Very simple, have a gear% requirement. Somewhere low-70-80.

This will not only force players to have to mix/match and sacrifice to fall within the limit, but it will force greater varieties of builds and overall more exciting pvp than the current "I am 101% geared, I win" norm.

So are you saying that all of the level 100's who farm non-stop to get gear are going to have to gimp themselves for this tournament? No, bad idea.

Or they could spend a few hours creating a new character.

No, you use your noggin. Why should a 100 gimp him/herself and may not have the spare slot anyway.

It'd be a tournament to test skill, not who has the most time on their hands to farm gear. I only suggest this because people seem to be throwing around 'skill' left and right as if their 102% didn't have anything to do with it.

but hey, if you always want that as your crutch, I understand, didn't think too many people would be interested in real - equal footing- pvp anyways with some of the posts I've read.

Edit: Also, a 100 could just throw their primary gear into the bank and farm up a new 70~% set to compete. Another answer you'd deduct if you decided to think before flaming

First: Welcome to the boards.

Second: PvP is currently where the Devs want it to be so it wont be changing any time soon so get used to it.

Third: No need to be insulting or rude because YOU don't like the fact that not everyone is going to agree with your idea.

Seems like your "idea" is less about real skill and more about gimping the higher level player's so YOU will have a better chance of getting some cheap wins....

With the proper mix of gear and skill and luck (at ANY level) lower level players can beat the highest level players who are wearing their best gear.

Take some time to read through past forum postings and learn about something before you speak. We understand that you are new here but that will only last for so long before it's not an excuse for poor posting....

This is about a pvp tournament, not a regular ranked duel. There will be no prize to a win besides bragging rights and climbing the tournament ladder. I did not ask to change the PvP mechanic

I don't understand why this is such a ludicrous suggestion...players on equal footing dueling each other? One will have to construct their outfit carefully in order to allow for enough offensive ability without giving up too much end/resist.

I'm not trying to steal rank from already engrained 100+% players. I'm trying to suggest a median where everyone can compete that is fun and won't be about who has the best rainbows.

I don't even think you read, or comprehended fully, my post, so I'll make things clearer for you:

I am not recommending this to be added to the games features, I merely mean for this to be organized by the player base.

Less about skill and more about gimping the high level characters? What is this game without gear? Think about it. Two naked players fighting each other. The person with the best strategy/skill will win the naked fight. I'm merely suggesting this with a twist, an allowed 70-80% to customize another dueler/character.

Please don't be so presumptuous, I'm only trying to suggest what I genuinely think would be a fun idea.

Naked, fight...no one would win, get in a pratice match with a friend and watch how much damage your naked toon does with a punch or kick.

Of coarse its mostly about gear, its an rpg, its not Halo. If you've got so much skill why can't you beat us with better gear? Think before you speak of things which you have little understanding.

As for the power % limit idea, it can be faked. Guess what, i can take of all of my gear, stick in in the bank or drop it on the groud, log out and back in, and still have the exact same power rating. Also, if i were to put on all lvl 15 gear and have all lvl 15 gear in my inventory, I still have the same power rating shown, even though technically, i should have 100% power. Which shows that every peice of gear you're character has on them, in the bank and inventory is taken into account. I went for 97% power rating to 98% power rating, i didn't change any gear on my toon, all i did was sell some purple items that i didn't need/use.

SO, in theory, i could get a character with 70%ish power rating showing, and still be fully skittled in play. All i would have to do is hold on to some crappy gear in the bank.

It doesn't matter if someone has 101% power if they don't know how to use it.
