Video Card Error?
#57306 - 05/04/08 06:43 PM

The DR launcher is suddenly telling me the video card on my machine doesn't meet the minimum requirement. This is the same computer and video card I've been using to access DR for several months. I've seen the error once before, but I restarted the launcher and got right in. Now it's locking me out.

Have you upgraded drivers or DX lately? Maybe some Microsoft updates? Is this on the PTS or the live client?

Other than potentially some automatic MS updates, nothing's changed.

The live client.

Power down, try removing and reseating the card in it's slot and restart.

Alternatively, reset the driver to 640x480 resolution, power down, remove and reseat the card, power up, let windows detect it again and re-load the driver, set your resolution and refresh rate, run the plaync launcher.

I uninstalled/reinstalled DR, and updated my video drivers. Same problem.

I'm hesitant to reseat the card -- first, because I don't want to crack open the machine if I can avoid it, and second, I'm confused as to how that will help: The machine hasn't been moved or jostled, and all other video seems to be working fine. Before I try something that drastic, what's the theory behind it?

Well, it's not drastic but removing the card and re seating it will force Windows to recognize the card (again) and reload the correct low level default drivers for the card in the OS. This may correct the issue you are having with DR, and honestly it may not but at this point what do you have to lose by trying?

I've been building computers and supporting them for over 20 years so I like to at least pretend that I know what I'm talking about when it comes to hardware....

You're obviously free to ignore my suggestion but if you never resolve it any otherway, you'll have that lingering doubt in the back of your head that.... "Maybe he was right about the video card all along"

I reseated the card, but didn't notice anything when windows came back up. Was I supposed to boot the machine without the card, then shut it down and put it back?

Same problem when I tried DR again. To be precise, it gets partway through the loading process, then does this 'auto adjust in progress' screen, then crashes with the video card complaint.

I've been playing other video intensive games without problem: Tried Pirates of the Caribean, which worked, but is a poor substitute for DR. Tried Regnum; also worked; even more boring. Had to go back to playing C&C and Oblivion, which also work just fine.

So, since I already tried 'repairing' DR, then uninstalling/reinstalling completely, without luck, I'm about ready to give up on it.

I currently have the same problem. My problems began when I installed the build 118 patch. Even though I have a separate test directory, it somehow messed with the original game. I tested a bunch of different games too and the problem is definitely in Dungeon Runners.

I will try out build 119. Hopefully, if this patch is stable, then all I need to do is wait for the public release.
