fighers, do you ever think of adding int?
#51863 - 03/21/08 09:11 PM |
so, i notice that on my fighter char that i find myself relying on two particular skills when it comes to dealing damage - holy roller and soul rend. i know that a lot of other fighers use these skills aswell, because most fighters i see ingame, of any level, are usually white paladins (which as far as i know is because of these divine damage skills being equipped). so, the thing is, theres such a large amount of fighters (myself included) that have really low int stats. it doesnt seem uncommon for fighters to have just 1 int and rely on +mana gear, or some might have the 5 int sitting there. now im sure there are fighters out there that use maybe a few +int gears. so im just wondering what kind of effect small amounts of int have on the divine damage of soul rend and holy roller, and for those fighters with the 1 int or 5 int, have you ever thought of getting some more int somehow, to get more from those skills? thanks. |

To me My int isnt a big deal as long as its enough to cast all my buffs in one go. What i really care about is having some Mana Steal weps or armor. This makes a huge difference in my damage and in my pot usage. |

There was a build dubbed the "Divinadin" or something which was an INT based Fighter using Divine Skills. It seemed to work relatively well. |

That's just the beauty of DR---everything is relative...but the Divineadin is nothing more than a fighter-mage hybrid whose primary DMG is based, of course, in Divine DMG. Note however, that this fighter's INT doesn't determine the total Divine DMG, it's his EQP. I've talked to an INT based fighter once, and basically, in the INT based warrior, STR and INT just swapped places, so now the build goes AGI-END-INT. I play a plain, well-balanced fighter myself, good for soloing and quick kills, and the only real mana drainer is Cleave combined with the, uhhhhhh, "the cleave augmentation skil" ( ).Edited by LoricaSegmenta (03/22/08 08:09 AM) |

That would be Awesome Cleavage Int adds to the damage of soul rend and holy roller ... but the loss of damage by decreasing your str doesnt make it worth boosting your INT to far. My opinion of course. -------------------- JoeB - Level 100 - Back to a Fighter where he belongs SirOldBottom - Level 49 - Ice Mage Mearlin - Level 29 - Mage Dungeon Runners Map Build 0.110 |

IMO, mana steal (deinitely) and/or +str/+int; +agi/+int gear can be used depending on whats available to you and what kind of fighter youre trying to build. A lot of high level fighters rely on mana steal for their mana needs (myself included, slthough not "high level" but the same idea nonetheless). I always try to keep at minimum 2% mana steal in gear (SOME at least) and I find, at level 45 using Cleavage/Awesome cleavage, Rend, Roller, and stomp sometimes with other skills, I still use mana pots, but when I have around 4-5% mana steal and am not consistently mobbed, that I rarely need to use pots much. SO, if you can't find man steal gear, then I would otherwise recommend a "sprinkling" of +str/+int or +agi/+int gear if you are having mana troubles. Also stay away from "high cost" spells that rely on int for efficient dmg output, no matter how tempting - like ROF, GB, etc. and concentrate on your typical "fighter" build until you get a better feel and balance for gear and stats. |

Oh, well I guess GB would be a possible hybrid-ish option then. I didn't realize its cost was so low at higher levels. I was thinking mostly along the lines of how intellect directly relates to dmg output of spells besides actual mana cost and GB's dmg shouldn't be equal or as effective versus something like Awesome Cleavage's AOE effect - although I use AC and you use GB and we both seem to be fairly effective. Guess you just have to find a balance in that case, and that it's not generally as effective to use the "main" mage AOE's with a fighter with low or even moderate int, since it would cause a lack in the other important stats for melee, or you'd be spread too thin. So, edit "ROF or GB" to be "ROF or Shadow Lightning", lol. ![]() |

well for someone who read the post, you sure missed the point completely didnt you. and i didnt come here to get irrelevant replies, or to be condescended by some smart alec that thinks they know what my post was about better than i do. so you dont have to worry about going out of your way to not respond to my threads in the future, because im just not going to bother. |

You did not come here for condescending replies, but you are being "snippy" yourself. If your royal highness is not getting the answers that you wish or think some one is missing your point, why not pull attention back to what you wanted to know. Perhaps you did not explain it well enough for some, who knows. At any rate, they were trying to help and your attitude is not necessary. In regards to your original post. I have not read anything that indicates how much if any at all that intelligence can increases the damage of fighter skills. If that is indeed the case, then the only use intellect would have for a fighter would be for more mana, thus more casts (without spamming pots). If that is the case, then all replies you received were valid. Next time, perhaps you should calm down and try to get back to what you wanted to know rather than complaining. -------------------- Victims... Aren't we all. |

