..XML character viewer..stupid idea..

Hmm..this character viewer, no faults or anything, also full credit to the desigenrs, however i dont like it one bit. Not naming any names..werasxxl..quite a few others contunuelsy, perhaps every day check my chracater viewer, not to help them fight me, but to copy my entire build. Is there no way you can perhaps remove me from your records? I really dont wish for my data to be viewed by random copying people. I try extremely hard to get the right builds against the right people and when someone goes on a (well desgined) website and just simply copy my data it hacks me off more than noobs standing inside me in a pvp match because im a mage..( ) I would of thought i perhaps had rights to take out my name out of the database to prevent people from copying my build. Thanks for listening BlackMagicX -------------------- ´*•.¸(*•.¸;¸;¸.•*´)¸.•*´ _ «::•°-BlackMagicX-°•::» _ "REFUSE TO LOSE" .¸.•*(¸.•*´;¸;`*•.¸)`*•¸. |

All the different Character Viewers pull the character data that you are seeing directly from the XML feed that is supplied by NCsoft. Unless NCsoft has a way for you to "opt out" from having your "Uber 1337" character data available for all to see, then you'll just have to get used to the fact that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.... |

We've also gone through this already months ago with other pvpers (not naming any other "uber" pvpers that complained) but it got to be a big hem-haw fight and the devs already stepped in and said as much as "Its not going away. People are going to be able to look at your build and you're going to have to deal with it." They also said, when people complained about some supposedly using it while IN a pvp match, that the xml doesnt refresh nearly that quick and it gives no benefit whatsoever necessarily when youre switching skills and gear while in the match. Besides that, "your" (or anyone's for that matter) build isn't "yours" - there are definitely other people that play, use the same gear/skills, tactics etc, besides yourself, so I wouldn't be so quick to worry or complain about people "copying" you. Some may do that I suppose (although Im not sure how you found such a thing out without much unecessary out of the way "detective" work unless they told you - a giant waste of your important time), but there are many others that play that you may never talk to that have a build exactly like yours - since its probably efficient and works great. As for having any sort of "rights" to anything - especially your character(s), the account, anything else you might think you have rights to for privacy etc besides your actual personal info and billing info - you don't. Not in any game, anywhere, at any time. All you get by paying $5 is the right to USE their program/servers, but in no way have any claim to its ownership or privacy - which is why the XML feed is perfectly "legal" and more than in NCSofts perogative to do with as they see fit. It's printed in the EULA when you agree to it (that no one reads). If you dont want anyone to see your gear or skills when youre NOT logged on you can strip all your gear and skills, if you really want to go through all the trouble. But someone simply knowing or even copying your build isnt going to give them any necessary boost over you to win if what you claim about how good of a pvper you are is true. Im positive that if I copied your build, you would stomp me, because I dont have as much experience as you. So, it may seem unfortunate for you, but this is water under a very, very tall bridge and doesnt need to be rehashed again. If anyone is interested they can go down this very topic and read the topic titles that were made not too far back about the very same things and find the devs position on it. |
