Build help
#68465 - 07/17/08 09:27 PM |
What I am trying to accomplish with my character is to have the aoe of a mage and single target attack of a paladin/fighter. Basically I plan on using soul rend, holly roller for single target damage and righteous stomp for some mitigation/dmg with intel increasing their damage. As far as aoe goes whatever the appropriate aoe is and also some ranger abilities like gaseous blast(? I forget the name). My stats right now mainly include intel and end, with a bit of agility so I can actually hit something in melee with the aid of acidic blight to lower defense. As I level I plan to use BSoL for damage mitigation. My question is after BSoL becomes good for me should I respec out of end and put stats exclusively in intel and agi? Also, as far as passives go, I'm using gym freak, bookworm, and mental prowess; should there be any deviation from this? I'm not entirely sure what type of gear I should be using, but I am assumming high intel gear with +movement speeds. I am also unsure if sword/shield should be used here or perhaps dual wield. Any constructive criticism would be helpful. Has anyone tried this build? I have rethought a few things and I think it would more beneficial to use a ranged weapon instead since I'm already pumping into agility. I am not sure if crossbows or shotguns are the way to go. I'm leaning toward crossbows because of their faster shooting speeds, but other than that I'm not sure if there is any other difference between the two. Edited by clyp_85 (07/17/08 11:39 PM) |

Quote: A Divine Inquisitor is an excellent fighter/mage combination, in my opinion. And pumping stats into AGI doesn't mean you have to go ranged; my new AGI fighter build is pretty effective. Divine Inquisitor runs along these lines; Soul Rend in left click, Holy Roller, Righteous Stomp, Ring of Fire, Divine Ascendancy, Bookworm, Mental Prowess, Average BMI/Gym Freak (up to you), and Way of the Roo, with Crispy Critters in right-click. You can use shadow or ice instead of fire spells, of course. I know there's no swivel arm action, but I think spell damage makes up for it. I used this build from level 20 to 32 and it more than got the job done. -------------------- - Sarge I saw God cry in the reflection of my enemies |

Currently I find that crossbows are working rather well for me. The thing about single target damage with melee weapons is that outside of holy roller and soul rend I don't have much options, but with the crossbow at least I still do decent single target damage without a magic ability, plus poison shot recharges rather quickly (.5 secs) compared to soul rend of the same rank in this case and the intel will pump out the poison damage even further I believe. Overall I think the dps is higher, but I haven't really tested that out, it just seems as if I'm killing things faster. I am still using righteous stomp, however. |

Does Poison Shot do more DoT than Soul Rend? I honestly can't say, I've never played a Ranger for very long. Butcher does a good bit of damage in one swing if you go with 2Handers, and Fear of Gosh does some damage (not alot, though, I know). -------------------- - Sarge I saw God cry in the reflection of my enemies |

Soul rend does more DoT, however since poison shot has a shorter recharge time I can continuously keep it on a mob so over time poison shot wins over for me. This for me means that soloing a boss should be easier if my sustained single target dps is higher. I'm not sure if poison shot can stack, but even if it can't my regular ranged damage would still be high and crits will help also. With melee while waiting for soul rend and holy roller to recharge for single target damage for my regular melee attack would be really weak especially with me putting nothing into strength and having a slow melee attack speed because Way of the Roo would take away some damage from mental prowess. That would also have me using 4 passives not leaving room for the amount of attacks I would like in my bar for different situations. Another plus for me is that Average BMI takes away less mana than gym freak, but my endurance does suffer, which should be meaningless once I get BSoL ranked up. |

Poison skills stack once, so after a couple poison shots, you want to wait for the effect to wear off. |

Soul Rend's cooldown is weapon-based. Ergo, Soul Rend may be more powerful if you're using a fast weapon in your main hand (I dual-wield). I may test this once my funds are back up (my class switch, re-spec, and re-gear cost me a small fortune), to see which is better. Because Poison Shot is also weapon-based, both skills technically cooldown at the same rate, provided the weapons in question have the same speed. Cleave, Holy Roller, Butcher, Shiver Shot, and Noxious Shot are also weapon-based. Hence, it's not as much a question of speed, as much as a question of damage and preference. I'm not sure which is better for fighters yet; dual-wielding or 2-handers? That choice would certainly make all the difference as a 2-handed variable skill cooldown would be quite long. -------------------- - Sarge I saw God cry in the reflection of my enemies |

I do think soul rend is actually more powerful, but dps wise I think poison shot would win out in dps if we're ignoring resistances. I do have a lvl 25 fighter using sword/shield so I only equip the freakin' fast and ludicrous 1h weapons, but I can't remember the cooldown of soul rend. My other character that I started after this post, (now level 17), has a cool down of shiver shot and poison shot of .5 seconds and with a slothful shotgun is .6 seconds I believe. Ranged weapon speeds differ from melee speeds, so a normal x-bow has a faster fire rate than a normal melee weapon I believe. I am also hesitant to go melee because to be effective I am going to have to spread my stats out more too I think, but I haven't really gone over it. The way I see it is that I will need agility, strength and intel and I could probably use equipment to cover end. If I go ranged I only really need to worry about agility and intel and maybe put some points in end if needed, but again equipment should cover that as well. As far as 2h vs dual I think generally 2h is best for taking down bosses, especially with that 2h swivel skill and dual wield offers better dps when it comes to normal mobs. Edit: Also I found this thread on intel based fighter. I find it kind of impressive, but I think in the end the experimenter concluded that even though it's good it lacks certain things a pure build does, which makes sense, but they go into whats lacking. There is also a video. http://boards.dungeonrunners.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=45091&page=4&fpart=1&vc=1 Edited by clyp_85 (07/20/08 02:21 AM) |

Ah, I see now. I was unaware that ranged skill's cooldowns were handled differently. I don't know much about rangers. Interesting link... I may go more in-depth into my AGI fighter, then, in a similar style, to get really conclusive results. -------------------- - Sarge I saw God cry in the reflection of my enemies |
