Dissconnecting EVERY time.
#51806 - 03/21/08 12:01 PM |
Hello. i recently became a paying member. but i only have one problem and its just a bad problem for me. it doesnt matter what i do every single time i start to play i get about 10-30-40 minutes into the game and i get disconnected every time then must log in all over again. this is very annoying please HELP! i do not have this problem or ever had it for any other game. and i had DR installed a few months ago and it worked just fine. i am letting it through my fire wall an everything. i always have just gave up with nc support. they have had me DL and install countless programs some of which has NEVER helped me. so can someone here please give me a hand? |

This saddens me. Especially the part where our support group isn't able to help you. Let me ask some questions and see what I can find out: Do you have much lag while you're playing before disconnect? What Country / State are you located in? I've heard similar complaints from others... I wonder if there are issues on some of our network circuits that could cause this problem for many. Boo! steve |

Also you need to tell Steve if your using a wireless or a line. I sometimes get these random disconnectiong but it's just my wirelss. After a few sec, it goes back to normal. -------------------- http://threeplanetssoftware.com/software/dr/Crackersd Like my Halo avatar, I'm red, you're blue. |

@ Zedrion I would also send Steve a private message with the answers to the following questions: What version of Windows are you using Who is your ISP (Internet Service Provider) What Security Software application are you using Did you install the DR Client using the defaults, or customize it and if you changed from the defaults what were the changes made Just try and give him AS MUCH information as you can because the more he knows about the computer you are using and your service provider in addition to the other information, it will increase your chances of them resolving this for you... -------------------- "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" - Cthulhu fhtagn: 47°9′S, 126°43′W Character Stats |

Well, i have NEVER had any lag in DR! at all! and i live in the US in KY. i use sygate personal firewall as my firewall, i got it set to let it through like all my other games. i have never had a problem with it. and my Anti Virus program is AVG. "free version" bout the best in my opinion. but yeah about the support from NC not saying anything about the people i spoke with they were Top Notch. very kind. but cant get my problem resolved. i am hoping you guys can help me a bit. BTW props go's to Crickette. i couldnt get my forum account here working and whatever she done helped me. i had to contact her through the Exteel forum. TY Crickette. I use windows XP Home. ISP provider is mediacom. Sygate personal firewall and AVG. i just let it install from default. "don't like to customize an installation" if don't have to. And i never use a wireless connection. got a RCA Modem from mediacom. Also i have try'd multiple re-installs and it doesn't help. And Steve. plz send me a PM here with all of the questions you may have and i will send you a reply back. thanks. Edited by Zedrion (03/21/08 04:26 PM) |

While I don't know what's causing your issue, I would very highly recommend you move away from Sygate. It was a fantastic free firewall, but hasn't been updated in years. Personally, I recommend Comodo, which is also free. |

What is the make/model od RCA modem that you have? And is Mediacom a Cable internet service provider or DSL? -------------------- "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" - Cthulhu fhtagn: 47°9′S, 126°43′W Character Stats |

1) You might briefly lose connectivity to the internet, too, but not know it, especially if you're reading content on a page without refreshing or navigating to a new page. If it's a brief loss, it would be back up before you ever noticed it. Unfortunately, when you're in a game and require a constant data stream to ensure connectivity, you might actually be disconnected. 2) Does your modem have the latest firmware? Qwest pulled a funny little trick on me earlier this year. One day the wireless on my router stopped working. Turns out a firmware upgrade was required, but I never got any prior notification. 3) Many modems have built in firewalls with different levels of security. Does yours and, if so, what level is it set to? |

Looks like Mediacom is a Cable Internet Company. http://www.mediacomcc.com/internet_online.html Some GREAT reading from the Mediacom Support forum on broadbandreports.com http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/mediacom http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/r19750242-IL-internet-speed-problems-plus-modem-resets http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/r19865743-MO-Connection-constantly-resets-under-stress- Something relevant regarding this type of issue from the World of Warcraft Forums might be just the thing: http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=3773364394&sid=1&pageNo=1 -------------------- "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" - Cthulhu fhtagn: 47°9′S, 126°43′W Character Stats |

Did you read the links I provided from broadbandreports.com and the WoW forums about playing online MMORPGS and your service disconnecting or not even being able to log in? Also, do you have either a Linksys or Netgear WiFi router attached to your home network? -------------------- "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" - Cthulhu fhtagn: 47°9′S, 126°43′W Character Stats |

Quote: The problem is that there's really no way to conclusively prove that. Tracking packet loss without a continuous stream of data is very difficult. Just out of curiosity, did Support have you download and use netinfotool_allOS_USEU.exe? From a troubleshooting perspective, I would consider looking at your modem/router logs to see if there are any glaring issues. |

