Question, I just got the game, and it feels like....idk how to say this nicely. A umm.. Korean grind fest?

I thought that PC gamer gave this game a 89%, And suposedly "A mmorpg that does not suck"

Well...so far im level 10 and This game has played very similar to most Free 2 play Korean grind games out there, Im not trying to flame or nothing But I wanna know when all those Korean games get 4-6 scores, The parody aspect of Dungeon runners could NOT be the only reason this game almost got a 9 could it? There has to be more to this game than "Go to town pic up potions & sell stuff, Go to dungeon grind, back to town repeat" I mean to get a 89% is not a low score, So it prob gets WAY better later on right?

Im a big fan of Ncsoft, Love Exteel and Guild wars, but this game fells really really...Well, I can name about 20 games that are F2P that feel like this, So im a bit confused. I guess its only 5 bucks a month...no cash shop so Im not spose to expect much in the first place, But anyways If there is something Big fun or unique about this game that I dont see yet or comes up later on plz let me know, Cuz I do wanna like this game (considering i already payed 6 months of it).

I guess Diablo is a Korean grind-fest, too..

When I think of grinding in games, I think of games like 9Dragons, where one farms a tiny little area, killing the same respawning mobs over and over and over again, etc... ad nauseum just to go up 3 levels so one could get two new quests... Based on that definition, DR doesn't really qualify as grinding for me, since you have actual goals and achievemnts (running an entire maze of dungeons, for example, finding chests, doing quests, killing the boss of a dungeon).

DR is a hack-n-slash dungeon crawler, a la Diablo and tons of clones spawned since then. If that's your cup of tea, great. If not, move on, because that's all there is: running dungeons, getting phat lewtz and doing quests.

p.s. Dungeon Runners is developed by staff in Austin, TX, not Korea...

Dungeon Runners gameplay is modeled after that of games like Diablo, Diablo 2, and Sacred. So no, it's not a Korean Grind Fest. Its an American [censored] Kicking Contest.

And believe me, I've played plenty of Free to Play games, and Dungeon Runners doesen't feel like any of 'em.

The thing I like about this game is the freedom that it gives you. You are not bound by your original choice of fighter, shooter or magician. You can change at any time and even mix and match the classes.

There is so much equipment and spells to play with that it would be impossible to try them all. And, of course, a setup that is good for dealing with normal mobs may be sub-optimal for bosses, etc, etc.

Another thing that I love about DR is that there is no gold trading so there is no farmers. And there is no crafting so there is no whiney, whiney crafters that plauge otherwise great games.

Well I just got this game 2 days ago and I love it. So far I think it's a great hack-n-slash and I even enjoy the PvP factor of it.

I'm also glad they are implimenting the "posses" to it. I'm planning on staying around for the long run and expanding my clan into this game.

Ah a diablo based game, I see, Well i never really played Diablo so I wouldnt know. I know Diablo 3 is coming out next year, There are already sneek peek videos on that, So whats going to happen on here once Diablo 3 comes out, ? Because on the chat as well it seems the population is largely Diablo fan based. So Does that mean once D3 comes out this games kinda done?

What will happen is that some buys D3 and starts to pay some 400 dollars in monthly fee, realizes it's not worth it and comes back while a few "single forever"-types puts half the paycheck in the game (the other on rent, coca-cola, McDonalds and acne-cleansers).

I for one will play Diablo 3 when it comes out. You gotta figure by the time it actually releases some of us may be craving a new hack-n-slash. But even if it's as good of a game as I think it will be I tend to play more than one game at a time and will still be coming here for the pvp factor. Especially if I start my Posse/Clan/Guild here. My clan is a PvP clan. We love games we can get together on and gank other teams lol.

Besides, with this game being free to download and play, it will have a fanbase for years to come.

D3 will be awesome and everything, but it's going to be expensive.

I'm going to check D3 out as soon as I can, but I'm still sticking to DR, as far as I can see.

and I really really miss playing!!! hopefully, if all goes to plan, I'll be able to play again this next week! haha!!!

lol, and huge ones too. Blizzard will loose loads of players from WoW to D3 which would be a way to massive loss if income if they didn't charge for D3 too.

I hadn't read that they were going to charge monthly fees for Diablo 3. Frankly that's a slap in the face to any Diablo/Diablo 2 fan. I'm sure it will do well enough, anyway.

There might be a touch of hypocrisy since I do pay for my DR membership but that price just seems more than reasonable.

Pricing hasn't been announced yet. If D3 is going to be updated on a regular basis, like MMOs are, then expect a fee. If it's developed solely as a standalone title, then there will probably only be a retail purchase charge.

The solution seems obvious enough. Make it a standalone game with an mmo option. Everybody's happy.

But I'm sure the marketing department is fast at work trying to calculate the numbers to see if they come out ahead by requiring mmo/fee play. Greedy bastages.

