Best instance to farm xp as a solo mage?
vB post 132385 - 08/05/08 07:49 AM

Just wondering what would be the best instance to farm for xp as an aoe mage? I'm only lvl 34 or so, and so appreciate any help.

Personally, I wouldn't bother farming xp. It's a bit silly to rush to the end, since there's no "end game" when you get there.

At your level, there are great quest chains in Frumps and soon in Mutantous Malaise. Do the quests, earn lots of gold and coins and get great exp from all the cowbell rewards. You'll have more fun...

In my Mage experience (currently level 44) you get XP the fasted running through dungeons you are overlevelled for but less than 5 levels above the max (else you earn no experience). The reason for this being the ease with which you can kill the fodder with area-of-effect spells and still get experience for it.

IMO i think its dumb to solo in the first place its much funner to level with a group and you get more loot.

That is all well and good, and your opinion. However, it is not "dumb" for some one to have a play style different to your own. I have soloed the greater part of my 61 levels. I have had a great deal of fun and have never had a shortage of loot or gold.

considering all mobs are worth the same amount of xp as long as you are within range of the dungeon it really does not matter where you level. I agree that trying to rush tot he end is silly because there is no end game.

At level 40 and a mage (I use both AOE in the form of Ring of Fire (ooo ha ha) and Shadow Lightning as well as just popping off single target damage) I've found that starting at the beginning of a dungeon and working all the way through then go to the next and the next... I've been leveling pretty steadily and on occasion I stop to farm a boss or something. The only problem I encountered to date was with Embercore. I started it at level 37 or 38 and made it to the boss at 39 and couldn't defeat him myself so I'm not continuing to the next dungeon, but instead have begun Embercore over again. I'll probably try the boss again in a couple levels and if I can beat him solo, I'll move on to the next dungeon. If I can't, I'll level some more Given that I am only level 40 and the next dungeon is level 50, it's probably a good idea for me

So in summary (since I can be wordy) keep clearing every nook and cranny of the dungeon you are currently working on and have fun

Shows what you know... Karl clearly told me I won.

Seriously, this makes perfect to sense to those who have made hunnerd, but there's an inexplicable compulsion to top off that first toon. No use trying to talk people out of it.

Agreed. Fools will be fools. My main problem with it is having to listen to those same people complain once they reach 100.

To the recommendation of farming a boss for experience, I've never found that farming a boss has been an excellent source of quick xp. It is a slow going process when done that way, especially if you up the difficulty. It's much quicker, if xp is all your about, to run full dungeons on normal. You may get more monsters at a higher difficulty, but you'll waste more money on pots and it'll take longer to run the dungeon. With my second toon I've been taking turns between farming a boss and leveling while running through dungeons and it seems to be working just fine. Running the dungeons also gives me the opportunity to do quests as well.

I agree with you both Ting and Necro. I think this race to the "finish" is done a lot by those who usually play other games and are not use to being able to get to the highest level at the speed in which you can in this game. Not saying that this is the case for everyone though. Unfortunately, those same end up complaining about not having anything to do once they reach 100. They have yet to earn the right to do so like those of us who have had a 100 toon for about 10 months now (or longer), hehe.
