Dmg per sec to weapon VS Dmg per sec to poison
#55952 - 04/25/08 09:30 AM |
Hm... I'm coming along great with my poison-ranger but as the items starts to get more and more important with the higher levels, I start to think of, and wonder, what the difference actaully is from: Poison Damage per second to Weapon Attack and Damage per Second to Poison Attacks The second one shows as Poison Bonus in my char-window. But if, let's say, I had two armours with +45 with each of these two; Wich would be the better one as a poison ranger? Is the outcome the same, or is one of them better to have than the other? When speaking in terms of Poison Arrow and Noxious Shot that is. It's Ekenskog I'm trying to make something of right now. -------------------- May The Rainbows Drop As Cows From The Sky HDoL.eu - Horrific Domain of Legend - A Dungeon Runners Fansite |

Hmm, most of your equipment is +poison damage, which enhances damage beyond your INT bonuses. For you, +poison damage is probably the way to go. If you had low INT and most +poison DPS gear, I'd say you'd get more damage from +poison DPS. This is a relatively tough comparison - the only skill you have that could reliably use +poison damage is Gaseous Blast, which only requires a resist check. Both Poison Shot and Noxious Shot require you to actually hit the mob first, then a resist check after that. |

The first does just what it says, adds poison damage to weapon attack, thats it, no bonus to other poison skills. The second adds damage to all poison attacks, noxious and poison shot, gaseous blast etc. However it will also add to the first. So if you have something with +poison damage to weapon attack so you are doing poison damage along with your normal damage, you can use another item with +to poison damage per second, and it will increase the damage caused by said poison damage bonus to weapon. Toxic talent works this way as well. So best way to use them, is to get 1 thing with +poison damage to weapon, and as much + to poison damage as possible since that will add to the weapon poison damage, and skills poison damage. Understand? |

I'm pretty sure that's not correct, Magic Ninja. Toxic Talent, like the mage equivalents for Shadow, Fire and Ice, only affects INT-based skills. As such, Toxic Talent affects Noxious Shot, Poison Shot and Gaseous Blast, but it doesn't affect +poison DPS to a weapon. Likewise, +poison damage only affects the INT-based skills, not +poison weapon DPS. Simply put, + elemental DPS to a weapon is treated separately than + elemental damage bonuses. |

Its all poison damage, but its pretty hard to actually see, because of the varying damage ammouts(ie. 100-300 damage over 3 seconds) on top of that when you're slamming mobs or a pvp opponent your weapon damage and elemental effects over lap and its hard to see whats actually being done, even more so when you have multiple effects going on(ie Devine from one thing and shadow from another). It doesn't effect JUST the int based skills. |

I don't thinks so. Guess we'll have to get a dev to weigh in on it. I'd love to be wrong on this one:) |

Hahaha, such a simple question actually. Well, I just go with the flow and see what happens. -------------------- May The Rainbows Drop As Cows From The Sky HDoL.eu - Horrific Domain of Legend - A Dungeon Runners Fansite |

I think that poison dmg per wep attack is poison dmg added to a regular shot. Dmg per sec to poison attacks would be added to your skill attack. I think so because Crackerst is a warrior and some of his wep adds shadow dmg to his wep attack. http://threeplanetssoftware.com/software/dr/profile.php?character=crackerst Look at the sword. -------------------- No one wrote the above. http://threeplanetssoftware.com/software/dr/profile.php?character=crackersd http://threeplanetssoftware.com/software/dr/profile.php?character=crackerst Edited by No_one (04/26/08 10:21 AM) |

/*Edit*/ I chatted with Anson regarding this and he initially confirmed what I thought happened, but he just reviewed id. Read his post after this one. MagicNinja was proven right and I was proven wrong! Thanks for digging into it Anson, so we could get the real answer! Edited by Ripper_McGee (04/28/08 05:11 PM) |

...and I was wrong. The damage bonus code isn't stuff I've worked with, so it took some time to track it down, but LegendRunner was very insistent about the way he thought it worked. Anyway, here's how it actually works: if a weapon does elemental damage, that bonus is adjusted by any percent modifiers active on the character (like "+3% Damage per Second to Fire Attacks"), and then it is finally boosted by any generic elemental bonuses ("+10 Damage per Second to Fire Attacks"). This is magical damage that is only applied when the weapon attack hits, and even if the weapon hits it can be resisted like any other magical damage (like damage from Fire Bolts). I apologize for spreading confusion on this point, but there was some miscommunication internally regarding this. I hope this clarifies the whole thing once and for all... |
