Hello, I was wondering if the bonus to elements helps the bonus on the weapons... For exemple, if we have items which give like +5% shadow power or +30 shadow damage per second and a weapon which gives +20 shadow damage to weapon attack, will the +20 shadow damage be influenced by the +5% and the +30 shadow DPS? Thank you :) |

I assume they do, because I see people running around in PvP with weird elemental buffs which they don't seem to need. The only logical explanation is that they are buffing their weapon's elemental damage. |

I pretty sure that elemental buffs and item bonuses DONT help weapon elemental bonuses. It was explained to me in game when I asked the same question a while back, and unless its changed this is what I understand: Elemental buffs and item bonuses only effect damage output done by your skills (i.e. spells, etc) directly. Elemental damage bonus is applied to the actual damage of the weapon when a successful hit occurs, and if the target has a resistance to that particular element, then that bonus can be "blocked." This can be seen by your elemental bonus on the character sheet. Say if you dont have any bonuses on anything and equip a ring with +20 fire dps - then you char sheet reflects a fire bonus of 20 in the lower right. If you equip a sword with +10 ice dmg to attack, your ice bonus on your char sheet doesnt go up. I think this is still the way it is, and I havent checked to make sure of it since then, but Ill log in and see if this is still correct. Hope that helps if what I said is true. |

Well, I looked over the skill sheets of many skilled PvPers, and a lot of them use elemental buffs corresponding to their weapon's elemental attack. Eg. a Fighter using Dark Wizardry and Pyromania because one of his weapons has Shadow Damage and one has Fire Damage. |

Yep, what I said appears to be correct. My vis'kars bilespitter says "+86 poison dps to weapon attack" and my shoulders and boots each say "+7/+4 dps to poison attacks". I have a +11 poison bonus on my char sheet from the pcs of armour, and when I dont use a skill and attack with the spitter and make a successful hit (my normal max dmg is like 300 something normally on my character sheet) and Ill get hits that float up a damage number in the 400's. Having toxic talent buff on(boosting my poison dmg by 55% or whatever) does NOT boost this damage number from the bow any more, which makes sense and is in line with my explanation. Buffs will still raise the damage of divine skills for fighters though such as holy roller, awesome cleave, soul rend, etc. but if they have a weapon that also gives +divine dmg to weapon attack, the buff does NOT give that weapon that much more divine dmg as per the buff, its a static bonus. Now, some weaps will give "+x dmg to divine attacks" which is different than "+x divine dmg to weapon attack", and in that case the weapon does its normal dmg without a bonus, but the divine + gets added to your skill damage total - which may or not be better for you. See the difference? Plus percent (+%) bonus items add to the base calculation min/max for spells/skills as seen on your skill bar. If you mouse over a skill such as ROF and see its min/max dmg, then remove or add an item that gives you +x% fire dmg to that element/skill, youll see the numbers change on the skill/spell in the task bar or your skill page. +% stuff tends to be the better/best stuff for big number bonuses and changes when you do the math. So there ya go! :D If any devs read this and I AM incorrect, please correct me so I know as well as everyone else, but this is what Ive figured out and was explained a while back and it does not seem to have changed or be incorrect. |

Thank you for testing it out. I couldn't be sure, since I don't have any elemental damage weapons to test it with. |

Teclis: This is very educational, thanks! Are you telling me that popping Toxic Talent will NOT help my Poison Shots, but WILL help w/ Gaseous Blast? Or, did I get it bass-ackwards? I know that Acidic Blight definitely helps with conventional arrow damage (esp. with Trigger Finger Frenzy) just wish AB didn't have such a long recharge. |

