PvP Power won't go down?
#73347 - 08/10/08 04:08 PM

I haven't paid much attention to this in the past, so I do not know if this is a bug or not, but my PvP power indicator won't go down.

When i get better equipment it does go up, but after that my toon can be in his undies, or his best armor set it doesn't change at all.

It does scale down a bit on gaining a level, but changing equipment still does not alter it(unless it's for the better).

Am I misunderstanding what PvP Power is supposed to represent or is this a bug? If it's a bug is it just me or is everyone seeing this?

a) There's already been several topics exactly like this one.

b) They obviously don't help.

c) Just set yourself busy.

I have said before and will say again... Power leveling is just stupid. Why rush to get to level 100? So you can brag? Despite the fact that you did not do it on your own. Then complain because there is nothing to venture for.

It is very easy- "Will you power level me?" = Right click, ignore.

Welcome to the new generation of gamers, where many want everything handed to them on a silver platter. They don't want it "now"... they want it "yesterday". And they want it for as little effort as possible; none if they can manage it.

They'll use every cheat or hack they can find. They'll buy their way through if possible.

They'll insist that because they're new and you're a higher level, that you must have tons of money and that you should give them some. Or that you should sacrifice your playtime, regardless of how little that might be, to power level them. They feel that you somehow owe them, because they're new. If you don't help them with money or PL'ing, then you're an "elitist jerk" (or some other far more obscene term). How *dare* you force them to go out and make their own way, just like you did?

They'll throw every excuse in the book at you to justify their mindset - "I have a family", "I work", "I don't live in my mother's basement with all day to grind", etc. etc. They'll make it sound like it's their only viable option (interestingly "not playing the game in the first place" never seems to occur to them). They'll insist it's the game's/developers' fault for "making them have to do it" due to "poor design" (ie. not having everything they might want on tap when they want it).

The one thing they absolutely will not do is actually play the game.

Suggesting they earn anything themselves and actually *play the game* is like telling them to stick their head in boiling oil. The reaction you'd get is probably about the same.

My ignore list has grown by leaps and bounds in other games because of those type.

I guess the best course of action is to add them to the ignore list and/or set yourself to "busy" as has been suggested... 'cause they ain't going away.

Come to think of it... Being that DR is a parody game... I think they'd be an awesome mob to put in. Call them "Nagging Noobies". All they do is run up and beg to be PL'd or to give them money (sorta similar to the leets in Anarchy Online). Except unlike their real-life counterparts, you can drop them.

There's some things you can do to protect you a little bit. Set yourself as busy, remove any growth-items and such.

It is usually lower levels who haven't played so much who ask so there's several things to answer them with, and being polite usually works. I often say that "I gladly help with boss-fights if you have a waypoint, but I NEVER power-level." and soon more and more on your server knows so they don't ask. I usually add something about "leveling in this game is really fast" and they "should enjoy the ride and hilarious quests". And that it took me 21 days only to reach 100 and that they can check their gametime with the /played command.

If someone don't stop nagging I do say something like "Nagging for powerleveling will only get you on my Ignore-list." If that don't work I add " and I'll tell everyone you just beg for power-leveling so all ignore you, then you can play this game all alone." (Almost never goes that far though.) But I never put him/her there, I just go busy for 5 min and he thinks he's ignored, being a newb and not knowing all functions yet.

I'm proud of my all empty ignore-list. The game is way different to when I used Ignore way back. Much more fun now.

You've been very lucky, then heheh.

I tried being patient and responding to them as helpfully as I could... When they'd ask for money, I'd instead offer suggestions on how to make money, very easy ways to do it for a new player, and explain that that's how I now gear new characters and that it works well.

9/10 times that's not what they want to hear. They don't want advice. They want money. They either stop talking to me, or are like "w/e, can you just give me some money?"

If I give advise on good places to level, etc... same thing "Can't you just PL me. I don't want to grind. It takes too long".

And, in the worst cases, because you help them once, they think they've got a "friend for life" who's going to drop what they're doing on a moment's notice, no matter where you are, and come help them. Those are the ones that really get me. I'll tell them "I'm nowhere near you right now and I'm in a party", or "I'm helping a friend out..." or anything.. Nope. They ain't having it. "Well, leave and come help me. I need help doing these quests". When I don't help them, they get very rude and very bitter.

