Advice on switching fighter to ranger
#54293 - 04/12/08 02:50 PM

I have been a Fighter for all 31 levels. I am getting bored of the tanking duties and low damage, so deciding to try out a ranger build.

Just looking for some advice on how where to re-specc my points into and such. I know I can find all this by searching through posts, but I would rather start a discussion on it so I can ask questions.

Thanx.

The ability to respec is nice, but keep in mind that you get three character slots per account. My advice is for you to start a new character, using an empty slot, and play that new character as a ranger. Why? Because there are many ranger builds and they all depend very heavily upon the gear you find and equip. The problem with respecs is that you have to farm the gear first in order to respec or else you be even unhappier. If you start a ranger from scratch, you will be able to learn the "class", identify your favorite builds and play styles, etc...

I concur...

I had a very "bad" respec experience after chunk 2 with my first very serious character (out of the many like ripper) CrushNBurn on world 4. I was pure shadow mage till level 68 when I decided to try outa hybrid fighter/mage with divine+shadow. Respec'd, sold my equipment to finance skills (had some new equipment in bank, but not all...) and then bought/farmed for other equipment. Went broke doing so, and WORSE, didn't know "how" to play a fighter well and did miserably.....so I ended up losing interest and the ability to play well since I never knew the fighter "style" and had to euthanize him...::sniff::

Then Aerator came along with Swiper. I would definitely suggest what ripper said and build a completely new char to "feel" out the build. A lot of 100's change out and respec, but they usually have the bankroll and "extra" stuff to do so or can farm and plan for a time before doing it, and if it sucks (lol) they can just pay to simply respec back and reequip. Not so easy for the "lower-class" as it would seem.

Thanx for all the advice. Guess I will just roll a new toon in a spare slot instead. I agree on needing to learn "how to play the character".

thanx.
