Ranger with a little mage build advice
#56169 - 04/28/08 10:49 AM |
Hi this my first post! My ranger, TyrainDreans, is nearing level 20 and I want to take it in a new direction, I was hoping with all the open ended-ness of the class system I could do a Ranger with mage build...I was hoping something like 60% Ranger 40% Mage...more Ranger than mage...all my stat points are in dex right now and i was wondering if i should respec and add some INT and start to work on upgrading my mage skills I have aquired. Any spells i should have and any advice on how to create a successful Ranger/Mage would be appreciated! |

Poison Rangers could possibly be considered to be Mage-Ranger Hybrids that are more Ranger than Mage. |

I think a good poison-ranger has a Attack Rating of 100 x Your Level, and the rest on Int. (THINK) -------------------- May The Rainbows Drop As Cows From The Sky HDoL.eu - Horrific Domain of Legend - A Dungeon Runners Fansite |

If you really want to try this hybrid you're going to want a particular ranger rb wep, pretty easy to get, if I had one for your level i'd just give it to ya lol. Vis'kars Bilespitter, full Int bow with good poison bonus. If you can find vis'kars, find a good int, int/agil, or int/end bow or gun, added poison is a plus. IMO for this build you should stat 50/50 agil/end. Get int from gear(this way you can change with out respecing if you don't have the cash to do it.). Alot of the bone and splint armor pieces have int a poison bonuses. If you can get your hands on one, get the Mystical Green Glowstick on a String rb, its full agil, with total mana and poison bonus. For rings. You might want to go for some mage rings with full int or int/end bonuses, and + to fire damage. Fire is going to be the main mage skill you're going to want to use, first of all you've got a great aoe with fire ring, and fire bolt has the longest range(but I really dont see the need, it'd just be crippled. Ice bonus isn't really needed but until rangers get the ice shot, you can use ice bolt for a speed debuff. For ranger skills use gaseous blast and poison shot/noxious shot. Spirit of the hare comes in hand, same goes for heal self not other(saves pots between mobs or in a pinch if you can get away). Using both aoe skills will push a good bit of damage to the grouped mobs and you can blow them away with your bow and poison shot. If you've got room for it, you can use trigger finger frenzy, but not all that useful for the build, poison shots and aoes can take up most of the time of the duration and renders it ineffective. For passives "Trigger Happy" of coarse if you want your bow to be anywhere near fast, but the problem is it reduces your magic damage . Using "mental prowess" would even things out ther(sort of) so you may not want to use either lol. SO, probably just use "Gym Freak" for the good health bonus, Possibly "Average BMI", "Banner of Foolish Bravery" for fighting banshees. And switch out the "Trigger Happy" and "Mental Prowess" depending on what you are fighting and whats working the best. Really, just play around with the passives see what works best for you and your play style. And if you want to see an extremely effective PvE ranger check out Mayah(linked below). Running Malaise and Embercore I use only 1 or 2 potions per instance(per level) sometimes none at all for several levels, depending on how well I keep up with buffing bill, and weather or not myself or bill brings in another mob or 2. But its not a great pvp build, especially now that i've leveled her far out of my gear levels.Only downside i've had at all with her current build, and gets more apparent as i get further from gear levels, is Demonic Crypts, I need bill to take the brunt of the damage, i've got good health, but i've sacrificed agil and high dps(which wouldn't actually be a whole hell of a lot higher if i had her full agil. But Crypts is really close quarters and sometimes myself or bill attracts the attention of 2 or 3 mobs, and they aren't smallish weak mobs like malaise. So about 50% of the time, I can't keep Bill buffed or he dies before cooldown on snowglobe finishes, and I get swarmed (even more than I already am) and have to spam a few pots to stay alive, but at the most I use 10 pots in one instance, and I have level 1s for cheap pots so its not that big of a deal(just time consuming lol) If you have any questions feel free to ask. |

In Ranger/Mage, do you mean a ranger with high Mana or a ranger with mage skills? -------------------- No one wrote the above. http://threeplanetssoftware.com/software/dr/profile.php?character=crackersd http://threeplanetssoftware.com/software/dr/profile.php?character=crackerst |
