Bill or Bait?
#53060 - 04/03/08 06:30 PM

I'm having problems deciding whether or not to use Chill Bill or Monster Bait. Chill Bill takes up 3 skill slots for best results but monster bait only takes 2 slots (extra crispy). Using Chill Bill, gives me the advantage to attack a few amounts of monsters and kill them without using any potions. But Monster Bait allows me to attack hordes of monster (with 3rd slot as noxious gas) and kill them without using any potions at all.

So which should I use if I am going to run HDoL? Mut. Maise?

I've been using them both along with On The Rocks and GB for AOE. OTR also seems to work well as an aggro holder even without bait. Big groups I lead with MB, let Bill run in to aggro the melees and hit OTR. everyone gets a debuff, if I'm not 3/4 of the way throught the group by then or if there is more than one hero/champ i'll hit TFF and blow everything away. This has been working well for me for about 4 levels after switching from poison ranger to ice druid. This is mostly for leveling in the normal dungeons. I did give old Queenie a shot with this build and it didn't work too well. I'll have to try Abbadon too, just haven't gotten my courage up yet...I did have to bump up my INT with some gear, this is a heavy mana use casting build.

Chill Bill does not need to take up three skill slots. You can: drop Summon Snowman, provided that you can keep him alive with just Snow Globe (Snow Globe is a full health heal for Bill). You may also drop Nippy Twigs if you just want to use Bill as an aggro holder and not a damage dealer.

On the other hand, I find that Chill Bill is superior to Monster Bait in almost every way. Provided that you can orientate Bill correctly, Bill can potentially hold every monster of a mob group and allowing you to blast them from a distance. Plus, Bill's HP is actually reasonably high: with a bit of skill (in positioning Bill), you can use him for this purpose just as well as you can with Monster Bait. Personally, assuming that the difficulty level is not too high, I can ditch Summon Snowman and keep Bill alive on Snow Globe alone, and needing to drink nothing but mana potions (spamming spells is mana draining work, after all).

if you have money to waste buy both and monster bait side skill.im using both but chill bill dies fast anyway so im not upgrading it anymore...monster bait can take them just long enough to pwn all.chill bill is just side blocker...if any of them pass.because i got only 100k now because chill bill gonna buy new summons only if they do something special(picking money for example).if they gonna be like snowman i will forget summons exist

Tander, the higher the level you get the better chill bill gets, I wouldn't give up on him yet. If you are a fairly low level still, I would not concentrate my money on him, until I had the other skills I wanted first. After plenty of farming every couple levels or so, you'll end up with plenty of gold for anything, even bill. Just my opinion.

I find Bill useless because he usually dies when I'm fighting 3 mobs of monsters (because Bill is an idiot and runs from fear). But he can knock down monsters and lasts longer. Hmmmmm.... hard choice.

idk mine is around lvl 50 and no way to kill any mob alone..even weakest ones.just to hurt them little.i heard those buffs not helping much so i dont use them...i just summon him and bait and let them block till i pwn mobs very quick.anyway im AoE mage 55 so lot of mobs are not any problem for me...so chill is just for short blocking period nothing else about his killing. his dmg is just too low.i hope other summons gonna do some dmg and be able to really help

Maybe Bill is too weak to be used at lower levels, I don't know. At my level at least, and from what I've heard, at level 100; Bill is quite useful, and if it is a choice between Bait or Bill, many prefer Bill.

Any official information on those subjects can (and is) found in the Announcements forum. If you've already read that, then you'll just have to be patient unless you want speculation.

Here's my [completely baseless] specualtion about the next summons:

A pudgy, humanoid skunk named "Stink Floyd" will inflict poison damage through glands in his anus.

ROFL! You are on a roll tonight Mess! I would love to see this summon, but perhaps they have to maintain balance since there is already a "wee-man" coming to pick up our gold for us soon? lol... You should put this in the summons suggestion thread that a few of us got into a short while back. It's good.

Okay, well back to the point...

I would suggest using Monster Bait, no matter whether you're a mage or a ranger. Why?

