Posse-owned worlds or instances of Townston
vB post 96813 - 02/18/08 05:47 PM

Guilds are coming. Most of us know that. Some of us like them, some don't, but I had a thought while playing this afternoon. What if you could limit worlds to a single posse? Obviously, the posse would have to X number of players in order to justify this, but I think it'd be doable.

Another aspect could be not having your own posse world, but at least your own instance of Townston. I think that's very doable.

I think the different instance of Townston would be a good/better idea than a separate world altogether.

My only question is: aren't the seperate instances of townston there on purpose to spread out player load? That's why I always go to T2 or T3 when it becomes available to ensure I remain "lagless".

That's why they're there today, yes. I think they could easily be used for posses, though.

Ideally, this would serve to let players have their own "world", free from trolls, jerks, etc... The (big) downside, however, is "how would you meet cool new players?".

Ultimately, I foresee most players simply moving from /w chat to /p chat, which might isolate chat, but not players.

EB you're very "down" it seems recently about DR's outlook...you okay? I mean, taking down W7?.....c'mon man, have you gone daft?! We would fight to the end - I'll even take three trolls to everyone else's one if that's what needs to be done to save the world that I now call my home. Even if some of us do join "posses," I'm confident that a lot of the people who we/you refer to in the W7 community will probably comprise one of the biggest ones anyhow - you won't be left alone or unloved, at least not by me. Things won't be so bad as long as the "good" people stick around. I mean look at the forums - how many people are here from world 7.....

Besides, if that happened for some odd reason, you know the world 7'ites would just move to another world and institute the beliefs and courtesies of St. Iggy there. We ARE the DR community's version of the "Rise of Christianity" so to speak you know..... SO, assimilate or PERISH you trolls!!!! ROFL....

Actually, Ghad, this suggestion grew from something that Addy (I think) said about most of the W7 regulars being one big guild, anyway. W7 was visited by a few trolls today and it would have been great if we could have booted them. That spawned my thought that a guild could have it's own world or, at least, instance. If we have a guild with hundreds of players, with X+ on at any given time, could we just have our own world? After all, guilds *should* be about like minded players having fun together.

I'm the first to admit, though, that my suggestion would probably cause more harm than good. I'd like to see a big W7 guild, but I don't necessarily want to segregate us from everybody else.

Sorry I missed the errr fun yesterday on world 7...jsut remember Iggy is our friend.....my concern with guilds is two fold.one will be the arrogane taht guild members will show to everyone not of thier guild.............stupid is as stupid does and I think we shall see alot of astupid.........I will ask for an expansion of the Iggy files when posses go into play...to 100 names .it might help a bit........two I am concerned about anything that affects game play ...and after watching what pvp did to game play....and the amount of effort exxpended to make pvp playable.at teh cost to PVE I might addd.... I am concerend aobut teh same drain to PVE with that adding of guilds.....

Yes I love what we have on World 7... it has been alot of work by alot of people......but the joy of it is its freedom....if it was a guild I would quit it ina heart beat...Guildws are ultimatly aobut control...someone is in control, or several someones.and thier ideas control the outlook of the game from that moment on for anyone belonging to or wanting to join the guild........................sorry....... no thank you...........No one will tell me how I will enjoy the game.not now or ever

Silly Ripper, it was me not addy that said it. still think that it would be a great Idea. Most of world 7 talks to each other and are extremly friendly in World chat, occasionaly we get the odd troll that gets iggied although seems to be going down maybe iggy list just going up. None the less the idea of giving away to others would be better for all if we could do it more or less world wide but had us in Guild form. I want to give away my Rbs that i can't use but it burns me up to give them away to a troll that happens to not be iggied from W1 yet. If everyone who plays on W7 was to form a guild together we know who plays there for the most part and who does not then I think it would stop the trolls from comming in as much, for the free loot.

