Money and Loot? Need help with DR economics
#60039 - 06/01/08 01:39 PM

Hi everyone, im a noob and i have been playing DR for a week, and I am a lvl 23 shadow mage. I have been getting the hang of everything, but I am still confused about 1 thing: money. Im pretty poor and i only have like 300k cash, and I just started to farm bosses like snow chief, but im not sure what to do with the loot. If its usable to me I wear it, but I get most of my good items from trading in kings coins. I usually get a lot of gold and purple items, which I sell to the merchant, as I dont think anyone in trade channel would even respond to buying and I dont see how people make like 100k/run on bosses. Am I doing something wrong here? i usually sell my purple items for like 1k to merchant. Any ideas as to how I could not be so poor? (im just leveling and running through all areas of the game for now).

300k gold for a lvl 23 is not so bad. I make 100k/run with my level 100 on Ratty, but so much gold is not possible at low levels. You can make money with quests and you get more loot than on soloing at normal when you play on insane or in groups (or groups on insane).

There is no Economics per-se as you cannot buy/sell directly from players. Player to player, the best you can do is trade or give items.

Everything that you dont use, you need to take to the Merchants to sell, which includes Audrey, the Sally's and the Sam's.

KILL, KILL, KILL, KILL then SELL, SELL, SELL, SELL!!

Kings Coins are used to buy rare purple and Mythic Rainbow items from KC Sally or KC Sam as well as more regular items from the 3 KC vendors standing by the bank in Townson.

If anyone is telling you they are getting 100,000 gold per boss fight, and they are below lvl 100, they're either mistaken, outright lying to you or very confused. There's no way to potentially get that much gold in the current build per boss fight at any level but the highest (100), in a group and on Insane difficulty.

In the old days Gold was easy to get and it was possible for people to accumulate 10's of millions or 100's of millions of gold coins over time, but now if you get 10-15,000 gold per boss fight you are doing really well.

Ahem, from levels 40-55ish you can easily get 100k gold per run from rotgut on insane, selling loot and what not. And with some help from a high level and a lvl 1 lead you can get 150K+ from rotty at level 20-40ish. And running Balzack with a group on insane you can easily make 150k gold in a run.

At lvl 23, the only way to that kind of gold is to get help from someone much higher level than you are.

When you say "per run" do you mean the entire level or just the boss fight at the end of the level? There's a BIG difference between the two and what they'll give as far as the amount of gold is concerned.

I'm sorry but IMHO using the "level 1 as group leader" trick is just altering gameplay to get an atypical amount of gold per run.

It's been discussed here at length, some find it perfectly acceptable to do, some consider it borderline cheating and some could care less either way, but no matter what side you're on, it's not the normal way to play the game...

Playing the game it was designed to be played does not oridnairaly yeild the amount of gold you are quoting at the stated levels.

It probably goes without saying, but just in case you're unaware of the basics:

You increase the amount of loot/money in two ways -- the greater the level of difficulty, and the more people in your group.

Your best bet is to farm bosses in a max size groups on insane. Keep farming SC for a few more levels, and then switch to Rotty when you can.

I agree... with groups on rotty and balzcak, 100k a run with gold and items can be regularly accomplished, and is done frequently.

I also agree with the post a little lower about using the "lvl 1 in the group trick." Aside from lvl 100's (or other quite higher levels) using it, the health +% given to baddies when farming with a lvl 1` in the group takes so much more time and so many more pots, to get that higher % loot. It IS a good deal higher, but in my experience doing three "regular runs" with good drops makes more money/items and is more yielding and satisfactory than doing one long drawn out slash fest to get the same gain with a lvl 1 in the group. BUt that's just imo and my experience of course.

I regularly use the lv 1 trick with Bogey. Sometimes the group consists of some other lvl 100's but more often than not it's lowers. With Bogey, a lvl 44, a lvl 55, and De Mule we got +4650 increase. Took maybe 10 minutes total time and I netted about 170k and that was not even getting all the yellows.

Ban, Thom, Bogey, a lvl 69, and De Mule hit at +6150 for 3 runs total and netted just shy of 700k for Bogey.....

I have started stock pilimg Tucks pads for my Bling Gnome when I get him:)

Some tips:

Sell yellow and purple items, they give good cash.

Trade only Rainbow items - (Sometimes purples if it's really really really really good.) - Also dont spam rainbows (please )

Don't buy items from the vender's in town, they sell crap.

DO buy from the Kings Coin people, but only if you really see a new item.

DO buy from rainbow Sam / Sally

That's about all I can think of...
Other then dont worry to much about gold, it's easy to get

Hmmm... clearly I need to schedule a playdate with this group for Ting. (Don't worry; he's been much less cranky since we changed his bedtime.)
