Server Downtime and Patch Notes 10/30 (ver .39)
#8407 - 10/30/06 07:07 PM

The DR Beta Server will be brought down at 10:00am Central on 10/31 to publish the following:

General Changes

• Monsters in the Horrific Dungeon of Legend now regenerate their health during battle.

• Monster regeneration rates have been reduced across the board.

• The login screen now properly remembers your username.

• The profanity filter was updated to allow the word "hello" to be spoken in global channels. We will be further revising this filter for the next build.

• A bug was fixed that caused the tooltip for items to display incorrect information. In general, this bug caused the stats of items to appear stronger than they really were.

• Player attack rating per agility was increased to 7.

• All NPCs in town have been given first names for easier reference.

• Skill tooltips have been improved to inform you if the skill is too expensive to cast mana-wise. Look for the mana cost to be colored red in this case.

• Minimap exploration now takes place even when the minimap is hidden from view.

• Minimap exploration is now saved as long as your instances remain saved.

• A bug introduced in version 36 related to some graphics cards has been fixed. This bug caused a crash on startup when previous versions worked properly.

• A bug in the dungeon generator that caused room injection to fail has been fixed.

• We now have the ability to generate more random interactive objects in the world. Expect to see these new interactive objects starting to show up next build.

• Wheeler monsters have had their sound effects changed from the "nails on a blackboard" to something less irritating.

• More music has been added to the dungeon. With even more to come!

Quest Changes

• A bug that caused quests not to save their progress properly has been fixed.

• New features have been added to the quest system for future use: restriction of quest lines based on character class, ability to generate items as a reward, class-specific rewards are now possible and the reward values have been brought into our centralized system to allow for easier balancing.

• No new quests have been added this build, however the placement of original quest providers may have changed because of the new dungeon layout.

• Quest objectives that used to be drawn as black on the summary UI should now be drawn as white.

Optimizations

• Several bottlenecks were isolated and fixed on the server.

• Several optimizations were made client-side to improve framerate in areas where lots of particles are being drawn. This is especially obvious in the snowy areas of the world. Our internal testing shows a 400% increase in framerate in these areas on some machines.

• General optimizations to the client have been made to improve framerate across the board.

CS Tools

• We have implemented the ability to force name changes on characters that have unacceptable names.

• Our chat logging system has been updated to use a direct-to-database logging system instead of writing to files first.

• We can now send in-game announcements to all players about important events (like shutting the game server down for maintenance).

World Changes

• Eight new dungeons have been added to the world. The original dungeon line leaving from Townston has been replaced with this new layout. Each of the eight dungeons is designed for a specific level range. The overall size of the world has been doubled by this change.

• The new dungeons are: Algernon, Agrock's Gauntlet, Vergrim's Vexation, The Widower's Nest, Algor's Frostbite, The Mutantous Malaise, The Embercore Path and The Shadow's Embrace.

• Each new dungeon is comprised of many levels, with each deeper level being generally larger and more difficult than the ones before it.

• All invalid waypoints have been removed from your teleport menu. You will have to explore the dungeon to get the waypoints again.

• All players -- including new players -- will automatically recieve waypoints to Dew Valley and Townston.

• A new kind of zone portal has been added to the game. These zone portals are yellow in color and exist to teleport you to a specific area of the dungeon. These portals are one-way and are generally found at the end of special side-dungeons that you will encounter -- taking you back to the entrance so that you can avoid doubling back on foot.

Grouping Changes

• Minimap exploration is now shared between all members of your group.

• Several bugs were fixed with the "Find Group" system. These bugs caused improper group matching to take place in some cases.

• Everyone's group is defaulted to "Public" instead of "Private". This increases the chance that anyone using the "Find Group" system will actually find a group.

Item Changes

• The power difference between membership-required items and free items has been increased.

• All melee weapon damage has been decreased by approximately 10%.

• The defense rating on all shoulder armor has been increased.

• All items have been further reduced in power. Specifically, the effective level offset of items based on quality is now: -8 for white, -7 for green, -2 for blue, -1 for yellow, 0 for purple and +1 for rainbow.

• The colors of item names have been slightly changed. They are now (in order of power): white, green, blue, yellow, purple and rainbow.

Loot Changes

• The rate of white and green item drops has been reduced for regular monsters. Mini-boss drop rates have not been changed.

• The loot tables for the Horrific Dungeon of Legend have been modified to produce items much less frequently. However, when an item does drop it is guaranteed to be blue or above. The chance for very rare items has also been improved for monsters in this dungeon.

• Treasure chests will drop more gold than before.

Skill Changes

• Searing Attack has been renamed Soul Rend. Its damage type has been changed from fire to divine.

• Soul Piercer has been renamed Ice Shards. Its damage type has been changed from divine to ice.

• Fear of Gosh has been changed to be a single-target melee attack with a mile divine damage over time component that causes enemies to flee in fear.

• A new skill was added to the Ranger trainer: Summon Wolf. This skill summons a wolf to fight by your side until it dies. Increasing the rank of this skill increases the level of the wolf summoned. Only one wolf may be summoned at a time. Summoning a second wolf will kill the first one.