So they end up on my ignore list.

It hasn't happened yet in DR.. but of course, I'm still a new player, so no one would be asking me for help yet :-p.

As for gold it's real easy: "Gold and King Coins can't be traded in this game. That way we don't get any spambots for gold-selling sites."

And yeah, I get those at times thinking 'cause I helped out that I'm always available to help them out. If it's get to much I just tell them that I don't have time but have to catch up with my own gaming. And there's also the "I don't pay for this game just to run around leveling others all days."

Of course, responses like that land you with "elitist jerk" comments. But I guess at least they leave you alone after that.

I'm only level 50 but I still seem to constantly get group invites from low-levelled runners. Most of the time no whisper was sent before the invite, just after. I get relief by being in a group with someone else so they automatically get the message stating that the player is already in a group (generally when I run I pick a destination and then open the group). I haven't had to resort to only accepting invites from friends, but I could see it getting there in ten or twenty levels.

It seems like if you really want powerlevelling, you should have the courtesy to ask beforehand in a private message with proper spelling, yet I rarely see even that.

Power-leveling requests will always be a problem in all mmorpg's and there's isn't really anything we can do about it but to learn to cope with it and be patient, let the lowbies figure out for themselves that they miss out on so much of the game when just being helped by high-levels. Of course we can explain that the monsters grow in strength side by side as we grow in levels but it's hard to know how it is since they haven't been high-level here themselves. Most mmorpg's have monsters a certain level depending of area and surely one strive in these games to be as powerful as possible, both to feel strong and to show off for the lowbies so new players come to this game thinking it works the same here.

So... Adding to the list: "Don't hurry to level, enjoy the hilarious quests during your journey since the monsters justs gets stronger along with you."

as to fix the autoinvite problem just right click your name and set it to accept invites from friends only (just remember to change it back if you want a group invite from someone not on your friends list).

Wow, all you people are so much nicer than I am... I have three set responses to any powerlevelling and item requests I get. The first one is "No.". The second is, "I said no. Please stop whispering to me". Third time, they go on my ignore list.

Here's the weird thing though... I'm level 33! Who could I powerlevel, and what kind of uber-items do these people expect me to have?

I was thinking the same thing. I think that people (using the term loosely for those asking to be power leveled) don't look at the chart to see who's online and what their level is. I've never asked to be power leveled, though I did ask a certain Dark Lord of the Ninja to show me the bad guy he was fighting. It was pretty cool.

And now that I'm like 36, I can power level you Khazandra

Yep, i have those problems too. Lower levels invite me to group at least 4 times a day. Ask me for PLing and stuff. annoying. I use simillar ways as Khaz
But this is an original one: i make a friend who is lower level. At first, everythings cool. Then, EVERY day they ask me can they join my group? Not can i plvl them, but can they join my group. I do it once, if i have time. After i say "no, ur too low lvl" and stuff, then comes the part where they act dumb and say: "I wont get in the way", like they dont know that more players=harder monsters.
Every day.....
Then i snaped!
"If i asked my every higher lvl friend to plvl me, u would be the only one on my friends list!" and then again just to help them a bit... Then theyre angry because my group is always full! And, the question that shuts them up for good
Do you think i log in wait around just so i can plvl you? I want to play for myself dude!"
I had 2 cases like this, and 1 guy still doesnt get it!
I have to say this: in all my 65 levels, i was never PLed!
And i dont want to, it really ruins the game. Its boring! Why do people even want to be plvled!?

Actually, I have found that just setting myself to Busy as soon as I log on is the most painless way of avoiding these things, combined with accepting invites only from friends. Anyone who's not on my friends list, who asks first, I just put there temporarily, so I can get the invite.

So far its working out fine.

And yes, I am certifiably crazy. It took you this long to realize that?

One problem could be that anyone can add you to their Friendslist. If they see you're on a lot and have helped them once, they add you and then every time you go on they'll ask you to help. No matter how fast computer you have, they'll see that you're online before you get the graphics loaded and can put yourself as busy and have plenty of time to ask for help.

I wish the Friend-adding were mutual so that we had to accept upon adding. This way we'd know who had us added since we have them too.

