How to install Dungeon Runners from a copy
#64007 - 06/25/08 12:23 PM

General purpose:

The purpose of this guide is to instruct you how to successfully install Dungeon Runners from a copy. Why would you want to do this?

* So you could download it just once, but install it on multiple computers on your network. In my case, I have DR loaded on three computers in my house. I have it downloaded and installed on my primary machine and could easily install it on the other machines by simply copying the files over and following these steps.

* Copy your installation to a flash memory device like a USB key or an iPod. When I go to LAN parties, I do this so I can share games like Dungeon Runners and Exteel.

Detailed Instructions:

1. Using Windows Explorer, locate the Dungeon Runners folder (In most cases, it will be found in C:\Program Files\Dungeon Runners, personally, I use D:\Games for my games)
2. Right-Click on the folder and choose Copy
3. Click on the Program Files Directory folder on the target computer (or in a custom location, if you prefer, such as D:\Games)
4. Right-Click on the folder you selected and choose Paste
5. After the files have finished being copied, you will see a new folder called 'Dungeon Runners'
6. Visit the new directory and locate the “DungeonRunners.exe” file
7. Right-click on the file name and choose the option 'Create Shortcut'
8. You may wish to Right-Click and Send Shortcut To Desktop to have an easily accessible shortcut for playing the game
9. Open the new shortcut to activate the launcher (don't try to execute the launcher by itself - use the shortcut you just created).

FYI the shortcut properties should look like this:

Target: “C:\Program Files\Dungeon Runners\DungeonRunners.exe”

Start In: C:\Program Files\Dungeon Runners\

When you double-click your new shortcut, it'll initiate the launcher and should create registry keys. If you need additional updates, you'll have the ability to download them from the launcher.

Hope this helps!

Update:

I just copied DR over to a fresh machine, but forgot one important set of steps:

1) Find the Launcher Folder (typically "c:\program files\ncsoft\launcher" and copy it over to the new machine, too (on my new machine, my copied folders are c:\games\dungeon runners\ and c:\games\launcher\)

2) Double-click NCLauncher in the newly created Launcher folder to quickly install the launcher

3) Follow the steps in the first post

This entire process had me up and running DR on a new machine in less than 5 minutes...

Big Caveat: If the PC you copied DR from had a higher resolution, when you launch DR on the new machine, you might not be able to see all the screen! Simply hit alt+enter to go to windowed mode, resize the screen, login and change your resolution.

Update:

This might only work for Windows XP, not Vista. Last night, at a LAN party, one of my friends copied over the files and tried to follow these instructions. Here's what happened:

1) The Launcher portion worked perfectly
3) The shortcut worked and initiated the launcher
3) DR was recognized as installed and needing to be updated
4) Instead of simply downloading the patch, the launcher tried to download the entire game file (500+MB)

The files he copied over weren't mine, they were from another friend, so I don't know if this was a Vista issue or if there were missing game files from the source drive. If anybody uses Vista and tries this, please post whether you were successful or not.

Maybe I am too simple minded. I downloaded the program and got a file entitled "Install Dungeon Runners 100" -- Yep that was a while ago.

I copied that entire file onto a CD, carried it to another Vista computer, and ran it. Worked perfectly. The first thing it did was to install the patches up to V 120, which did take a while, but not nearly as long as the full download.

Am I too dumb to know what I did??

;o)
