I was reading about the new update and I saw that "Chance for a dropped mythic item to be usable by a free player has been reduced to 5% (down from 25%)"

My question is, what does it mean for there to be a chance for an item to be USABLE? Does that mean that a non-member can pick up the item, just not equip it? Or does the item even drop? Is it a random chance on all mythic items?

I am just wondering how that system works for a non-member vs. a member.

You have understood everythign correctly. You have a 5% chance for every mythic drop for it to be non-member. You can still pick up member only mythic but not equip them. Why not use them for trade? The drop-rate for Mythic items is the same for members and non-members, so is the chance for a non-member drop.
