Fighter Build Opinions - Con. Criticism Plz...
#54521 - 04/13/08 09:24 PM

-=Backstory=-

Ever since my... brother... *grits teeth* found the paper with my account details and deleted Daramus (Don't worry, I changed my details and won't write em down again), I've been searching for the perfect fighter build in this build and I think I'm on to something. I've thought it out thouroughly and I need your help deciding whether or not to go for it.

-=Stats=-

I'm going to be using gear that boosts endurance and strength such as Amethyst, Sunstone, and others. The majority of my strength will be from my pure str stat. The agi I need to survive will come from my jewelry. I'm not going to bother much with intellect, as my skills for the most part aren't about massive damage in a single blow (Ex. Soul Rend/Holy Roller). The mana I need will come from mana steal.

-=Skills=-

Aside from the usual 3 passive combo (GF, BMI, WoTR)my skilla aren't about racking up massive damage in a single blow but rather getting the largest DPS percentage possible. For that, Swivel Arm is a must have. I also want to be able to hit hard and accurately without giving the enemy time to react, so Mad Melee Mastery, Unnerving Shout and Acidic Blight are needed. And, so that I don't get owned by elemental bosses such as Abbadon, Snow Chief, and others, I'll use a ward/resistance combo.

-=Reason=-

I've always liked a good clean fight; none of those fancy fireballs or those divine skills. I WANT A BRAWL! So naturally a DPS fighter build attracted me. It holds up to my ideals and is incredibly powerful. To see my inspiration, check out this guy.

-=Closing=-

It is imperative that I know how good this build may be before I go all the way to level 25 or so and find out I suck terribly. So please, leave me with your thoughts. I don't care whether or not they are bad, it'll allow me to seek out another build.

Are you aiming to make this a PvE character only, or a character that is competent in PvE and PvP?

Yes. It will be able to do both of them if I can get the right RBs. My choice weapons will be dual Skullioses which can hit quite high.

A build like you are talking is about the Normal Build for a fighter More Mellee then anything else. While you may not be able to take out mobs in one hit like some fighters do you will deffinetly wear them down. A build liek this is great for killing bosses because of the high endurance and Deffense rating you can really take a blow.

Personaly I have always wanted a more STR build going for minimal Agi and Endurance enough to keep me standing but not much more then that. This type of build works well for me because i want the fight over with quickly if it takes me 3 extra pots thats ok in my book.

If you are aiming for a build that can also work in PvP, then abstaining from Divine Skills is a ticket to failure: simply because you won't be using Holy Roller, and that is probably the most important skill in a Fighter's arsenal in PvP. Not a problem of course, you could just slap it on when the bloodlust takes you.

The character you had there is obviously not meant to be a PvP character. I assume that you are looking mainly at the stat distribution? Well, IMO a Fighter in PvP requires lots of Endurance and enough Strength to get going, instead of the other way around. But it is a matter of opinion: there are many Fighters that do well in PvP with a "berserker" like build, although (again, IMO) not as good as END builds.

Any advice I can give is PvP related, since in PvE there really is nothing specific one must adhere to, apart from the basics.

You may be on to something... Very well, when I hit 20 I'll get Holy Roller and put it on L. Click.

o.O got confused.....

it would help if you linked your toon for us to check out

but sucks is a fairly common non-pvp build... if you check bogey's stats out except for the fact that i'm using a gavel instead of 2 1hr's they are similar to an extent.. i have some different things on my skill bar.

if you wanna see what 2 matched skullies change mine to let me know and i can switch the gavel otu for them.

If you want to have a good pvp build look at Trigvar(link below) I don't lose very often and mostly it depends on who/what i'm fighting. I have gear to switch for fighting different classes, and the gear you see there may not reflect a pvp build(if i'm using the unique scale plate and wake of the devastator, i'm set up for farming low level bosses).

Despite what others may say, agil is the most important stat for a fighter in pvp and even pve, if you can't hit your opponant you wont do well, its all about balance, and respecs and different gear are how you achieve that balance for different scenarios. But the ammount you need depends on who/what class you are fighting and what equip they may be wearing. For example, if you are fighting a mage, high str and agil will do you little good as you dont need very high atk rating to hit a mage in mage armor, but you do need alot of endurance to take that damage from their spells, resists will lessen the damage a bit more as well. Since str only adds 1.5 damage per point in the long run in doesn't add up to much so.

All in all, pve and pvp are to completely different animals, what works for one, may not work for the other. If you play pve alot, from lvl 1 up to 50(maybe lower maybe higher it depends on the person), you may not even realize that you're out of balance and aren't doing as well as you can. I did it my self when i started, putting most of my stat points into str and using weps with str bunuses, along with other damage bonuses i could achieve around 3.5 times the base damage of these weps, but i missed more than hit. Best advise I can give you is to get some gear together and set respec and play around with it as much as you can in the alloted time. If you aren't missing much with your current gear, then you can change gear or respec some of those agility points to end or str. That respec button is about the best thing ever in any rpg, because it can be very hard to fix a crappy build. Like i put some points into int at first so i had enough mana for skills, but later i didn't need them at all.

So this may be somewhat incomplete, if you have any questions post here, or if you want a more complete rundown on building for pvp or pve i can help, just send me a private message, here or in game(if in game, dont get offended if i tell you i'm not going to explain or go into detail on anything while there, it could take hours i have a lot to say.)

My new guy, Oord, is doing very well. I decided to go with a fast 2her instead of dual 1hs but overall I'm very successful. I'm pwning all bosses and enemies who stand in my way. The build is a major success. If you want to see him, go to : http://threeplanetssoftware.com/software/dr/profile.php?character=Oord
