Bling Gnome Parade
#67159 - 07/11/08 11:44 AM

For discussions relating to the Bling Gnome Parade:

Official Forum Announcement

The idea is to get MANY bling gnomes together, as many as possible. I want to get as many screenshots as I can

Many may be familiar with the Pocket D parties in City of Heroes...I'm going for a similar kind of thing here. While there may not be anything MINDBLOWING, I still think this can be a lot of fun. We can all hang out and chat while we show off with our in-game toys.

I'll float between worlds and instances, but I DO NEED volunteers to help coordinate this event since I won't be able to be everywhere at once. As a volunteer you'll be talking to me as well as other volunteers in a centralized location. We need roughly 9 people or so for this, but no more. If you are interested in helping out and you are SURE you can make it please send me a PM with your in-game name and email address. You do NOT have to have a bling gnome in order to be a volunteer, nor do you have one in order to view the parade. Everyone is encouraged to come and participate.

The number of instances we use all depends on the level of participation we see. PvE worlds have priority over PvP worlds, but non-member PvE worlds have priority over the membership only worlds. Depending on how things go we may be able to cover everything. We'll use global chat to pass on new information.

I'm sure I'll be multitasking like mad, so I encourage everyone to capture YouTube videos of the actual parade, screenshots, etc. I guess this is sort of our version of a flash mob, but gnome style

Thanks and I hope to see everyone there!

Poo

Thursday night was great for me! I'm traveling for work next week, so have plenty of free time from my hotel room at night. Unfortunately, I'll be flying home Friday night.

I guess I'll have to console myself by seeing the midnight show of Dark Knight next Thursday instead !

Crap. I'm sorry, Ripper.

It officially became Friday for couple reasons - when asked, many people preferred a Friday over a Thursday. I also knew it would be a really late time for our European people, as well, much too late for a weeknight.

We'll do more of these though. Now that I'm on DR full time I'm trying to think of more stuff. Suggestions are good

(Our PR team thought of this idea, so I can't take credit for the concept of this one.)

1. Hahaha, you really need to learn to figure out the timezones better. ^^ 7:30 PM CST is 00:30 GMT. I often find the "Server downtime"-messages being off. Just add 5 hours on your Austin-time for GMT.

2. A Massive Bling Gnome Online Parade (mbgop?) sounds really awesome! Although it's 2:30 at night for Nica and me so we're not sure we'll be able to attend. Also we're going to meet some relatives and such earlier that day...
We talked about trying to get a few hours sleep later that evening so we can be up again for the parade, but I can't promise anything... We'll do our best though.

07:30 hours CDT is 13:30 hours GMT. Lol

7:30 PM is 19:30 hours, which would be 01:30 hours GMT.

CDT is -6, not -5. EST is -5. The times in the announcements are hit or miss, sometimes right and sometimes wrong. Even though I live in the States I go by GMT, so the down-time messages have a tendancy of confusing me.

It's CST, not CDT.
I got both Austin, TX and Swedish (GMT+2) in the tray on my computer. It's 1 there now and 8 here, thus 7 hours minus the 2 (since I'm in GMT+2) equals +5 hours from CST to GMT.

On this keyboard the D and S are in funny spots (it's a public access thing at work) so holding shift throws it off.

Sorry.

Anyway, it doesn't change my point. Lol

Just in case no one noticed, we have CST and CDT. Central Standard Time and Central Daylight Time. It is daylight savings here in the states right now. I checked but not everyone does Daylight savings and they do it at different times.

Haha, this is making my brain hurt Indeed, we're at -5 now but we'll go back to -6 once our time changes from CDT back to CST. We Americans like to make things more complicated than they need to be. That's why we generally don't use the metric system when we know, yeah, we probably should.

Do we have all of this settled now? Does everyone know what time this will occur for their timezone? Let's work it out now if we don't And heck, if I'm ever wrong on a timezone please correct me. I'm horrible with knowing what time it is HERE, let alone overseas.

The last Sunday in October we'll turn back the clocks an hour, but I'll make sure to whisper if you get it wrong in the future.

Sweet thanks for the Time converter I will keep that close.

As a side note you might want to keep that little page handy too. Congress can change Daylight Savings Time whenever they want....
Quote:

Since 1996 European Summer Time has been observed from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October; previously the rules were not uniform across the European Union.[76] Starting in 2007, most of the United States and Canada observe DST from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November, almost two-thirds of the year.[86] The 2007 U.S. change was part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005; previously, from 1987 through 2006, the start and end dates were the first Sunday in April and the last Sunday in October, and Congress retains the right to go back to the previous dates once an energy-consumption study is done

The reason I know this is because last time they changed it I had to install an update patch on all 1600 computers on campus. (and it messed up half of them)

So it looks like when LM chnages his clock in October we will be closer together until we change our clocks in November.
Amazing how congress can bring us closer together

It all works out so perfectly for me im so glad

Im going to the midnight showing of batman on thurs so I dont have to worry bout that on friday and I tend to not head out to party or whatever till around 9ish. So it all works out just perfect.

On a side note i've been considering putting a Dungeon Runners montage together, if you would call it that, showing off all sorts of aspects of the game and I think it would help seening as most of the vids i've watched on youtube are outdated and most are low lvls, I think if its done by a higher lvl, it might look a little better.

I'm working on one right now, though it won't cover everything- it's all solo and no CB on this one, but I do get Geebus, a lot of dungeons and environments, most of the bosses, etc...

I'm still working on footage, though, and I'm trying to work out some bugs. If it ever gets up on the web I'll post it in the forums.

My Dad bought a digital camera and gave me the software that came with it: Presto! Videworks. I used it for the first time with this current project I'm working on, and it was pretty easy to get familiar with.

Of course, everything is relative, but if you can find your way around the internet with decent ease ('decent' is about the most gracious I can be with regards to my own prowess), you can probably figure it out.

The Bling Gnome Parade was alright, It was a fun little event. I tried making a video with hypercam, recorded the whole thing, then at the end remembered that hypercam does not record full screen games worth a crap. Didn't take any screenshots either. maybe I can take some screens out of the few bits and pieces the video did manage to take.

I was uploading a video at the time, so I couldn't move around very well due to the extra super-duper lag, but I got a couple of shots, including of a group of us playing around after the festivities.

one overlooking the crowd

Lol that christmas tree thing was pretty cool. I was on World 1, townston 1 the whole time, had a nice little chat with DallasDS, more of an interview really, telling everyone of his past game development expirience and what not, got to meet CuppaJo and saw CricketteParade a little here and there too. It was fun when we were all running around and around town but then it just sort of turned into a big "someone is dropping rainbows, lets all stand in the same spot" thing, followed by a "OMG I DIDN'T GET ONE" manifesto.

I'm still looking forward to future events however!

EDIT: ScreenShots!!!
