% steal for mages?
#55277 - 04/19/08 11:15 PM

Hey guys, i have a question.
Those gears that have +x%mana/health steal, the % is for melee damage, ranged damage, weapon damage or magic damage.
I think that u steal only when you do weapon damage, if that's true, the mage cant use steal weapons? could anyone explain to me plz?

Stealing requires weapon to actually hit the enemy. For example, if you have a wand with 5% Mana Steal, then you must hit the enemy. Once you hit the enemy, 5% of the damage the hit did will go into your mana pool. The problem for mages is that their agility and strength are so low that in the unlikely event they did actually strike an enemy with their weapon, the damage would be so low that the percent of mana or health stolen would be meaningless.

In other words, % mana or % health steal are completely useless for most pure mages....

Boy, is that good to know. I was wondering how mana steal worked and that certainly clarifies it. So ... useful for Rangers and Fighters, not so good for Mages. Glad I replaced my mana steal ammy with one with real + mana.

Oh boy, just imagine it: A lvl 100 mage, who can outdamage almost everybody out there btw, could use mana steal items to replenish his mana pool with casting spells.
In combination with a lvl6 BSoL he would not even play in a god mode now, he would also be like a god almost invincible. Man, I could hear'em all crying

But not by much and this wouldn't make any difference at all when you could use mana steal items as a mage.

The fact is you couldn't, so that's a moot point. However, Spontaneous Regeneration is having it's cooldown lowered to 80. That might make it much more useful in PvP, especially for Mages. Too bad you can't use it during combat anymore.

On the other hand, I think the effects of mana and health steal, along with reflection effects, are severely dampened in PvP.

Wait, I'm confused. I thought it was +5% chance of mana steal not +5% for mana each time you hit.

They're not, thankfully.

Definately not ... its a percent of total damage dealt with each hit. Why JoeB never runs out of mana even with as little as I have.

Damage reflection at least I know is severely nerfed. I don't know about steals.

Yes reflection is nerfed, i think to about 10% of what it would normally be, but it may be less. However the mana steal isn't effected at all, and i'm glad, i couldn't always effectively fight mages and rangers with out my little bit of mana steal so i can actually use my skills for pvp.