But that probably wouldn't work since they'll add import/export of your friendslist in next chunk... Then I'd rather see a delay on the "user online"-message so that we would have time to go busy or whatever. Even for real friends. Often I log on to grab a screenshot only or have just 2 minutes over and wanna grab some Exp, but since I can't go busy directly I often get loads of friends greeting me and such, which I have to answer so I don't come on as rude.

Anyways, I think a Delayed 'User Online' notice would solve a lot so I went and made that an suggestion on IdeaRunners.

I've been pleveled before, but i didn't ask for it, a 100 i was hanging out with at the time was running a group of us through hdol plevel his friend(who was mostly plevel to 100 and only played for a couple months, and i haven't seen either of them in quite some time) at this time my main was around level 30 or 40 so this was a long time ago. I only did it for a little while and was fun to see how many rbs can drop in a single instance of hdol 3 or 6. I leveled once or twice then was off to my own stuff.

Pleveling is just as boring as endlessly grinding, even more so since you don't usually have to do anything but follow at a distance, not get killed and just collect loot, ZZzzz.

I honestly did not know that (not that I was one of the people you were speaking about). I thought that the monsters got harder when you changed the difficulty of the dungeon. Now I have a question...if grouping changes the difficulty of the monster as well, does it matter if the grouped person is in the dungeon with you? So if Khaz, Terra, myself and you all wanted to chat together while doing our different things, all had our dungeon difficulty on normal and in 4 different dungeons, would those dungeons all be harder?

Yes, I believe if you're all in the same group, even in different dungeons then the monsters will be harder. Even if just moderately, if the leader is set on normal. It wouldn't matter who else was set to what difficulty, just the leader.

The monsters do get harder due to difficulty setting too. That's why it's annoying to some, myself included, when I'm in a group of say...3 level 100's doing a boss run while at higher difficulty and someone 50 levels lower sends me or someone in the group a tell about wanting to join. They'll "stay out of the way" or what-not, but fail to consider the fact that it makes the run harder and even though there's a 4th person playing in the group, they cannot help us.

Yes,more players in group, its harder. Every new player adds +100% loot, not sure what is the impact on Monster deamage and health. That means, running with 2 people on normal gives more loot then soloing on insane. Oh,and a full group (5 members)gives an extra bonus to loot. That way, max loot is +1150%, with 5 group members, on insane, in a boss fight

Did not ask for it, but been power levelled twice. At first it was really cool to see level 100 in action. Felt kinda useless after a while. Couldn't even keep up so I kept hitting Go To and then tried to kill something on the fringe of the mob so as to add some value. Even that was hard as they went down so fast. Probably was just getting in the way. Guess I should have just scooped up all the loot instead. Probably missed something good...

Haha, happened to me too on my main. I were just new to the game and didn't know anything and some lvl 20-30 pulled me with him (being 6-7 or something that where REALLY high level to me). He didn't explain anything about the game and probably just used me to get some fast and free loot.

I don't mind bringing lowbies along in ordinary dungeons (when I have time) but I make it an educational trip. Try to explain things in the game. Although I rather do that during helping with boss-runs. Plenty of time explaining while they gather up loot.

After i say "no, ur too low lvl" and stuff, then comes the part where they act dumb and say: "I wont get in the way", like they dont know that more players=harder monsters.
More often I hear "plz im really good." As if any amount of player skill could make up for every enemy in the dungeon being red difficulty.

Lyllia find Bogey in game sometime and I'll gladlly run through balz a couple of times with you It comes down to the fact that some people you don't mind dragging along so they can get a step up and the ones that whine and beg all the times you just never deal with again

Anyway running a group of 4 lvl 30ish's throguh balz can be fun sometimes.

Might just have to take you up on that offer. I'm really frustrated right now after running the Mutanous dungeon from level 4 through 7 with all the side dungeons and clearing each totally with the difficulty set on Extreme (that's the one just under insane correct?) and getting ridiculously low amounts of equipment to drop. I'm not expecting rainbows at every corner, but I'm expecting more than a couple purples! I'd go through a group of monsters in a room and not even get gold sometimes then the next maybe a grey item and a good drop would be a couple greens and a blue or a few potions. Even chests were lousy.