Quote: why wouldnt i be, after reading nunjas post? Quote: i did, i asked why people were posting about things i was not asking about. good call on the "royal highness" thing too, the fact that i dont like being patronized, or that people arent reading my post properly but feel the need to prattle on about irrelevant rubbish, must mean i think very highly of myself, right? Quote: no. my post is very clear that i am asking about using int to increase damage output of specific skills. the ONLY mention of mana in the post, wasnt even the focus of the post but merely a comment in passing. i mean, which do you think is going to be the point of the post, one word about something that isnt discussed at all in the post, or what is being discussed in the post and being mentioned numerous times? its not my fault if people dont have common sense or dont understand posts properly before posting. even if my post wasnt clear to someone, no one actually said it wasnt clear did they? or ask for clarification? i dont see that anywhere. Quote: things looked fine until nunja arrived, perhaps you should be telling him that? but i suppose you wouldnt look like a hero if you had a go at him instead of me, right? Quote: some skills it does, namely the divine damage skills which i named 2 of in my post, and theres also that stomp skill. the divine damage of those skills increases when you have more int. Quote: but thats not the case, int has more uses for a fighter than just more mana. for a lot of fighters sure, it is all they use int for, but i am quite clearly asking about int being used for increasing damage of certain skills, am i not? so no, all the posts arent valid. Quote: no. |

- His post was not very condescending at all; I have seen and written much worse. Furthermore, why would your actions have to bleed from others? - Yes, you asked why no one was replying to your particular question, but you did not bother to re-emphasize the question. Further more, their "prattling" was relevant in one regard as to how intelligence effects fighters. - People are prone to different interpretations. It was clear enough to them, apparently to reply in regards to mana. Perhaps they missed your other point or it was not clear to them. If it were not clear in that they missed your point, how would they know to tell you as much? -The hero? I ma not sure what you are implying with this one. I am no ones hero; I merely thought you were out of line with your hypocritical posting. As for "having a go" at some one else... I would wager that I am intelligent enough to debate with anyone in this forum, and will do so, if I see a point to debate. I am not picking on you, and if you take it as such, then that is your own problem. - Ah, well, then I have learned a bit, if that is indeed the case. As I said, I have not read it anywhere. Well, your last comment says it all. You want others to perfectly understand you with no qualms. If they do misunderstand then you want to complain but not reiterate your post. Wow, that is fantastic. *sarcasm* -------------------- Victims... Aren't we all. |

I've grouped with plenty of other fighters, and it's pretty rare for them to use more than the occasional buff. I'm a big fan of using skills, tho. For awhile, I'd even raised my int to more than 60. After getting a number of str/int items, tho, I respec'd it back to 40. With my mods, I can cycle through my skills once or twice, with multiple cleaves before having to suck down mana. I figure if I'm carrying and using more mana pots than health, my balance isn't set right. Right now the pots are roughly 65/35 health/mana, which I think is perfect. (Although as of a few minutes ago, I picked up a new rb weapon that's doing the job a lot better/faster. I may be cutting back on some of the skills... if the ratio drops to 75/25, I 'll respec to lower the int.) -------------------- -- Tingmakpuk -- |

DisplayName, You have a lot to learn about "getting help" on a forum. You asked a question that has more than just a simple yes or no answer. A number of people attempted to answer that question - expounding on it along the way (which is how you get information here.) You then became unnecessarily argumentative and critical. That's when I made my post. Your post that I replied to was combative and accusatory, claiming people were mindlessly replying to the (misspelled, btw) topic and not the post itself. That was uncalled for and petulant. THAT IS WHY (and when) I said what I did. Your claim that "things looked fine until nunja arrived" is absolute drivel since the truth is, things looked fine until you saw fit to state that people were essentially missing the point of your original post. You also decided to take a jab at those who did not give you the answer you wanted. It's almost as if you started a thread about diesel engines versus conventional gas and got perturbed when it turned into a discussion about cars! You can do one of two things now: Admit that you overreacted and be more open to input from people who are SUBSTANTIALLY more experienced than you, in which case you will be answered and treated with respect. Continue with your little tantrum and ensure that you will be added to a number of people's ignore lists. -------------------- Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. - Arthur C. Yes, well...back to the topic for a while. In my opinion, adding INT to a class whole primary DMG dealing is STR is useless. As one of the elemental DMG types, Divine does benefit from INT. But not that much to completely replace STR. Yes, you do get more mana, which is probably the only use warriors have from INT, hence why some warrior weapons have INT bonuses, such as the Fragalot, My Pretty Puncturer and things labeled with "Nutria" (+STR +INT). If you really think it's worth building an INT warrior, check out the Divineadin build. I would personally like to see more physical warrior skills whose power is determined by the total STR one has. |

So your goal is to create a pure fighter? That is quite simple, as I know three basic set-ups for pure fighters (if there are more, I'd like to know). STR oriented build-well, this is easy to guesss, heh heh, just focus on STR, your play-stlye here is "kill them before they kill you", I'd suggest getting weapon speed buffs, using one-handers, and knockbacks/downs since you won't have a lot of HP Tankish Fighter- well here, you're just basically a punch bag which deals DMG, use two-handers to make up for your lower DMG and also get some skills to balance it out some more, like Retribution, just make sure you don't put EVERYTHING into END you should also concentrate on AGI for safer hits, playstyle here is "outlasting". You might want to use crystaline here for it's END bonuses and higher DEF rating. Well-balanced fighter- over here you just basically balance out your STR-AGI-END it's pretty easy to play. I play one myself, just use a mixture of plain fighter skills and Divine. I recommend getting plate if you'll be distributing CPs to all three stats equally. |