I dont know maybe give people a waiting list to get into guild like 2 days in zone or something? there are quite a few of us on daily at certain times of the day they can look us up and be more or less sponsored into the LOVE. err i mean guild.

For a long time I have been against a couple ideas surrounding posse's. But, some ideas are brought up here that I kinda like. While I do feel that in making a "guild realm/world" we would end up losing out on the opportunity of meeting a number of new and good people. But, the trolling is the problem there but can be rectified individually. But the trading/trolling item brought up is an issue that has made me leery of just dropping stuff in the pig pen and yelling "ssooooiiiiieeeee". I still do it although not as often as I would like.

So, for the idea that I did not like that now sounds good.... the posse houses. We can just drop stuff into a posse house or bank and those that need can take.

Ripper I think I understand what you are asking, say you in w7 but your posse would be on town 3, but only your posse is able to go on world 3. I like the suggestion but unless you have a posse of over 50 players I dont see it happening. However, a posse house is a good idea, where you can build up your house via quests, money to do certain things. Such having a guild bank where you can toss items in and maybe give it a password so that the person who you want to give to only knows it. With the option of no password so anyone can grab it.

Can also leave messages in posse house for others, like a bullentin.

Mainly I am posting this to keep an interesting topic alive without being told that "search is your friend- use it."
I would, however, also like to express my intense agreement with both /p chat and posse houses ("hangouts" more likely if I know our devs). I believe that this would not only make for more engaging gameplay, but create more reasons to join DR.

I have given this topic quite a bit of thought, and I have come up with a rather pleasing (to me) idea.

What if we could have posse-owned instances of townston, as Ripper suggested, and within that instance have your guild house? You would go to this instance by default (with an option to go to the general town instance) and your guild house would be you bank/merchant/KCvendor. This would be very neat and likely not require too much programming for devs (as all instances would be identical).

Perhaps you would need money, or KCs, to add these banker/vendor features to your house. Your posse would need a vast amount of KCs (so that some lvl 100 couldn't immediately max everything out) before purchasing, but maybe these posse-specific vendors would have a lower price, or be somehow convenient and rewarding.

Maybe you could have a shared bank, or a "dumpster"-like thing (as suggested by coachgregc here).

Whaddaya think?

Problem is there is no gold trading so how a possee will be allowed to pool resources like gold or KCs needs to be addressed...... my concern is if something liek that is allowed then guilds have an unfair advantage over those that choose to solo..... and that isnt the way this game has been set up so far.

Since DR does not and will never have a flowing economy, I don't think pooling resources will be a part of Posses because there simply isn't any point. At most you will be able to store (non-Soulbound) equipment in some kind of vault to share with other posse members. In DR, the value of gold (normal money and KC) is relatively small compared to other games because so little relies on it. In other games, money is very important because it is your main way to get equipment (mainly) and in some games, essential raw materials (Runescape). In DR, it isn't possible to buy equipments from other players (which is the main way of getting equipment in most games), and there are only a few NPC merchants worth buying from (Sally and Sam), and they are rather rare and sell stuff quite cheaply. Plus, equipments in DR are relatively easy to come by, even Mythics are actually quite common when you compare it to other MMOs. The only main use for DR gold is for skills (disregarding Sally and KC vendors), which are again, relatively cheap.

Because of the fact that gold means little in DR, and also that the Devs are against a flowing economy, it seems unlikely pooling of money and KC will happen in Posses.

The idea of a guild house is a fun one... but I don't like the notion of guild-specific world. Instances, maybe, but not worlds.

To be honest, there's been a disturbing increase in requests for features that allows DR players to isolate themselves from anyone other than their own group or level. That seems to me to go right against the casual and social nature of DR.

I really like the shared bank idea. The merchants would need a lot of thinking though. I think selling their stuff at a discount wouldn't be right. The the convenient and rewarding idea is nice. Dump enough king coins in the pot though and maybe get certain dungeon npcs to show up in town. It would take many many king coins though.
