Hunnerd Action
#69517 - 07/23/08 12:02 AM

Need some help with this one...

Problem: Hunnerds get bored and leave.

Solution: ???

Okay, so I don't have an answer, but I'm hoping someone will be able to come up with something based on this:

(Stick with me... I know we can't expect the same from DR, but...) I used to play MUDs back in the day, particularly because when you 'wiz'ed (hit the top level and/or urinated), you had the option of doing some development. As long as you took time to do a little LPC (a predefined form of C and/or a Licensed Professional Counselor -- but you can only do the latter with his or her permission, mind), you could present your idea to the owner of the MUD and go to work on your area (my coffee house rocked!).

Obviously, we're in a totally different paradigm here with a for profit venture, advanced coding, paid devs, ad nauseum... But it seems like there could be some way for hunnerds to contribute such that they feel more invested in the game; so that they stick around in part to see how their contribution is received.

I know the idearunners site is sort of a means of doing that, but it's too far removed. I'm hoping for something more direct (but I also realize we're talking about a lot of teen hunnerds who would like nothing better than rename all locations after body parts and whatnot). So I'm leaving it at this, and hoping one of you is smarter than I am (pffft) and can come up with the answer.

The end.

I think he needs a solution because DR gets boring with repeating the same thing over and over again

No matter what higher achievement is created, players will continue to quickly find the boundaries and so this is a problem that will always exist in games. There is, of course, the idea of setting another threshold of 200, and adding another layer of difficulty or creating new dungeons.

I get you Tingus.

I don't see the Devs opening code, cause like you stated, can't trust the weee ones.

Try this, Legend Runner has this website over there called The Townstons or somethin. He has a lot of outdated information on the site. By helping the site you yourself will be involved and who knows from there. We may one day rule...... bizzarosten.

Running such a huge Wiki makes it hard to have everything up to date 24/7, especially when the new chunks even with the smallest of changes to the game may change a whole section of information.

Many players though are really eager to report if they see an error. Hey, even LR and I have helped each other out at times. We don't see our sites as competition, but just more help for players.

Many players is eager to help with an error, but not with content as much as just report a problem. That's why both LR (they're only 2 active crewmembers there now) and me (all gone, I'm alone now) appreciate every time we get some help.

Oh, speaking of wich: LR, you should find some form to put on your Contact Info page, preferably with some kind of verification (like this) so bots don't autospam. This will make the casual surfer to be able to report an error to you without going through the whole trouble with becoming a member. People are lazy.

We are working on that Contact page along with the new mainpage. It'll all come soon, dont worry. But reporting errors is easier through the wiki itself tho. Just throw stuff into my talk page.

Next to that, altho people are lazy, a wiki is from everyone to everyone, meaning you can just login and change it, no big deal.