Quote:Toxic talent will actually help BOTH poison shot and BG because they cause poison skill dmg. What it will NOT do though, if you have a xbow with "+x poison dmg to your weapon attack" while using the poison shot, is make that +X bonus dmg to attack any higher- it will always be the same. So heres the example breakdown. You attack with the xbow with the +x poison dmg to weap attack (not just +X poison dps, thats different as in my last post) WITHOUT TT on. The bow, if it hits, does its normal min/max physical dmg plus the +X poison dmg. WITH TT on, if the bow hits, it STILL does its physical dmg, +X same poison dmg (the exact same, since the TT doesnt effect the static weap bonus). Now, using the same bow, shooting poison shot: without TT on, if it hits, the bow does physical dmg, +X poison dmg bonus, +poison shot skill dmg over 4 seconds. WITH TT on; if it hits, the bow does physical dmg, +the same amount of poison dmg bonus, + buffed poison shot dmg over 4 secs (be it +55 dps or whatever TT is at your lvl). Hope that breakdown helps. TT will help any poison SKILL that you have to activate from the skill bar/mouse buttons. The reason that I kept writing "if it hits" is where acidic blight comes in...acidic blight like you said reduces targets' defense value - thus making it easier to score a hit, and cause all the bonus and skill dmg to happen. On a last note, you can have a bow that has +fire or +ice dmg to weapon attack. SO you can shoot and cause physical dmg, +x fire dmg bonus, +poison shot skill dmg over 4 secs - causing multiples of different kinds of dmg in one shot (i.e. ice/poison, fire/poison, etc.) Demonsniper is a good example of this kind of weapon causing lots of shadow dmg bonus with int and agi. bonus whew...lol :D |

it does work. i have full cinder gear with fire dps weapons. and i use pyromania with it and it does a lot more damage. when i fight abaddon i will use %ice rings with two executioner's and chilling touch and i seem to drop him quicker. |

I think I'll go laugh at those people using half a dozen elemental buffs for their weapon elemental damages. |

I wasnt talking about "seems" to work better, was just stating the facts of what happens when I'm in game with both my characters (a ranger and a fighter) and the appropriate gear as stated. The same thing was explained to me months ago. If you have a different experience, post it up so we (I) can see what you mean and maybe we can further sort this out. I have no problem saying that I'm incorrect if you have other proof - I just want the right answer like everyone else. Definitely dont want to be spreading false information. Now, you say you have +fire DPS weapons...I'm talking about and responding to weapons that have "+X fire/ice/whatever dmg TO WEAPON ATTACK " - the two of which are NOT the same thing. So Im just trying to clear up and understand what youre saying you have/do with more detail. Changing gear and then dropping abby quicker may also be due to other things changing with your gear - like your attack rating, % chance to hit, etc. depending on what the different items give for attribute bonuses. Man, now I defintely hope a dev responds to this thread! lol :D |

im pretty sure it's not from my attack rating and so on. with the gear i use my attack rating stays about the same, but as a ranger say if you have a demon sniper,it does shadow dps but with dark wizardy it will increase the dps with the shadow.same as jewelry. it deffinately has an effect. |

Quote:I'm going to side with ladyranger in this argument. Did some testing tonight because I was curious too. I equiped a level 42 crossbow that had +57 weapon attack shadow damage. My shadow mage, Freesia, has +220 shadow damage (not equiping her Uber Wand). I was hitting things for around 300 - 598 damage (I'm assuming there were crits that caused the 598) since I was using Widower's Nest critters (max level 40) as target dummies. This is without Dark Wizardry active. Now with it active, I was able to hit critters consistently over 800 damage while the buff was active. Highest I recorded was 898. Without it active, the highest damage I was able to achieve was 598. For the record, at rank 13 (or 12, not sure actually) dark wizardry, my mage gets a buff of +483 shadow damage for 30 seconds. I think dark wizard DOES buff elemental weapon damage. |

crappy...guess i need to do more tests then. I didnt see that effect with my ranger that I used to test it, but maybe i was looking at something wrong...i dunno. okay until further notice disregard my post answers above, and we'll get this mess sorted out. Man I hate the taste of my sneakers, lol. anyone else helping with this issue would be greatly appreciated. |