Anyways, I tried I really did TRY my hardest to like this game, but it just didnt work out. Just does not have anything that I want out of a game. Im willing to deal with the game play which to me is horrible, if the game had ether A great music (Sword of the new world or Final fantasy quality) or B good graphics, Same thing with Music and graphics, Im willing to play a game for a long time if i hate the game play but love the music and hate the graphics, or if i love the graphics hate the music and game play. But this game didnt have any of the 3. The week I did play it in order to try to like it was complete torture no customization every 1 looks the same, 3 classes only. Its super limited. That being said Its a good game for a FREE 2 play game, But I trully regret buying the Retail box now im down 20 bucks.

Think ill stick with Exteel and GW for now.

Granted, everyone looks the same, but did you check out the hybrid forum for different character builds outside of the three standard classes?

Builds didn't really interest me much. See when I play an mmorpg I wanna be able to be stuff thats not so..basic, Like ok, Dragoon in FFXI, Paragon and Ritualist in Guild wars, Classes that are completely new and never been used before, I also care alot and I mean ALOT about having multiple character options. Like guild wars offers so many classes. But id be willing to give all of that up for 1 thing, Massive amounts of customization. See, My standards are quite low. I only want 1 thing out of the 3, Ether great music Great graphics/customization(Haircolor nose with eye color over 1000 costumes Ala Phantasy star universe) or! Great game play.

This game just didnt have any of the 3 for me.

And yeah I did check out the hybrid builds, all it is is use skills from the 3 classes with the class u have and re spec for them.

Have you even played FFXI, Guild Wars, or even WoW? Because, y'know, you see one Orc Warrior or Hume Fighter, and you've seen them all. Same thing with Sword of the New World, and every other MMO except for City of Heroes/Villains and Pirates of the Burning Sea.

As for customization... you get LOADS of Customization. You can use whatever skills you want, with any weapons and equipment you want, and assign your stats however you want to. You get to CREATE YOUR OWN CLASS. Want a Melee Warrior flinging around magic attacks? You got it. Want a Mage wielding a giant crossbow? You got it. Don't like your character? No problem! Reset your stats, change out your skills, your good to go! You don't get that in any other MMO.

Agreed with Liquid. Class you want something never seen before? Touchy pirate? Which doctor? DR has millions of classes! Linky!
Lets see now: grapics are better then most free MMOs, what did you say on RS if you ever played it... Music:... if you dont like it, listen to your own music while playing! You know how to do that, dont you? Gamplay: cant help you there, you like it, or you dont!

So let's counter-criticize then. Since you have "Exteel" in your board name, I ASSUME you like it better than this game and have given it both time and patience.

Exteel. It's a fun game and I enjoy it to the point where I became a paying member. Giant mechs are fun, with all the qualities, customization, fancy skills, good graphics and (sometines-rarely) dynamic gameplay. Maps are colorful and offer different kinds of strategies (provided you even want to try out a different one).

The downsides...there are only two of them. Really, I'm serious, only two, but they sure sting as hell.

Weapon Balance. This is just...horrible. I've no words to describe this. It's just a crime. I mean, those people on the developers' team...when they do balance changes...they ALWAYS make one weapon overpowered as hell. When I started it was the weapon you start with. Along with that, it didn't lose durability. Before that, it was some stun Rifle and some C-graded weapons. And now, of course, it's the hated Beam Spitters-A. An NC Coin weapon. 90% of the community has them. It's just shameful. These weapons have a targeting reticle the size of your screen and can dispatch your mech under two seconds. I AM NOT JOKING. Personally, after getting killed and frustrated for some time, I simply stopped caring. If it bothers you, you get killed. Really, and I figured out how to deal with them, since their biggest disadvantage is the fact...they don't know how to play. Relying too much on their OP weapons, their general maneuvering is predictible and they don't actually know squat about aiming.

The community. I've browsed the forums there. I don't know how to say this nicely, so I'll say it like this. Exteel's community is...like a repeated kick in the crotch. I mean, really, when you get a glimpse of the people who live off all the drama, flaming and whining there, you'll be disgusted. These...people with high post counts who give themselves authority and do their own little segregation, deciding who's a "ProSteeler" and who's a noob. I mean, there's this one guy who insults EVERYONE, no matter the circumstances, if you're either asking an innocent question or just making a polite statement or, his ultimate prey...expressing your opinion. You'd basically have to be Jesus Christ himself to think of a post from which this guy couldn't find an excuse to make comments about your intelligence or how much you're terrible at life itself.

Overall, when criticizing the two most important aspects of any online game, playability and the community, I'd say DR was actually superior to its sibling, Exteel, though I agree playing alone truly does turn itself into a monotone, lifeless, grindfest. But then again, DR was never designed for radical players...ask anyone. It's a casual game.
