Make KCs Tradable?
#59541 - 05/26/08 09:16 AM |
Thank you for clicking my tread Make KCs Tradable? READ THIS UNTIL THE END! I MEAN IT UNTIL THE E N D!- I've worked hard on it and I kindly ask you to read it until the end. Okay I understand why Gold isn't trade able, I've played D2 and well. Like in D2 here gold doesn't have much value I remember being offered like 9999999 Gold and turning it down because I can get that from looting someone's money after I kill them in PvP.... Newayz the moral of that story was that "Gold isn't tradable because it has no value- how can you trade something with no value?" But what about KCs?Okay First off let me say im level 18 and I only have 26 KCs I don't know how much you level 100s have in KCs(Maybe thousands?) Okay I understand that because of the PvP system that rewards KCs(I love it) and the easy KCs quests that KCs would inflate after everyone is farming it to trade for some nice rainbow. But this is how I look at it... The Downsides (The biggest downsides I’ve can see) One: Sure the downside is that KCs might lose its value per coin quickly after level 100s start farming it for so long that they are able to sleep and farm at the same time Two: Low levels might not be able to farm it as effectively as a level 100 that the low levels lose out. The Weak get weaker while the strong get stronger (I would say poor and rich but no, weak and strong makes more sense) The benefits are: One: A pricing system... I mean me I don't know what’s worth more... (insert name of rainbow here) or a (insert another rainbow here) or even a (insert a third rainbow here) With a pricing system it would be easy all I have to do is PM my friend and go "How much does a (name of item) go for?" he replies "200 KCs" Easy (I don't know the name of any rainbows I’m only level 18 sorries) Two: People can make KCs from Farming and PvP of the two PvP is easier all you have to do is win to farm it, it would take 15mins for each few coins(until you get to the chests) and PvP is a faster and easier choice(If you don't win a game out of 3 games... We have a problem)- Back on the topic. This will promote PvP... I understand that they are players who do not PvP and are proud of it(I forgot who but there is some guy on the forums with a siggy that says he never PvP'd and is proud of it) And for those players who refuse to PvP... Relic/KC quests aren't so hard just a little slower Three: It gives players more reason to grind, level, quest (especially quest since they give KCs) pretty much it gives another reason for players to be competitive and as I know a lot of players enjoy being completive why? Because the school system promotes competitiveness by the use of grades, team sports, and so on. After many years of it, it has become a part of human lives. Going back to the topic, it will give a player more reason to play and be addicted to the game and make them stay longer because it will take another step to become strong and that step is getting KCs Four: As I’ve stated above it gives more meaning and reasons to quests, I mean if I wanted items right now I farm Sissirat on insane over and over. Why do that when I go do 2 or 3 quests at the same map and go back to get four or five quests? Plus that extra xp cowbell is nice Okay now that is what I believe to be the Pros and Cons and after thinking about it I don’t believe the downsides of the release isn’t that bad. Here is my suggestion/how why I see it isn’t bad: On the topic of inflation: Honestly I don't see the inflation as a big problem I mean come on in Ragnarok 10m doesn't have value and you gotta farm it for 3 days to get it!(in ThaiRO 10m is 7baht which would be 5 cents?) still we manage the run the economy and gear ourselves. If leaving it isn’t enough for you a solution would be to make another type of Coin (OH please call it “CookieCoins” I <3 Cookies why? I don’t know) and make them tradable this doesn’t solve the solution it just slows it down. However if there was a solution to inflation, we wouldn’t be having depressions and so on right? On the Topic of the weak getting weaker and the strong getting stronger: Okay, because of the lovely balanced PvP system even one has a chance a level 17 can kill a level 100 this means the weak get a chance to catch up with the strong. Plus High level items will cost more than low level items that’s a given in any game so even though a level 100 player might be richer than me a level 18 player he still has his level 100 buddies to fight with over items. On the topic of players who don’t enjoy PvP and or competitiveness: I’ve got no answer for this, but I will say: If a player wants to uphold their moral they can still with the quest system, things will just be harder but has live ever been easy? Especially at those who hold morals who don’t totally agree with society’s views? On the Topic of DR not wanting a system like this: (The biggest problem) Okay after thinking it over, they are smart people who make DR. I mean COME ON! Look at those jokes!!! “HUBBY!” a quest back when I started to play this game it was something like “food for my hubby” or something well newayz it had “hubby” in it which is Filipino for husband and that quest won the respect of this game from me. Newayz on topic they are smart people on the team which makes this game, I’m sure they might have seen a need for some sort of currency and might had decided DR not to be played like that, that the trade system as it is might be how they want DR to be. To a certain extent the inability to trade currency makes DR just a little more softcore game. If