Are the developers listening?
#70959 - 07/28/08 03:47 AM

The developers are slowly killing this game. The pvp ranking system is ruining pvp entirely, everyone is so afraid to lose rating they run for entire matches. Or get a kill and run to tie, especially mages. Not to mention the hostility in pvp these days, myself included. Its no longer fun, its a chore. Its not, "damn, i lost" its "********** i lost rating" blah blah. I try not to care about rating, but it does make it better to get matched against someone thats closer to my skill/gear level, but waiting 10 minutes for a fight is ridiculous, and waiting that long only to have some rating junky or scared newb that doesn't want to lose so they run the whole time to stalemate, or if they manage to get one kill on one of mine, or even maybe one up, they run to tie or win. Where is the fun in that, and how can i let it go when i get it on a constant basis. Its not fun, its aggravating.

The rating system should be done away with, there are better ways to set match making. The problems its creating far out way the good. And with the way people run during whole matchs, avoid the que etc the ratings have little meaning so why have them at all.

Whats the point of playing anymore, pvp has gone to crap, i can't get a match half the time. I'll get 2 maybe 3 in an hour, only to have some halfwit run for 7 minutes.

All the pve is the same, grind and farm grind and farm grind and farm. The only new stuff is a skill here and there, some nerfing of some skill, another pvp killing aspect. NEW items, woooo, more crap to flood the market, so you can never find what you really want cause the chance for it to drop for you keeps getting lower and lower. Trading is a joke, and the only half decent way to reliably get our mythics has been reduced to uselessness, and a major time sink. Thats right i'm talking about sally, who is nearly impossible to find, expensive, and doesn't even get to restock anymore on the off chance that she got something good and someone bought it.

Yeah its easy to farm and get rbs, i've got pages and pages of em. Not much of it is really what i want.

Sure we're getting a new dungeon soon, but is it really going to be much different, something truly fresh? Balzak was nice for a week or so. Its just like any other dungeon, same mobs different color.

I'm losing my faith entirely in the developers and moderators. They seem to have turned a deaf ear to the community. I haven't seen them in game, or on the forums other than to announce some new patch fix to clean up another mess thats resulted from this latest heave.

Why do you think so many veterans have quit playing. Half of the top pvpers are gone, some have even gone so far as to delete their accounts.

Its getting harder and harder for me to really want to continue. I bought a good friend of mine a retail box, he's only played about 2 hours, and hasn't been on in over a week. I haven't had the chance to talk to him about but i'm betting he's gone back to wow(if someone flames for that...)

How bad is it that I bought the retail box, and i'm already fed up with this game, I really think that only reason i've stuck around so long is i have nothing to fall back on at this point. This was a great game, but its going down hill fast, and i'm not the only one that thinks so.

If the developers are listening at all anymore, who are they taking their input from. Taking, not getting, you get input from everyone that gives it, where are they taking it from. Are they really only listening to a few veteran players, only level 100s? Who, cause i'm not seeing any feedback on some of the issues at hand.

This whole "issue" with ranger weapons swapping its pretty heated, i've seen no word from the "boss man" or any QA people, nothing from programmers, or their leads, i know that some of these guys at least post on occasion, but i've not seen anything other than the official announcements on regular stuff. Only thing that any sort of developer or moderator has been the deletion of several posts by one person or another.

I could keep ranting but i'm tired.

I want to support this game if it becomes what its capable of, but the way things are going right now thats never going to happen. I want to see more action and support from the lead developers, it seems inaction is the norm now. Half done and incomplete, how many fixes were there from the last heave? Started at what build 121 live, now we're up to build 137, which we have no patch notes for.

I thought I was the only person who noticed the lack of Dev attention in-game. I know we get ALOT more attention from the big people than other games, but that attention has been lessening frequently.

I kinda like the diabloesque way of style this game has right now. And I love exploring all new dungeons and new quests when they throw in a new Chunk. Also, I think the PvP-rating system is good. But that's that's not what I wanted to say...

I wanted to tell you that you can log on to the Developers chat at Twnstn US time office-hours (evenings for me at GMT time). There you can give your thought directly to them live, and hear what they have to say about things.

Indeed, Anson and Zliten come there on a regular base, and sometimes an artist logs in too. The attention given in-game isnt actually less in my opinion. Ive spoken to Stephen once and a few times with Crickette past 2 weeks.

You have to know, that besides we are a bit used to that a dev sometimes logs in, its not part of their actual job. Anson and Zliten have their webcam on real much while it isnt even included in their job, for examle.

The devs are still the ones we know, and because that is the case, they will continue to try and make everyone happy with either pve or pvp content/mechanics. PvP is hard to make right, expecially because of the different levels, skills and gear.

Umm, why are they going there on a regular basis? Shouldnt they be interacting HERE with the community, both ingame and on the boards? I saw Stephen more on the Realm ingame then I've seen him here ingame.

Well, being on available on a chat makes them be able to actually do some work at the same time. Being in-game is usually just needed during tests, after patches and such. And since most users of the forums is eager to help where we can, the Devs don't have to waste to much time here either. If needed, they step in. But as RMG said, the Devs are way more active in the forums on this game than in any other I've seen.

Indeed, now that I exclusively work on Dungeon Runners I can now keep 100% of my focus on DR. In return I've been able to log into the game (various worlds) and talk more publicly as Crickette. I've always played on an alt, which is my 'secret' account (muahahaha) just so I can check things out without drawing too much attention to myself. Not that I hate attention, not at all....I just don't want to always cause a distraction when I want to see what you boys and gals are discussing.

Please keep in mind the devs are trying to finish up Chunk #4 - Posses is taking a lot of work and they are trying to pass that off to our QA team as soon as possible. Even though 'it's finished when it's finished' the devs do certainly care about timing because we don't like making you guys wait

There's some good feedback on PvP, thank you. Could pvp be improved, yes, absolutely. PvP, by nature, is one of those game aspects that will always need to be addressed as long as it is around. So I don't think you've seen the end of what the devs have to offer here. And I think it will continue to evolve, one a step at a time. It's such a tricky area for any game to get right yet it's oh so easy to mess up - especially when it's all done after launch. Hang in there and keep up it up with the input.

And yeah, we still have devs (real, actual devs) in game - both noticed and unnoticed ones.

Minor comment/thought on pvp:
I don't do pvp, but I check out the threads on it just out of curiosity, and the main complaint that I hear/read from the ones who enjoy it is how hard it is to get a match. Now, I would venture that's something the developers can do nothing about. Getting matches with people your level will not be any easier until there are more people of your level, i.e. when the player base has grown enough that the Pvp Server is nearly full whenever you or anyone else logs into play there.

I have a very hard time finding groups to join whenever I log in. Every single time I log in to play I open the Who's Online window and set the groups tab to show only joinable groups, and I have seen one once, in the time I have been playing, which is a couple of months now. That's not the devs' fault. The player base is just too small and until it has grown significantly there will be some problems with both pvp and grouping that we will just have to learn to live with.

Well said, I agree a full 100%. Now that the box came out, the PvP server became a bit more popular, and I can definitely see improvement betweent the first PvP-patch (When it came in) and right now. Its just a matter of time and a matter of tell your friends how awesome DR is.

thats not even an issue so much of the player base being too small, it is primarily because most people simply dont open their groups, and if there arent people opening groups then there wont be groups to join either.
