newbie question / log out and in
#57405 - 05/05/08 09:43 AM |
Im fairly new to all this mmorpg gaming and after trying several games I must say that I like Dungeon Runners the best. I probably have tons of questions (will read the faqs) but one question about DR is this: when playing dungeon runner and having killed the monsters on lets say level 1 of a dungeon, when I log out of the game and come back and login back later I see those monsters again in that same level so I have to kill them again (or run as fast as I can). Is this normal for a mmorpg game? Shouldnt be that hard to save those settings I think? (Im a newbie, so this may seem a silly question |

Most MMO are different. Some use world zones that mobs spawn into after x amount of time some like DR run instanced zones. that you can manulay reset or the server resets them after you have been out of the game for more then 10 min. As far as difficulty coding i would think that instanced zones are much easier to code then World zones where you could have 40 people trying to spawn different mobs in one area. I hope that this has answered your question. Now as far as what to do to stop this from runing your running expierince before you log out of game make sure that you go through the next red door in the dungeon. Example: If I just cleared lvl 2 of algeron I would want to zone up to lvl 3 before I logged off that will allow me to use the Obilisk in Townston to go back to lvl 3 and I could continue my Running. The next time that I logged into the game. |

Thanks for your reply. Your solution works as long as I don't stop the game. This afternoon I played DR and cleared 2 levels, in both levels I have put a waypoint scroll so that I can go to that level easily. Works great, but as soon as I leave the game, it is gone. This evening I started the game and I can start the levels again. My gold, strength etc is okay but as soon as I enter the dungeon (as I did this afternoon) it is as if I have to discover it again (map is black as well). When at the obelisk and saved places I can see 'No active waypoint scroll' and 'No active waypoint compass', this was not in there when I cleared the 2 levels, then there were active waypoint scrolls.' I'm sure I'm doing something wrong because I can't imagine that this is right. Little update: when I save waypoint scroll, log out of the game (or exit) and log right back in the waypoint scroll is still there and I can jump right at where I put it. So why are the waypoints I made this afternoon gone in the evening? Is there some sort of reset? Edited by Medir (05/05/08 05:51 PM) |

Your "instances" reset after 15 min of being logged off (when the servers refresh). Your last "active waypoint scroll" will thus be wiped at the same time. What dark was trying to explain to you was, after you finish said 2 levels, make sure that you find the red door to the beginning of the NEXT level and go through it. THEN WP back to town and logout. Next time you log, the game will have saved your "last red door" that you went through and you can start from there. The WP will be gone (and should be) - There is no way to keep a wp scroll past reset, as they "reset" also when the level resets (i.e. the wp scroll cant be there since the level wil be completely different). That being said like before, just make sure you always go through the red door to the next section/level you want to be in before you log out and youll start from there. A compass item is used much like making your own "last red door" (although it doesnt help you in this particular situation), but it gives you two options generally (last red door and compass WP) when you log back in. BUT, just remember that everytime you log and stay off for 15 min or longer, that everything will be reset (on purpose) since the game is based in instances. Instances are also reset manually by right clicking your name and "reset instances" - which is used when looking for elusive quest items or farming bosses. Hope that helps...good luck. |

Ah okay, that makes sense. Thanks Darkwanderer and Teclis for clearing it up. It's an addictive game! |

Don't forget the compass waypoints. They do not go away like the regular WPs until you replace them with a new one. They do however, put you back to the beginning of the level you set it on. So ... always go through the red door. This applies to side dungeons too. -------------------- Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. - Arthur C. Clarke |