this is the view of the Devs(wait this is the company which uses Devs right?... what does Dev stand for again?) or game designers all I have to say is: look back into history back then we used a system of Barten(typo I forgot how it was spelled) but it was a system of trading goods for goods no currency. Every country in this world uses currency (besides Zimbabwe for another reason that I will explain of someone asks me) Why? Because the world leaders saw it fit and important for the system, sure they knew that there was a sense of honor in trading goods for goods instead for money even Julius Caesar said that “Money is the most demoralizing thing in the history of mankind” yet he didn’t try to do anything about it because he understood that it was needed. At the end all this will come in a easy price… all the game designers will have to do is take off the soul bound on KCs they don’t have to make a new system of getting the currency and/or implant a new item to be used as currency. Quick and easy, don’t have to worry much about bugs but people might try something so staying on guard is a good idea. When I say this I’m talking about how people use some hack to duplicate items in D2… people might try that here… but then if they could why not just do it on a rainbow? Err well now thank you for reading my two and a half page suggestion, Thank you for making it this far. Now I would ask for you to agree with me and that criticism isn’t allowed… HOWEVER constative criticism is allowed. Good luck have fun- Thank you every much for your time -------------------- Qoute from LegendRunner "In the old days when I first started playing it was quite like [censored] a lvl 100!! I asm the guy who thinks PVP is a waste of time and resources and has adversly affected the PVE game. One of the chief joys of not having is any real economy is it keeps people level at all times. On World 7 even trading is discouraged as it it leads to scams and abuses. The same would happen if Kc's are made tradeable.....plus although I am sure you ahvent ran into this yet but KC's can be bought from Sally.....with 100 levels with over 200 mill in gold or a bit less for some KC's have value now as a way to better your chance for RB's when RB Sam is found. They are also a carrot for quests and yes even PVP. If PVP didnt have themas a reward there would be even less Players than there are now. -------------------- Ghad. Thank you for your thought out and well-written post. A lot of "new" posters don't take the time or energy to really flesh-out the ideas they put across for others to really pick apart, lol. I'm not going to do that, but the idea of having KC tradable is almost nearly the same as having gold tradable: which in and of itself is an "economy" indirectly and which it has been said by the devs (and stephen himself) that "as long as I am the lead developer on this game/project there will be no in-game economy in any fashion." Most people really like it that way and play DR to get away from gold-farmers and the players that only "play" alts to support main chars as merchants, etc. It really takes from the fun gaming experience imo. A while back some (very few people) "traded currency" in a way after a suggestion here on forums to use potions as "money" - but it crashed and burned quickly, as the cost of pots increases with every level, thus theres no stable "bottom line" and only the people that were "involved" with the idea knew what was going on. I couldn't imagine someone come up to me randomly after posting a rbw and being like "Ill give you 100 pots for it!" The same/worse would happen with KC I think. After posting a rbw, you'd get a fofillionmomilliongabillion pm's saying "ILL GIVE YOU 200 KC!! ILL GIVE YOU 400 KC!!!" etc...lol. No thanks. ...AND Audrey got wind of it and she was going to stop the distillery for mana pots altogether and said that she was going to have put a % of concentrated puker juice in the Health pots to be able to keep up with suddenly inflated demand for the stuff, and she couldn't make it at 100% strength and keep the shelves full! ![]() So, sorry to say after all your hard work (and again, a lot of us honestly do appreciate the post-quality) but I don't think the idea is going to go very far. But don't stop coming up with new ideas! ![]() |

At first, a very nice piece of work, really a suggestion where you putted some work in, good job. But you are giving the cons yourself already. Quote: And i know out of experience that when i get on trading rbs the rest of the session ill be trading rbs, while im supposed to get some xp And after all, to change such a thing there should be alot of demand for. But for so far i readed almost everyone is against it, unfortunaly because in one way i really liked the idea, i got loads of KC's and if i could them change for rbs that would be nice, i know they already invented RB sam but i only saw him 1 time and that time i couldnt buy a rb for a strange reason >.> So after all, i dont really care if this suggestion will make it to the next patch perhaps ![]() |

Reasons not to have any form of currency capable of creating a flowing economy: 1. Beggars (we already have these in terms of begging to be powerleveled, let's not give them something else to beg for). 2. Scammers (they already exist, but a flowing economy will amplify the problem a hundred fold). 3. Gold farmers (people who "farm" for gold and sell it online for real money. This is bad not only because it perverts the game, but also because this practice is heavily associated with real crimes like credit card fraud, so it must NOT be encouraged). Enough said. |

