quick reply
Firefox can't use spell shecker here
Can't stay logged on
There are little white dots around the buttons like "Post reply" "new posts in thred" "new thread" etc...

That's all I can think of

A few comments:

1) The font on the index page is small for me. When I increase text size, everything else seems to big (including this quick response)
2) I really liked the 'up index' button on the old forum which allowed me to quickly move up after posting
3) I love the quick reply option

We "needed" these new forums, why? I don't like having to login everytime I come here. Hell, I was on these forums, hit refresh and had to log in AGAIN. I dont see any improvement over the old ones.

That's all I can think of
- The auto-subscribe will probably be changed.
- Edit time is lowered to 5 or 10 min to prevent spam.
- Quick Reply can't be changed 'cause the software need to know in what order posts come, i.e what post you answer too.
- The Log On I would love to be changed, but I've let FF save the password so I only have to click the first letter on my login.
- I'm using a spell checker for FireFox 3 and it works great. Just right-click in the box.

If any non-beta testers want to see what this software can do, check out Ubuntuforums.org, or any other major web community that uses vBulletin. There's lots of potential here, we just need to implement it right. The team working on doing that just shrunk by about 70%, so let's cut them some slack.

As long as they don't completely drop the ball there's nothing to worry about. At least we have a forum, right?

I was going to do that, but then it occurred to me that I don't really want my game login details saved in my browser. Even less in the browser on my work computer.

Much better forum software! I like how you can mark forums read and then later on just look at new posts.

The import function defaulted this on for everyone. I've gone through and turned it off. (Sorry if you wanted it on) The web team is working on fixing the User CP so you'll be able to change this option in the future.

I've upped the session timeout to from 15 minutes to 1 hour, which was the same timeout as the old boards.

why is it then that on the old forums, id stay logged in for... well... weeks and months between visits?

i had to log in to the forums exactly twice... the first time, and then later when i got a new pc... never again after that...

Nope old boards I logged in a couple months ago and everytime I showed up since I was logged in. Yesterday I actually had to go look up my password it had been so long since I used it.

The old boards I believe had the little check box for keep me logged on for each time I visit. These boards do not, so every time I leave I have to relog. We need the check box back that keeps us logged in.

It seems, as it is now, that you have to view the forum page (e.g. General Discussion page) before the thread will be marked as read.

True, but if there is a lot of activity on the board, you might miss a new post that way. It is still a bug that needs to be fixed- not that it's a big problem.

Having to log in every time can be a pain, but give the crew time, it may be changed. As for being complicated... It is new, and will take time to adjust to. Give it a chance; the team did not change forums for the fun of it. They did it for us.

No, it's not.

In the upper left you have User CP. That is your User Control Panel where all your account settings and options are there, sorted by category. For example, under Settings & Options you have Edit Signature, Edit Profile, Edit Options, and Edit Avatar.

Next to User CP up there you have FAQ, which has nothing to with DR. It covers the new forum software and answers the most frequently asked questions about it, all you need to do is read and remember. Or you can just go through your User CP and read what's there, and just apply some logical thought to it, and soon enough you will know everything you need to know to navigate the new forums and use them.

But please stop making posts about how much better the old forums were. Regardless of whether that is the case or not, they are not coming back. Being able to adapt to the inevitable changes around you is going to make your life a lot easier and less stressful. Something as insignificant as a forum interface is a good place to start learning.

It isn't either difficult or complicated. It just is.

I like this new forum, the graphics look like they could use a touch up but otherwise it's good.

I LOVE the unlimited sig length, now I don't have to paste my rainbow text name in all the time :P

It's always hard to get used to a change but now that I've had time to poke around I like it.