I would find the version of the firmware on your modem and update it if it's older then 6 months to a year as this issue you are having *feels* like it's related to your Modem as those RCA Cable modems are a POS from what I have read since you originally posted about your problem... -------------------- "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" - Cthulhu fhtagn: 47°9′S, 126°43′W Character Stats |

This is mostly for Steven since he was concerned and I'm experiencng the same issue: Yes... The game "freezes" for a time before the disconnect. My internet provider is Cable but I have had the same issue on DSL. I have 3 computers, 2 direct connect to internet and one wireless. All three have experienced this. I have different firewalls for different computers and have also tried it prior to installing firewall. It still occurrs. I've come to accept "death by lag" as part of my gaming experience. ![]() I've experienced this with another game, Runescape, which is Java based. With Runescape I get the message "Disconnected, trying to reconnect" Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. There is a strong possiblity that this isn't related to the game at all although it would be good to get it figured out so support can help us with is. -------------------- Morganaise -- Mage TheRose -- Fighter |

Try playing it in windows mode with the wireless connection settings and task manager open. When the game freezes, look at both of them and you might get your answer. -------------------- http://threeplanetssoftware.com/software/dr/Crackersd Like my Halo avatar, I'm red, you're blue. |

If you want to see what is choking your system, get procexp from sysinternals. Run it and sort by CPU usage or Memory usage (2 ways) and watch for the culprit. It's what Task Manager wishes it was. Way more features than you can ever use. But it tells the whole story. It also allows you to kill just about anything easily. Well i never have any problems with CPU usage or anything for any game except this disconnecting in DR. it disconnects me then takes me to the log in screen. DR doesn't choke up the CPU either. |

Quote:BITS = Background Intelligent Transfer Service. The Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) helps you transfer large amounts of data without degrading network performance. It does this by transferring data in small chunks, utilizing unused bandwidth as it becomes available, and reassembling the data at the destination. This is what DR needs to "stream" the game to you and is an important part of the PlayNC Launcher. Ever notice how when you first start DR or Exteel that you see for about 5 seconds.... Testing BITS Service then the game launches? It is determining the best method of 'streaming' the game content to your client on you local computer. You're gonna want to make sure that the settings for your BITS Service match mine by comparing to the Screenshots below: http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/698/bits0yj5.jpg http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/8113/bits1qk9.jpg http://img186.imageshack.us/img186/2161/bits2lc2.jpg |

This problem was actually happening to me a while back when I tried to get into DR...it was never resolved, despite going through the issue with support and using each program as I was sent it. It's most likely not an issue with the internet dropping out in the middle, at least in my case and opinion, because I can stay logged into other various internet-enabled games indefinitely, such as Final Fantasy XI, World of Warcraft, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Halo 3...even NCSoft's own City of Heroes. Perhaps it is a fault with the BITS system, though... I think I may redownload DR and give my old account a spin again, see if the issue still occurs. BTW, my system specs... OS: Windows XP SP2 Processor AMD Athlon XP 1.1 Ghz (Old, I know) 768MB DDRram nVidia Geforce 6200 AGP card Onboard ethernet port, connected by CAT5 cable to a Buffalo WRT54G (I think that's the serial) with the latest firmware Used to use AVG when I last ran DR...now run Avast Antivirus. |

I dont think it is anything on my end guys. i play other nc games without a hitch and many other online games.anyways i am done with DR until this is fixed. a shame really this game kicks so much [censored] its pitiful. and to the above poster. support dealt me the same thing man. i wished they would get to this and fix it. i miss playing DR but no sense in paying for and playing a game i cant keep online for atleast an hour at a time without having to go through all those maps and stuff to get where i was. thanks for the help but i just dont think they are going to fix this. i know its not on my end. |

Quote: I respectfully disagree with the conclusion you seem to have come to. If you are now going to be close minded and not willing to work with us and do whatever it takes to resolve the issue (like listening to suggestions given no matter how far fetched or inaccurate they may seem to you) then we are at an impasse. If you really want this resolved like you say you do, then you can contact me by PM and I will work with you off line if necessary to resolve this, but until, when or if this happens, I'm done with this thread because you are. Why waste more energy in telling you "don't give up" and trying to have you look at things that could be relevant to resolving your issue if that very thing (giving up) is what you are now doing.... You say that NCsoft Support should "get to this and fix it" but it should be obvious to you that they don't have any idea what's causing this otherwise it would be addressed and resolved by now...dontcha think? I hope to hear from you off line and if I don't it was a privilege to try and assist you. |