Like Necrophilius (or whoever) said, Bill doesn't necessarilly have to take up three skill slots to be effective. The spell thingy which turns him into a block of ice works fine.

However, when I was playing my GF's mage, I summoned Bill, and he never, ever, not once engaged the creeps in combat on his own, even when I was standing 2 metres from them.

Further more, he sometimes just runs away when battle starts. Seriously, he wasn't hit by fear, due to the mob's lack of fear-casting creatures, he simply turned around and ran.

Casting that Ice Block spell might be a problem, since Bill can get quite inpredictible and stand in a place that doesn't really warrant using that skill on him, like behind your character while the creeps attack from the front.

Bill's fighting skills certainly don't give you the edge to overcome enemies, he's simply a walking Monster Bait, just here to play the role of a decoy/meat shield.

I would suggest Monster Bait, since it is a chunk of pure, immobile HP ready to be positioned wherever you like, drawing creeps to itself and buying you enough time to pick them off from a distance.

If you just rush into the fray like you normally do, then you won't be able to get Bill to do much. However, if you run in, attract the mob's attention and quickly run behind Bill, Bill will notice the advancing mobs and engage them, and about 50% of the mobs at the very least will focus on Bill and not you. Actually, it is usually 100%, but once you start attacking the mobs begin to shift their attention to you instead; but in general only 50% of the mobs ended up attacking you.

It works everytime for me. And I hardly ever need health potions.

okay...whatever...bye bye then..goodbye now...don't know what you've said recently and don't care. Go complain in some other free game about what you're NOT getting since you're NOT a member and have NOTHING to complain about.

I get the sense that you complain alot about government and the president, but don't vote either...or whatever it is you do in whatever country you're from.

Oh yeah forgot all these:

...Just to add soemthing to the actual topic: as a ranger, I think extra crispy bait is perfect. You lay it out where you want it, and you can send a concentrated barrage at the gathered and hungry throng. I don't want my bait running around and pulling my targets around a corner, etc.

On the other hand, as long as Bill doesn't get melted, you don't have to resummon. So he can help with every mob- not always the case with turkey leg (depending on how fast you kill the mob).

In summation: bait for rangers and bill for mages, is my opinion.

Bill doesn't run around if he is snugly sandwiched in a horde of mobs, which should be the case if you positioned him right (easy to do). In case he is taking too much damage too fast, Snow Globe him... heals him right back up to full. Of course, Bait is easier to control and slightly more reliable, plus better mob holding power; so it is a matter of preference really.

My Conclusions:
Use Bill in HDOL. Use bait in normal dungeons. (Bill dies easily in dungeons where monsters can cause fear)

I would havve to say that is the silliest most bassackwards things I have ever read. Are you sure that you dont have that backwards.

In a Normal dungeon Bill will die less easy since the mobs are no wheres near as hard as in Hdol. In Hdol having a bill running around where he has a fairly good chance of agroing other mobs could not only get bill killed but you in the proccess.

So if you change that statement the other way around ill agree bill when you just want a little help like in normal dungeons and Bait when in a Hdol Boss Situation where you want it in a perfect spot and dont want any undue atention I can see.

I agree with Dark about HDoL. Regarding normal dungeons, not every dungeon has fear inducing monsters. If I am not mistaken, only Banshees can cast Fear.

Heres a good idea. Bill is weak without Snowglobe and without Nippy Twigs, but with those hes actually stronger than you would think. On insane he does last a while when i use him and sometimes while im attaching one guy, hes on my side attacking and killing off the weaker guys. for a ranger i would agree that you should use him because he is good for bait and damage. He can also knock them down and slow them down and give them ice damage. the snowglobe will increase his HP and his def at the same time.

even without Nippy twigs i like bill better then bait because it costs way less mana because if you use snow globe he will stay alive and if you summoned him you can replace the chill bill spell for nippy twigs and on this way it only uses 2 slots just like bait

Yes, in regard to normal Dungeon Running, using Bill at optimum performance does not need to take up more Skill Slots than Bait does.
