2h or duel wield?
#59001 - 05/20/08 06:12 AM

Okay I was wondering what would be a bigger choice 2h or Duel Wield... I already thought about it myself and even tho the idea isn't new I wanted to share it.

2handed weapons:
This is what I think about 2h builds and what they should be like Status go like this every 5 status points 3 in STR 1 in AGI 1 in END. Get STR/END and high def gear (extra attack rating always helps tho) and good skills for it would be Butcher, Cleave, Holy Roller, Retribution and so on. So pretty much what you do is:

run into mobs yelling "LEROY JENKINS" and spamming Cleave and Righteous Stomp

Pros:
Gears will be easier to get compared to trying to find Duel Wield gear
Mobbing is Hella Easy
Skills like Butcher help you take down bosses
Cons:
You miss out on the Shield
Since this Idea mostly asks that you spam skills you might run out of MP easily

Duel Wield Weapons:

Okay now I really really like this idea and wish it was playable but ill leave the playable part up to you. Now how I see Duel Wield Weapons should be is high attack speed, high Critical. Somewhat like a Assassin or a Berserker in other games O.o? Gears for it would be that which increases attack speed and critical BUT then again.... my whole DR life I don't recall seeing something like this for a Warrior sure you see them for a Hunter but a Fighter? Nope nothing... Assuming the gear does exist and my luck is horrible. The status needed would be High STR and AGI for hit and trying to get as much dps as possible this would mean we might have to sacrifice DEF gear for the needed gear. WHY high agi? because if we are going to critical we need hit... I mean whats the point of criting a zero.. WE STILL GET A ZERO! As for skills I would say 1H Swivel Arm Action, Way of the Roo, Mad Melee Mastery, The right Ward for the place your fighting in.

I personally like this Idea but there are flaws and the biggest one might just be the question... does attack speed and critical items exist for fighters?

Pros:
A build you don't see everyday
High attack speed and critical makes you a DPS power house
It might just be possible to tear up bosses in seconds(I've never been able to test the build or even go any near the idea ><)
Cons:
Possible that you might have to give up survivability for dmg meaning less armor for extra dmg = you might die.. often
Because the mobs here gang you, you might die more often than the often I've just stated before
You won't be Main Tanker, but you might be able to out dmg a mage... without mana...

lol >< What do you say?

First of all, I'm no professional when it comes to this game, but I do know that the passive skills you talked about in the Dual Wielding section are ones you will want to use no matter WHAT build you use as a fighter.

Also, the Dual Wielding build is very common for people who farm abby, and other bosses. Really, it's just a common build overall. It's actually a lot like my current one. (almost full points into str, some into end/agi. getting some more agi/end from jewelry.) I'm level 70 with about 8k hp, and 8k atk rating. Hp is low, but man I hit hard. I also have a nice crit %.

Another build for 2H weapons is this a melee deflection build. I've never experimented with it, but I'd imagine it would be something like this: Low def rating (so that you'd be getting hit, of course.) high hp, to make up for the def rating, lots of agi so that you could hit, and definably some str. #1 priority for armor would be melee damage reflection. You could do this with dual wielding, but I think it would work better with a 2h, since dual wielding is mainly for high DPS builds. Skills, other than the normal passives, would be things like Offensive Gesture and Retribution. This build would work best with bosses. Other than that it seems worthless though. :P

I run a dual wield build with dual FF axes that give +speed. I do 3str/1end/1agi and get a ton of str/end gear with some agi speckled in to make sure I don't miss. At level 56 I have like a 430ish str enough end to get 11.6k hps though my AR is kind low at like 4800. My weapons all pull a .40 speed and with 1 handed swivel it drops to like .35 I believe. It is a fun build and even though im sure it aint the uberest.

If you skim through the fighter forum and I think the general forum too you'll find a couple of other older topics and threads getting deeper into this issue - as its obviously an old one with most games. Search doesnt always work too well, I understand, but a few of those topics and threads we hashed out had a lot of info in them that I think you'd find helpful.

Hope that helps...off you go ::gently nudges the nubcake to take his first giant steps into the wide DR world in game and on forums:: lol...welcome btw

oooo sorry Necro, I also called myself a "nubcake" in pvp last week. I'll start adding a disclaimer such as this:

"....somethingseomthing "nubcake" somethingsomething." NOTE: This unlicensed use of the term "nubcake" is used without explicit permission or knowledge to/from Necro (henceforth to be referred to as the "creator" of said term). Its use is platonic in nature and the user expects no claiming rights, benefits, or priveleges in connection with its use in any way, form, or fashion to be granted by the "creator" or his subsidiaries. ALthough permission was not gained or use of said term was not pre-proposed before its use, the use of said term was used in good taste and in good humor, and that is/was its only intended use. Neither the user, the "creator," DR, NCSoft, and all/any things connected to the "term" through any degrees of separation to any of these affiliates are responsible for any reactions or outcomes that the use of said "term" may/will cause, EXCEPT for laughter and the enjoyment of reading the forums and senior players calling "noobish" players of said "term." Experiencing any bloating, brain cramping, heart attack, seizures, twitching, itching, burning, or leakage of any kind from any orifice from the reading and/or use of the "term" may be normal, but it also may not be, and if such a side effect does occur in a rare case the user and the "creator" are to be in no way legally or medically responsible - since you probably already had that problem in the first place. No really, you did.