Quote: Pick apart yes! lol thats what happened to my last suggestion! It got OWNED! I'm ashamed to go and look into it hahaha well I don't mind I will keep trying my best as a fellow DR community member to come up with a solid suggestion every week(I'm running out of ideas tho T_T someone PM me something so I can write about it lol) Well it doesn't matter if you guys pick it out Honestly I don't mind the market the way it is I just thought I should try suggestion it and see what you people think, but I would agree I love DR the way it is different from WoW and all those other hardcore games(ohh all the nights and money I spend on WoW) Newayz as I said I will try my best to post a suggestion once every week lol feel free to pick it apart I'm sure sooner or later it might help the make designers think of something epic... hahha it wouldn't be fun without you guys picking it out... I MEAN! At least people are reading it and thats more than enough it makes me happy lol... things could be worse! I mean I could post something and no1 reads it no1 poses anyone.... thats just depressing plus what you guys are commenting are solid. Not stupid things without any proof and careful thought or experience behind it to back it up... SOOO suggestions from you guys are always welcomed(and everyone else) Quote: OKAY! even tho I understand how everyone says "no" to the idea and that I don't mind the answer no because I love DR as it is right now... for now this week I will keep pushing on this topic of making KC Tradable by giving solutions to the current topic, why? to improve my reasoning skills so that next weeks suggestion will be more epic... and if I abadon my own topic without trying how can I expect anyone to take me seriously? So here I go~ On the topic of Beggers: Yes this seems to be a problem, me personally I don't do that but even so I'm a level 18 and some random guy just invited me to his party and went "level me".... hahha well for this solution we got *right click on (name of player) ignore* bless the power of ignore On the topic of Scammers: like every game they are always scammers, why? I don't know I cannot understand why people will use such low technique to get a edge on other players... I mean its a game! ITS A MMO! ITS ONLINE! how sad can they be? does it make them feel superior, make them believe they are smarter than the player they scammed? or what is it? I don't know but in every game they are players like this... /rantoff (wait is rant the right term?) Okay on the topic! the best suggestion I can give is having a sticky up on the forums giving good solid techniques about avoiding scammers and people who want to link you to some website so they can download a keylogger behind your back(MapleStory), through out the years of MMO for me I've been scammed a lot of times but now I'm more mature and understand that they are scammers and I avoid them... I don't think I've been scammed for 2 years now (mostly because I'm not playing MMOs so often now days) and another good idea is sometimes instead of ads during the loading screen give tips of avoiding scams on the loading screens we could even add things like game rules or tips of playing a character better(I might write my next suggestion about this idea sounds solid to me) On the topic of websites selling KCs(if unsoulbound) for real life money and profiting off: My best suggestion for this is a idea taken from a private Ragnarok server(AnimaRO- don't try looking into it they ended up scamming all of us, at least thats what I think they said that the website got hacked and they lost all the info but I'm skeptical) Newayz on the topic my suggestion is that if a player can get enough solid evidence that a player is trying to sell in game items for real money. NCsoft will take the item from the seller and IP ban him and then sell it to the person who wanted to buy it with a 40% discount(meaning 60% of the price that they was going sell it for)(rewarding is important and a good motivation to help us on our crusade vs the evil scammers/farmers/profiters in this MMO) Things to take into note while doing this is: One: the price that the player plans to sell the items for must be a reasonable price... not like we are going to take 1KC from someone and sell it to the other player for 600USD... thats just senseless... Two: the player must have enough proof that the transaction is real... link to the website + Screenshots of PMs and so on (when I say screenshots I don't mean just one I mean something like 6) With the link to the website I believe by law NCsoft can sue them right? that will help our crusade and close them em evil websites! PS: I spend 5mins writing it... and 30mins editting it T_T Oh god my english is horrible WTB ME A EDITOR -------------------- Qoute from LegendRunner "In the old days when I first started playing it was quite like [censored] a lvl 100!! Yours points and the discussion ARE all the reasons that there isn't an economy system and everyone doesn't want one. Im pretty sure that the devs, NCSoft, players, etc, etc dont want to deal with all that crap - and neither do I. SO, the only logical and permanent solution to said "issue" is to just not have a currency/economy of which to have problems with. I think we've beat this one to the ground again sufficiently... ![]() |

The solutions you gave, particularly to gold farming, means a lot more tiresome work for NCsoft. If you ask me, more trouble than it is worth. We're doing fine without a flowing economy. We don't need one for the sake of one. |