I was power leveled by 3 people, ME, Myself, and I. All were very cool but I really liked the Me guy the best, lol. Now that I am getting close to lvl 100 I have been getting asked to help lowbies a lot, I do understand how it can be hard to level up or get good loot if you play alone, but I don't get why they don't look for other players at their own lvl ranger to play with. I don't mind helping out a low level player every now and then, but what does bug me is when they say "Can I have a RB free" believe it or not I myself have not found that many RBs, most of the time if I find a RB I can't use myself I just look for someone in the level range and class and give it to them, as I am not big on trading, but these guys seem to think you have a warehouse supply of them somewhere.

One possible solution to the pwrlvl request could be to only allow groups within 5 lvls of each other, like an open group is now, meaning even if you wanted to help you couldn't. Then make a new dungeon where everyone gets evened out kinda like pvp, allow loot to drop but no xp points, this would let people of all levels play together and actually play together.

Besides HDoL, I never relied on running dungeons for loot or rainbows. If I got one, so be it, great! but if I didn't, no big deal. I knew that the dungeons weren't going to get me tons of loot (no matter the difficulty), usually enough to cover the pots cost, rinse and repeat. My current strategy with one of my alts (MsAbbyNormal, she's around your level, so I wouldn't mind grouping at all) is to do boss runs as high a difficulty as I can, currently using Rotty, and when I get bored and wish to level more quickly or continue through the dungeons, switching over to dungeons on norm for quicker killing and leveling. By no means the only strategy out there, but I find it rather effective. I would probably be higher by now, but I end up getting on LadyVady more often.

I've only stepped into HDoL once (on purpose, went in by accident and lost my access point to embercore level 4 ) A kind soul was nice enough to pop me over the next obelisk and I worked backwards through 4 and 5 then jumped up to 6. I had a lot of problems with the Abaddon (spelling) boss and after about an hour of failures, I asked for help and just wanted to see him dead. I'm probably going to start at the beginning of Embercore again and kick the level up one and see how I do.

If you do see me on and you're bored and want to beat stuff up with me, send me a message and we can

That brings up the good old times when blues were the best items around... (for nonmembers, ofc, but members were happy too, cause we didnt have what to do with good purps and RBs, so we always gave it to them ). Im rally dragging about this, am i?

Anyway, earlyer today i found my good old friend from those times... He was still lvl 30.
Imagine my suprise when he said we didnt see eachother for 2 years! Was it really that long? Maybe it was....

I used to power level 2 or 3 people when I spent my 2 weeks going against RotGut as RockSlide. I couldn't see how they could stand it. All they could do was stand back and wait for the loot to drop. Endless hours of waiting. Not killing a thing. Not doing a thing.

Of course that was back in my more sociable days. When I would party with pretty much anybody who wanted to. I got sick of it after awhile though. How do you tell these people that you only play with for 1/2 an hour that you are sick and tired of socializing after 12 hour day after 12 hour day of it.

Their were very many cool characters on too. Rockepellow was always wanting to be leveled in RotGut's , and was fun to listen too. Smokey(can't remember the full name) was my level and always brought his friend along to do some interesting runs through the stages (taking me away from RotGuts for a little bit). Some female toon with a real nice name that I can't remember right now was always trying to get me into a party with her and her level 100 friends. There were many others that always added something to my long borring day. Even teasing Scarry who had the nice lollipop Axe (and anyone else that had a nice lollipop axe).

That was 3 months ago , maybe more. Now I think I am ready for another month of Dungeon Runners.

I too have a shameful tale to tell. I was still new to the game, and a older player offer to take a few of us noobs to Ratty's. What do we do, we asked. "Loot, earn some xp... don't worry about anything'," he said. "It's called power leveling, and all it'll cost you is your soul."

We were so inexperienced, and we needed the money. How we would come to rue that day. But now I can at least shed light on the man responsible.

J'accuse Bogey!!! If it weren't for you, I'd have my dignity and pride... well, pride anyway... or maybe not pride -- what is it exactly when you walk around grinning with spinach on your teeth and don't know it? Ignorance! I'd still have my ignorance... just like Keanu Reeves. But you took my inner Keanu... you took my inner Keanu... and dude, that is like so not excellent.
